How many Labour MPs are fleeing overseas

March 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am by David Farrar

I blogged yesterday about how Dover Samuels was heading overseas once he leaves Parliament.  Now I have been reminded that Marian Hobbs is off to the UK to teach, once she is off.  And it is widely rumoured Tim Barnett will also be heading to the UK.

So with around 12 Labour MPs retiring, as many as 25% of them will be fleeing NZ.  Is it any surprise so many other NZers are doing the same?

I wonder if a few “senior” but soon to be unemployed Labour MPs take the easy option and appoint themselves a position with Foreign Affairs before the election?

Just a wee reminder to Tim Barnett. When my case is finally taken on board by the appropriate authorities in due course I’ll think you’ll find that your hiding away in the UK will not protect you from various investigative matters that need closure. You should not have contacted solicitors involved in my case, as now one is a District Court judge. Tim, as I have told you many times before I am going to crush you in a Law Court one day. Is the evidence I have against you the reason why your house is on the market? You are a disgrace to New Zealand Tim Barnett and I will make you accountable whether you are in the UK or not? Remember the SPINZ suicide conference debacle and the green room debauchery! Your deceitful nature is going to bite you real hard soon.

Extremism of the kind you seem to promote does no one any good and ascribes credit to no one. Perhaps (and this is just a suggestion) if you moderated your rhetoric, even though sometimes it is very amusing, learnt a measure of self control (i.e. swallowed a deaad rat every now and then to acheive your aims), people would be more sympathetic to what you say – NOT focusing on how you say it.

In fairness to Marian, she is obviously passionate about teaching, and while she could easily retire on her Parliamentary pension, she obviously does not want to let the grass grow under her feet. However, she does not think it appropriate to teach in NZ following a Parliamentary career which is her main reason to head overseas. Although I think her Parliamentary career was mediocre I would wish her all the best in her new endeavours and I would think that any school she goes to would be fortunate in having a very gifted teacher on staff.

Mainly that people like Marion Hobbs, who endorse schooling as a means of indoctrinating children, and inducting them into a left wing political/ social paradigm, have ruined the education system, and as a result almost ruined the country, and should never ever be allowed within a light year of a school or any educational facility for that matter.

“A meeting between PM John Major and Actor Ian McKellen of the Stonewall Group has fuelled speculation that the Tory leader may be prepared to signal a dramatic shift in Conservative party policy on lesbian and gay issues. Stonewall’s executive director, Tim Barnett, confirmed that the meeting was scheduled to cover a wide range of topics, including ‘discrimination, the criminal law, the armed forces and other related issues’.”, John Marshall and Colin Richardson, in Gay Times, October, 1991.

It is outrageous that someone comes here temporarily from another country with the objective changing the laws in this country and goes back home when they have achieved their agenda. Anyone who maintains that a person membership in such an international lobby group has no bearing on how they do their job as an MP is living on another planet.

There’s simply no reason for anyone to go teaching to ‘correct the balance’. To balance out the effect of the moronic pinko teachers, smart right-leaing people simply take a role in teaching their kids at home. It’s not difficult to debunk leftist thought, even kids get it when it’s explained to them, except for the really dumb ones which eventually go on to become teachers (or academics) themselves.

Helen Clark in her own words:

“I was terribly shy, because of the lack of contact with other children. There were no others in the area and when I went to primary school I developed a lot of psychosomatic illnesses from having to mix with other kids.

“I had a very narrow social experience. There are still [as of 1984] whole slices of New Zealand I’ve never been in contact with and don’t feel at ease with. Like the business community. I’ve never had much to do with middle class urban New Zealand.”

“I felt really compromised. I think legal marriage is unnecessary and I would not have formalised the relationship [with husband Peter Davis] except for going into Parliament. I have always railed against it privately.”

“I’ve never had any intention of having a child. I definitely see children as destroying my lifestyle. It’s inconceivable that I would become pregnant. I realise my attitude is unusual, but I have other interests which crowd out everything else, and I think I’d go around the bend if my small amount of spare time was taken up by children.

“I was able to develop as a professional person with no breaks in career…I wasn’t caught in the trap of the young bride who seems to stop maturing when her kids are born.”

“I remember being greatly influenced by Kate Millett’s Sexual Politics and Germaine Greer’s The Female Eunuch when I was about 20.

“Men in particular lose control entirely. They scream and shout and are personally abusive. It’s really quite extraordinary. I never scream and shout, that’s not my nature.”

“I thought a lot about racism and joined Trevor Richards’ Halt All Racist Tours committee. During those years I had a sense of finding my identity through being politicised.”

“There are colleagues to whom I rarely speak, like Roger Douglas, and it’s mutual. What could we say to each other? There are years of very sharp differences of opinion.

