Voice Spammed
March 1st, 2008 at 12:47 pm by David FarrarJust received an automated voice spam call on my voicemail. From Roger Douglas, promoting his speech at the ACT Party Conference. Presumably is being done by ACT. I have serious doubts that the annoyance it causes to so many people is worth the number of positive responses they get.

I got one too! Came through yesterday.
I thought it was good. Do any other parties do these? I was a member of National for a year or two and never received anything like it.

The weekend after the last general election, I got a call from Act reminding me to go out and vote…

Funnily enough, we got voice spammed by Benny Hinn Ministries before one of his ‘conferences’ (more like fundraising events) in Christchurch. Don’t know how they possibly got our number…

Phone spam seems efficient but loses several million points for counterproductivity. Wrong tool for the job. Leave phone spam to the debt collectors.

DPF, just out of curiosity, what sis you think of john boscawen’s telephone spamming effort, in opposition to the Electoral Finance Bill? Don’t seem to recall too many squeaks coming from you corner on that occasion.
[DPF: I doubt that was particularly effective either. I'm just glad I wasn't called.]

… and a headline from Murray’s very own blog…..
“Matt Drudge is a fucking cunt.”
Need we see more?

Is New Zealand desperately short of political advisors with the least bit of nous, or what?
Helen’s seem to have given up, Key’s are clearly pinning their hopes on Labour continuing to screw up rather than anything proactice (and when they do, it’s a DVD they manage to overpay for and screw up), and now this.
Perhaps, like everyone else with any skills, good political advisors have all gone overseas.

I had this too – in 2005. I was not impressed.

Does anyone actually know how many of these went out?
I mean, to be fair to Act, they may have just sent them out to people that have had some contact with the party before, rather than all and sundry.

Voice spamming seems to be a popular tactic with ACT.
We don’t live in Epsom (we are well inside Mt Albert) but our home number has been spammed 3 times by Rodney Hide over the past few years. Two things piss me off about it … firstly, the fact that it is spam, and secondly, the quality of the recording so appalling you can hardly understand what on earth he is banging on about.

Those stupid automated machines should be illegal. Makes one feel like hammering every politicians phone with ads for obscure products until someone gets a brain and makes it illegal.

I think when you’re at 1% in the polls, making 90% of the population hostile to you is not going to be one of your top concerns if you can get to the 10% who will be receptive. So yeah, possibly not something that National should use, but the worst thing that could happen to ACT is that they stay at 1%.

Isn’t it funny how when only at 1-2% in the polls, ACT still make news, be it MSM or the blogosphere. Compare with the Progressives.
Also ACT polled > 1.5 % when the general consensus they were a wasted vote. Backed up by a rougue poll.
They have been written off so many times they make the Black Caps look like the Aussies in comparison!
They are well organised, have policy, and have funding. Watch their influence come October, it will be very significant.

Exactly btr, every election various commentators write them off – but they keep coming back. The amount of money I could have won if people had been willing to put their money where there mouth was!

I know I intend on voting for them again. Most Kiwibloggers know the sense in seeing ACT with a bit more teeth being there with the Nats. Ahh I remember the heady days of the 90′s with all those lovely old school ACT policies, Shipley as PM and Labour in opposition where they belong

You go ACT. Push hard to make Rodney Minister of Corrections in a Shar-Key government
