Yates retires
March 20th, 2008 at 1:50 pm by David FarrarNZPA reports on the valedictory speech of Di Yates.
Yates stood for the Hamilton City Council in October last year. Despite having been an MP for 15 years she failed to get elected to the Council, coming 7th in her ward.

She is useless at everything she does. She’s shrill, angry and ineffective. Bye bye Di.
It was funny watching her pack a sad when she got beaten in her electorate in 2005. Major major sour grapes.
Vote:She’s only into democracy if she’s winning, just like the rest of labour, right?
March 20th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Yep, rejected by the public but we still have her in the house…..remind me how that can in any way be described as democratic?

Big Buv she was not “rejected” by the public, she failed to win the most support in an electorate.
There is in fact no way for an electorate to “reject” someone, they can only prefer someone else. I think it is right that MPs that don’t win in seats that are safe for the opposition can still come into Parliament if their party is indeed popular enough throughout the country to justify it.
Whether or not she is/was a competent MP is a judgement call you can make, and if you don’t think she is, or you think someone else is better, you can choose to prefer someone else.

I think Shane Vuglar’s missus will take over from Dianne Yates.
Vote:Shane is the bloke that is threatening to make hospitals unclean, as from 5th April 2008.

A total nonce.
Vote:Contributed nothing in 15 years.
Even when she managed to stay awake in the house.
Good riddance.
Oh sorry, ” dog chips.”
” Helping to stop dangerous dog attacks.”
Not.
Standing for HCC and comming 7th
No idea.
Her replacement will shine in comparrison.

I went to the local electorate debate in 2005.
Di responded to ridicule by giving the audience the silence treatment as if we were naughty school children.
It was offensive and she’s hopeless. How much tax payer dollars has this woman swallowed up over her political career?

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please tell me it isn’t so!!!!!
Di Yates is leaving parliament???
No sorry, just joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather have a hot poker shoved up my arse then listen to this waist of space.

There is something seriously wrong with our electoral system when these people, whose electorate have said ‘clear off’, wind up back in parliament. They cool their heels, picking up their substantial monthly stipend, and contribute nothing to the good of this country. They are there to vote as directed, do what they are told. The really sad thing is, there is no end of this crap in sight.
I don’t believe anyone should be in parliament who is not elected to be there by the will of the people. Bring on electoral reform.

Probably one of the least effective MPs in the House, but she was a shining star of talent compared to some of the other MPs – Mahara Okeroa, Mita Ririnui, Darien Fenton, Martin Gallagher, Dave Hereora, Lesley Soper…
Vote:And her facsination with cows was interesting.
