Alan Williams Add this story to Scoopit!.

I was sad to read on The Hive that Deputy MFAT Secretary Alan Williams has died of cancer.  Alan was the PM’s foreign policy advisor in DPMC for many years, including during my couple of years in the PMO.  He was hugely regarded by absolutely everyone and handled all sorts of crisis’s with serenity.

My condolences to Mr Williams’ family.
But, MFAT, DPMC and PMO. Would somebody please be so kind as to translate that alphabet soup.
Some years ago I was proud to call myself a “Caring Understanding Nineties Type”. Then somebody used the acronym to describe me, and I have hated abbreviations ever since.

I had the privilege to attend his funeral. It was the most moving, humbling experiences in my Christian faith and I shall remember it always.

Alan was an amazing instrument of His Lord first and foremost before his career. And what an honourable career it was.

With two past prime ministers and a good presence of senior ministers it was clear to see the impact he had made not only in this country but globally.

As he entered the church in a coffin he had chosen himself, I thought to myself, this is so typical of Alan, humble in every way. He chose a plain wooden box, nothing fancy, nothing materialistic about it. That was his true character. Regardless of his endless positive impact on our leaders in foreign policy, he was a grounded man that wanted for nothing.

I shall miss him in our Board room.

Tofa Alan. I will treasure the special Christian knowing winks you’d give me whenever you saw me. It was a pleasure being inspired by someone with great status and yet humble to the very end and with integrity intact always. Just like Jesus.

    Fxxxxxxx
