Prince Harry in combat
February 29th, 2008 at 8:42 am by David FarrarHe may have done some stupid things in the past, but have to admire Prince Harry’s conviction that he should not be protected just because he is Royal, with the news he has been fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The willingness of Prince Harry to meet the traditions of his family- to serve the crown as others do- are evidence of the reason why royalty can be such a binding force in a society. Conversely, when members of a royal family are not willing to meet those traditions, royalty can be a bloody great nuisance.
The UK is fortunate in having the royals that it currently has- and I make no comment as to how apposite the royals are to us in NZ.

Why are we kicking the yanks here?
The report says web sites from the US and Germany. Free pass for the bucket heads for any particular reason?
Lets not forget it was the BBC who were kind enough to tell the Argentine Air Force to fuse their bombs round the right way and saw off a lot of British servicemen. they only kept their traps shut because they would have been prosecuted.

A German magazine was the first to publish this information. I know its now a favoured Kiwi passtime to stick the boot in the Yanks at the earliest opportunity, but quite frankly it is getting a little tiresome.

Reminds me of the good old days of the Middle Ages, when a Royal who couldn’t hold his own on the battlefield was considered a waste of space

Murray, you would think the argentines would have listened to their pilots who told them their bombs werent exploding.
Vote:As for the BBC, its not unknown for mis information to be planted in the media., but only with hindsight can the correct sources be evaluated.
As for the Brits they didnt think it possible for low level air attack on modern ships to succeed.
And as for any bombs, they dont have a 100% explosion rate at any time, fuse too quickly and it blows the plane up with it

Stupid things in the past – well yes, perhaps – but i suspect that you and I would be on a par – just not quite so well reported!

Ok here we go. God it hurts to think slow enough for lefties to keep up.
Media supplying battlefield intel to enemy for DUMMIES.
The pilots were not in the ships that were bing bombed.
The bombs fail to go bang at a rate of 75%.
No one know why except the guys who defused the bombs when they hit the ship and not go off. (Note for new players, bombs dat gone bang no get defused)
The fuses was round the wrong way so no work like suposed to.
The BBC was on the ships being bombed.
The BBC found out what was wrong with bombs.
The BBC tell the world and thereby the ENEMY what they needed to to make the bomb go bang.
The next day 90% of the bombs they go bang. Lots of sailors and Marines they go bang too. Except the ones who burned.
This because the Argentines listen to the BBC who tell to turn fuse around.
Hey ghostie on behalf of my grandfather, do you speak japanese?

Been reported that leaks came from US German and Australian news outlets.
If so then those who leaked are bastards who deserve to be blown up by a Pom bomb.
Yes the young Prince has performed admirably much to the horror and constination of Ms Clark and fellow Republicans who hate the Royal Family and all the history of the British Empire.
Those who seek to deny their ancestry deserve to die unrecognised.

Murray, I think you are rewritting history.
This from the MOD day by day Diary . This is supposedly after the BBC revealed the secrets and is the part you allude to

Whilst unloading Welsh Guards in Port Pleasant, Sir Tristram is attacked by Grupo 5 A-4B Skyhawks and was struck by two bombs which failed to explode resulting in small fires and damage to the aft end with a loss of two of the RFA Hong Kong Chinese crew.
* Sir Galahad is also bombed in the same attack and is hit by three bombs on the starboard side. Not all exploded, but they did cause fires which very quickly got out of control causing thick black smoke and ammunition to be set off which severely damaged the ship and resulted in the loss of 47 lives, most of whom were Welsh Guards. It was clear from the outset that there was little to be done except abandon ship.
Notice the bit about bombs NOT exploding. Both ships were hit by bombs that didnt explode, however it only takes one or two. Most of the deaths were caused by exploding ammunition .This part of the operation was a right royal FU by the navy so they are allmost entirely to blame.
Yes the BBC did give a news report about bombs not exploding , but this from from information they got in the UK, not from the task force where they under military censorship

