I hope that you acknowledge that he was being disingenuous with the truth, due to the documented evidence that supports Ms Kings assertions that environmental factors may contribute to crime.

After all the Sussex police acknowledge such an event.

He was playing the media and it seems that it got the herald writer Claire Trevett all excited as she wrote two articles on the same thing twice in one day.

But then that’s par for the course with the Herald these days, they will print any drivel that National spins regardless of the validity of their chest beating.

Was he questioned as to how he will ‘stamp out crime’? Not bloody likely, they’d hate to upset the marvelous National.

After all it was the same reporter who has a riveting story about Nats out mountain biking and John Key going for a run. Tough stuff, still makes the Nats look good.

Did you also do the figures that show each Jan is the peak time for crime in NZ, in particular serious violent crime.

If you people even bothered to read her statement, she suggested that among other things like the post christmas budget blues, returning to work etc etc that the long hot summer and the phase of the moon may be among contributing factors.

Power was either being completely disingenuous or ignorant of the facts of this topic, pretty shameful either way for someone who wishes to hold this office at the end of the year. If he was unaware that the Sussex Police (my correction sorry) had commissioned a report on the rise of crime during the full moon, which resulted in more staff rostered on during this time, then he is not very good at his job.

Also if he was unaware of the Nor-Wester effect in chch, he has possibly never talked to the staff at CHCH Police or Hospital or University, all of which acknowledge the negative effects.

All he was doing was chest beating and got away with it, because in this day and age we all know that the facts are superfluous to a good chest beat.

Still he can “stomp out crime”, which of course means I will be breaking a habit of a life time and voting for the party that can “stomp out crime”

Basically, the reason that crime and lower incomes tend to be correlated, is that the same people with screwed-up moral compasses, both make bad choices in their own lives, and commit crime. The “criminals are innocent victims of deprivation” stuff is Gramscian, society-undermining bullshit.
