SIR BOB COMES TO HIS SENSES

Sir Robert Jones confessed last night when launching ACT Hutt South candidate Lindsay Mitchell’s campaign that there was a very good reason why he told a journalist recently that he’d be voting National this election for the first time since 1981.

“I can’t remember saying it. But if I did say it, it’s because I was drunk at the time. In fact, I was very drunk.”

Record turnout for an ACT dinner in the Hutt: 100+ with some turned away.

Great speeches by Sirs Roger and Robert, and Rodney. Bob and Rodney must be two of the best speakers in NZ, and Roger speaks the most sense.

I had a fun chat with a Labour Party campaign manager, asking him to point out which policies on ACT’s 20 Point Plan he disagreed with.

After scanning the list, all he could really object to was a minor sub-point: limiting Cabinet to 12 members and Parliament to 100 MPs.

“So given that you’re really an ACT supporter, will you now be resigning from Labour?” I asked.

“Nah, it’s a tribal thing,” he confessed. He also pointed out that he was still young, implying that he may yet make the switch as he matures – as so many ACT supporters have done.

It’s manifest destiny writ large to witness a commanding all prevailing ACT party take its rightful place in parliament again this October/November. It will be interesting to observe how close the country eventually gets to the ideal of flat tax. It’s a necessary path that must be traversed if ever the economic malaise that has infected the country is to be turned around. I’m quite enthusiastic about the prospect of wasteful government spending being reduced and eliminated. Shouldn’t be an arduous assignment considering how much waste has been piled on over the last nine years.

I look forward to Roger Douglas becoming the next Finance Minister later this year. A Finance Minister the country can be proud of at last.

Is anyone able to tell me why ACT, who like other minor parties seldom show up in Committee stages but unlike others almost never proxy their party vote?.
Is there a reason I may have missed? – is it a stand of some kind? It’s not a good look and Rodney should know what happens when you repeatedly don’t show up for work

I’ve considered ACT many times but want to know their position on various other issues?

Let parents ‘choose babies sex’ – Bioethics Council. Relates to IVF only.. now now. Anyone prepared to hazard a guess as to how long before this becomes a ‘right’ for natural conception situations? 2 years? 3 years?
