Harawira on Labour Add this story to Scoopit!.

The Herald reports:

The outspoken MP also claims in a newsletter to his constituents that Labour is the “thieving bunch” who stole the foreshore and seabed off Maori.

“They took Manaaki Tauira [tertiary education grants] away from our kids, took Maori out of schools, took the Treaty out of the curriculum and voted to take the Treaty out of all legislation,” the newsletter says.

“They stand between us and a clean sweep of the other three Maori seats. In electoral terms, they are our declared enemy. I mean these guys suck.”

That newsletter sounds like an election advertisement to me!

“That newsletter sounds like an election advertisement to me!”

Sounds like rank and disgusting racism to me. Racism used as a plank to political power. Loathsome.

  2. Lee C (4,120) Says:

I agree with Harawira: For Labour? chickens …. roost …. home …. to …. coming…..

PS shouldn’t he be prosecuted under the EFA this is clearly an inducement Not to vote Labour?

  3. 3-coil (1,064) Says:

Te Maori party would still prop up a Labour government though!

This is just more hot air from Hone.

Auntie Turiana would love to cruise around Wellington again (lying down on the backseat – as she is wont to do) in one of the Labour government’s flash new BMW limosines.

Remember, the Maori Party hates the National party (the party of “honky rich pricks”) …even more than it “loves” the foreshore and seabed.

  4. Neil (431) Says:

    Interesting comment about Harawira.
About 18 months ago there was a bill on foreign investment in the House. Harawira, for some amazing circumstances, was on the Finance and Expenditure Committee considering submissions.
I lobbied all members, I got replies from all except Harawira and Craig Foss. Harawira apparently will not reply to correspondence unless they are Maori. Gordon Copland, much criticised, wrote a personal letter which I couldn’t agree with but at least he cared enough. Why Foss never replied, even acknowledging my letter, I still don’t know. Hope he doesn’t get cabinet promotion !
Harawira is best dispatched to the rubbish tin – if there’s something in it for him he’s in boots and all. Suck the money out of the “honky”

  5. Patrick Starr (3,662) Says:

Not often I would ever find myself agreeing with anything this thug would say but I have to admit a slight appeal to; ” Labour suck” – and is already “gone for all money”

What I find interesting is the international trend

  6. Ross Miller (1,481) Says:

I too don’t have much truck with his rabid mouthings but at least you know exactly where he stands and where he is coming from. And I do know that he has huge grassroots up here in the Far North with his Labour opponent virtualy conceeding the election to him and focusing on a Party Vote campaign instead.

  7. grumpyoldhori (2,102) Says:

Neil, you did write to him in Maori did you not dear boy ?
You know, the other official language of NZ.

  8. Lee C (4,120) Says:

Could you repeat that last post in Maori, please grumpy?

  9. georgedarroch (286) Says:

“Harawira apparently will not reply to correspondence unless they are Maori.”

I wonder who told you that rumour? Cause it certainly ain’t true. I’ve had replies fom Hone, talked to him, and he’s fine with correspondence in English.

He’s as down to earth as they come – and not afraid to speak his mind.

I hope either National or Labour have to rely on the Maori Party to form a government. The results would be hilarious!

  10. stephen (4,058) Says:

The Maori Party do some odd things, but to believe that Harawira only replies to letters written in Maori just beggars belief for so many reasons.

  11. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

I hope either National or Labour have to rely on the Maori Party to form a government. The results would be hilarious!

If the results were hilarious then I don’t want the Maori party anywhere near a coalition. Our country is pretty screwed right now, and fixing it will be no laughing matter.

On the contrary we can probably expect plenty of tears and cries of “it’s not fair [on me]” However we have to rebuild after 9 years of clever but corrupt leadership

  12. calendar girl (651) Says:

The guy is an enigma. He seems so deliberately divisive in many things that he says and does, intent on punching everyone on the nose rather than trying to win debates rationally.