    “Roger’s very intense, and sexist.

“The team which promoted Lange to power is incredibly sexist and I don’t see any way that a woman could ever have got admission to it. People like Moore and Prebble can’t help appearing sexist. I think that’s been a lot of the problem for me.

“Part of my being overlooked for any office is because I belong to another faction in the party, but part of it is also that I’m a woman.

“I think they find most women terribly threatening…I suppress so much. I’m conscious of some of the putdowns and the sexism.

“Discussions around Parliament are entirely conducted in terms of ‘he’. The men say it’s a generic term, but I don’t accept that. Of course it’s a put-down!”

David with all due respect the Family Court does not collect such information and part of the Fathers Coalition problem is exactly that . That is, trying to get them to acknowledge the existence of the problem . Many fathers suicide as forced clients in the litigation world of the Family Court . You ping me 10 demerits for that then I suggest that is not fair. That is not right as IF THE EVIDENCE EXISTED I WOULD CITE IT . I have many, many examples. The main idea behind this posting is disturbing, especially where Mr Barnett is concerned.

In recent years, I have wondered with increasing frequency about Mr Barnett’s motives which seemed to me to be the most spectactular example of ego-driven selfishness I’ve ever seen.

But is there more to it than Mr Barnett’s personal desires? Has there been a coordinated campaign by him and his supporters to move into NZ politics, establish a regime which further legitimises homosexuality and prostitution and undermines the family? It would appear so.

The damage has been done. Mr Barnett is now departing the scene of the crime with his ‘married’ partner.

I despair for our political process if it can be used in this way. To call it a democracy is just another abuse of our language.

I look forward to the day when we can recover some sense of decency in our public life and political process.

Phil – My Daughter and New Husband have just come back from Aussie. About 8 days on the Sunshine Coast and commented that how dear shopping had become. Food had gone up considerably from about 2 years ago, clothing, appliences, whitegoods, etc have also taken a serious hike in pricing.
They also say the news has the same ol same ol and NZ, poor hospitals, housing too dear, rise in mortgagee sales, you get the picture.
Mondays Sydney Morning Herald was full of doom and despodancy with people complaining about traffic, etc.

DPF explains the new Comment Karma feature here:

Comment Karma – you can now vote good comments up and bad comments down. Will be a good way of highlighting good comments. We did try and install another plugin which similiar to slashdot would also allow one to filter by comment rating and assign default karma to a user so good commenters start off with higher defaults. But that plugin is designed for low traffic blogs, not one with over a hundred thousand comments on it – the server died despite all attempts. But even this one should be fun

I think it’s a good feature as it encourages Kiwiblog readers who generally don’t comment to have their say anyway :)

Could maybe one of you guys just post the comment “Don’t like poofters!” at the start of each thread, another one post “Who does?” and then we could all just skip the ensuing 50 posts of anti-gay bullshit?

DPF: was there a point to this post? Are you suggesting MPs should be barred from leaving the country? You seem to be at least suggesting that govt MPs leaving is a sign of them having wrecked the country – can we take it then that no National govt MPs would leave NZ following their retirement? Good luck with that one.

I’ve left the country twice now – it was fucked up when I left both times, and just as fucked up when I came back, both times. Different govts in power, no discernable difference in general fucked-up-ed-ness. Oddly enough, the countries I moved to also seemed to have rather a large number of problems, just like here. Both also seemed to have more than their share of whingers bleating about the govt, also just like here. Personally, I thought it was the whingers, not the govts, fucking those countries up. Just like here.

The nicest thing about living in another country is that it is not yours to criticise. I lived in England for 4 years and the only thing I gave a shit about was my weekly pay packet and the wonderful holidays I could have. Whatever the government was doing over there was not my concern. I will be taking the same attitude with me when I leave for Australia in May.
I no longer wish to live in NZ because I give too much of a shit about the erosion of the average Kiwi’s standard of living that I have witnessed, aided and abetted by the coalition government. You might say I should stay and fight. Well under this current government I feel anyone publically speaking out against them is in some way going to end up a marked man. I apologise in advance for being negative but I just don’t see a change in government this year. The budget lolly scramble and backroom deals with coalition partners will bribe many to retain the status quo.

So let me get it straight when you whinge it does not increase the fucked-up-ed-ness coefficient of the particular country that you happen to be residing at the time but if any one else whinges it does increase the fucked-up-ed-ness coefficient of the nation.
An amazing concept. I suspect further research (in your own mind) of the value of the reduction in the fucked-up-ed-ness coefficient caused by your words of wisdom will show it to be inversely proportional to the lumenosity of the sun that shines from your rear orifice.