yes what would they know, and you know even less Murray
Most of those killed on the Sir G were killed by british ammunition not argentine bombs according to the Mod.
Naturally those in the thick of it dont see these differences but no reason for you 25 years later to be similarly blindfolded.
Basic rules were ignored by those in charge., was that the fault of the BBC too?
But the main points were:
Sir Tristram is attacked by Grupo 5 A-4B Skyhawks and was struck by two bombs which failed to explode..
Sir Galahad is also bombed in the same attack and is hit by three bombs on the starboard side. Not all exploded..
and on the same day..
HMS Plymouth is hit by four bombs, none exploded, but considerable damage caused
Pray tell were there any instances of bombs exploding because of information the BBC provided. Sound like Argentina didnt take any notice
Doesnt sound like the official history version or ´filters´’ as you put it supports your allegation that lives were lost because the BBC revealed secret information.
The majority of historical details for this diary are taken from ‘The Official History of the Falklands Campaign’ by Sir Lawrence Freedman, Professor of War Studies at King’s College, London.
Argentina may like to remember a rose tinted version of the war but the lives of those lost here are best served ( and thos ein the future) by finding out the truth.
delusions about war just lead to more wasted lives.
Vote:Now you must agree with this surely

Thew BBC is saying this about Harry..
Chief of the General Staff Sir Richard Dannatt, who is head of the British Army, said he was disappointed the news had leaked.
In a statement, he said: “I am very disappointed that foreign websites have decided to run this story without consulting us.
“This is in stark contrast to the highly responsible attitude that the whole of the UK print and broadcast media, along with a small number overseas, who have entered into an understanding with us over the coverage of Prince Harry on operations.”
But they didnt keep quiet for nothing
“In exchange for not reporting the prince’s deployment, some media organisations were granted access to the prince in Afghanistan for interviews and filming. ”

The version I”ve got:”the Argentines were using bombs of WW2 vintage. these were fitted with propellers, which rotated in the passing air stream, so that the fuse detonated only after being dropped from a certain height. Because the pilots were flying so low in order to escape radar, their bombs were not being fully armed on the descent. Later the Argentines realised the mistake and used bombs whose flight was retarded by parachute. The faulty fuses were reported widely in the UK press at this stage of the conflict, much to the fury of service personel whothought it may have alerted the Argentines to the need for readjustment”
From a Marshall Cavendish publication The Falklands War.

Well the war ended on 14 June ( began 2nd April) and I have from the official history ( not some cobbled together book of half truths) that Argentine bombs were still failing to explode on the 8th June. So much for believing the BBC
Yet the nonsense that the BBC had caused casualties by alterting Argentina to their faulty bombs ( the pilots would know immediately anyway)is continued to be spread around
Give up guys are are just spreading nonsense ( something you want to believe but is just not supported by the facts).
There is no suggestion parchute retarding was used against warships because of the BBC leak
THis is why it was a British stuff up
“Anchored 1,200 feet (370 m) apart in Port Pleasant, the landing ships were near Fitzroy, the designated landing point. The landing craft should have been able to unload the ships to that point relatively quickly, but confusion over the ordered disembarcation point (the first half of the Guards going direct to Bluff Cove) resulted in the senior Welsh Guards infantry officer aboard insisting his troops be ferried the far longer distance directly to Port Fitzroy/Bluff Cove.”

What the hell is official history?
Vote:February 29th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
The official records of what happened day by day are collected afterwards so an accurate timeline can be established.
THis “official” history is edited by an emminent military historian.
The reasons for this is that readers 25 years later can learn from it.
The stupid unfortunately never learn anything new, and when confronted with something that shows them wrong retreat into even more inanities

GWW – Flamin’ hell, the command decisions of British Generals clearly haven’t improved since Gallipolli. Kind of makes the camoflage suit redundant… why don’t they send him out in a clown suit. Perhaps because they’re all being worn at HQ.
Kudos to Harry for serving his country. Hopefully the experience will mature him and we’ll be spared the tabloid reportage of his idiotic exploits back home.
