The NZ Herald reports the Association of Medical Specialists:

“We got nowhere with [former minister] Pete Hodgson on that. It was like beating our head against a brick wall,” Mr Powell said.

“When David Cunliffe came along, it felt as though there had been a change of Government.

    Could you believe the blatant use of Ryall’s policy document language though? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, they’ve run out of their own ideas…

    Gotta laugh at the Herald’s headline though – “‘Boy wonder’ falls into line with doctors” – I daresay that will be used in exchanges from time to time!

    In other words Hodgson told us to go away and sort it out on our own and then Cunliffe came along with leadership ambitions, saw the opportunity for headlines, and intervened at the request of a rich and powerful union.

    Thought we got rid of this kind of thing in the 1980s? Do we really want ministers subverting negotiations?
