Would be quite useful if the “Goodnight Kiwi” was a link to the home page. I keep clicking on it thinking it will take me somewhere.

(Yes, I know the “Home” tab is just beneath it, but it’s an automatic reflex to click on the kiwi.)

Oh, and I do surf using Steven den Beste’s old Proximitron, his settings just slightly tweaked, with extensive ad filtering, and I’m having no probs with the new 2.0 DPF. Hmmmm.

All looks very flash – but something is wrong because it takes an inordinate amount of time to follow links or refresh the page. E.g. 3 minutes of “waiting for kiwiblog.wordpress.etc…” after logging in, before anything appears.

Never had this problem with the old-look blog. I am using Firefox v2.0.0.12 at work and our normal broadband speed is “pretty good”…

looks great – the only quibble would be that the little logo on the tab (terribly technical term that) – looks like a wee pile of poo. Best to fix that early!

Just another form of PC thought policing. At least now we now for sure. Excellent plan in wrapping it up in “fun” though. No one will ever notice!

I think the karma function is a very good feature. It’s not a case of “PC thought policing”; what’s PC about it? It doesn’t pander to minorities … quite the opposite, in fact. There’s no “policing” in any event, unless you’re a sensitive flower and feel “policed” by a little negative feedback. The initial madness and vindictive psychos notwithstanding, what it does do is identify trolls and the so-called “kiwiblog right” who seem to have a whole lot more time on their hands than those who would want to refute them. It should answer those critics who seem thing that kiwiblog is inhabited solely by the D4Js and the Redbaiters of the world.

I like it overall. Gripes:

* the enormous navigation buttons at the top – in conjunction with a wide banner and the reflection effect, you’ve got a huge amount of space before you reach the actual content now. Please ditch the reflections at least
* the left column links on the homepage – these make it visually hard to find the content. The detailed post pages are much better for this purpose. Having to skip past a big list of who’s online just distracts.

Thing is D4J, I’d have to go round every commenter and press thumbs up even if I didn’t agree with their opinion. It’s unbelievable that someone like Tane would get a sudden surge of positve karma here, just like you would be unlikely to get the same from members of The Standard blog. It’s Human nature. The only twist is that people here are usually crazed enough to purposely bombard people they don’t like with positive karma for some element of secret pleasure: There they’ll be, chuckling to themselves that they voted positive karma on the guy they dislike the most.