Then I think back to his magnificent speech in Parliament on the final reading of the Electoral Finance Bill. There is not a serious opponent of the repugnant EFA who would not say: “I wish that I could express my outrage with such eloquence.”

  13. 3-coil (1,064) Says:

I think I could quite quickly and easily communicate all of my opinions to Hone just using the third official language of NZ – sign language.

  14. tim barclay (886) Says:

Labour is the maori party’s bitter enemy in the maori seats. I presume the maori party is getting from Labour what National gets from Labour elsewhere. Labour played fairly dirty last time and they are doing it again. Labour is scum basically, but a dying party is not going to be very nice, death never is.

  15. grumpyoldhori (2,102) Says:

Heh, no problem Lee, but do you understand reo ?

  16. grumpyoldhori (2,102) Says:

Jeez Stephen, of course Hone answers letters written in the Queen’s
    tongue.
Write to Hone suggesting the Hokianga foreshore be given to that whiter shade of pale mob known as Nga Tahu, and you will get a prompt response :-)

  17. jskern (9) Says:

Regardless of your view of race-based agendas, and irrespective of your views of his unparliamentarily language, Hone is absolutely spot on about the Labour Party’s being the declared enemy of the Maori party. They are the declared enemy of every other political party. Labour, like all leftist parties, has one tacit, unpinning credo: Statism Über Alles; and they’ll use any means necessary to achieve the political power required to bring NZ under statist control. All other political parties are a direct threat to this.

…can’t wait to see the back of ‘em.

  18. expat (3,684) Says:

and thats one of the reasons I’m picking Labour down to 22% and Maoris up to 5% on election day.

  19. riki (234) Says:

‘and thats one of the reasons I’m picking Labour down to 22%’

Would that be the worst stat for a political party ever in NZ history?

  20. expat (3,684) Says:

just look at the trend lines and correlate that with the appalling pr campaign and election strategy they are employing – it could happen.

Just remember a LOT of people trie dto vote laybore out last time but they cheated and cribed their way in in urban centres.

The urban swingers they bribed are now fed up AND poorer.

The heartland NZ punters hate them even more…

  21. side show bob (3,646) Says:

Grumpyoldhori, forget the reo mate. I bet Hone is happy to take any cheque writen in the queens english. As for the foreshore and seabed, forget it, havn’t you heard of rising sea levels. If I was you I would bring the markers in a few meters in and try your luck.

  22. philu (10,919) Says:

“..Racism used as a plank to political power. Loathsome…”

but..but..isn’t/hasn’t racism been one of the long-serving ‘planks’ of the right..?

    y’know..!..all that ‘brown benificiary’ talk’..?..and..and..

  23. mavxp (322) Says:

    Hone is right about Labour.

I don’t agree with his race based approach in principle, but put in perspective of how the Maori party came about – the Foreshore and Seabed issue and how Labour went totalitarian on Maori without due process of law and claimed it for the Crown… you can understand his anathema for Labour.

If Helen hadnt f*cked over what forms in essence part of our constitution and removed the Privy Council *without our say*, a case by the Maori would have had a pretty good chance against the Crown. And as for the EFA – well, now Hone can’t even complain about without it being counted against him.

Due process should be reestablished by National, and the Foreshore & Seabed legislation should be reviewed in principle. It’s Nationals policy to end Treaty negotiations in the proper manner, and this should include in good faith hearing Maori’s grievance over the Seabed & Foreshore through the Waitangi Tribunal. If National came out clear with a statement to that effect that regardless of Maori Party support they would have the issue settled through the Waitangi Tribunal, it would be the final nail in Helens coffin – a stake of wood through the middle of it ;)

We had some pretty grumpy maori in the Ureweras considering something pretty nasty to get their voices heard. This is the sort of sh*t that happens when you remove peoples right to due process of law. National must re-establish that trust.

    my 2c.

  24. OECD rank 22 kiwi (2,528) Says:

    Labour does suck.

Fran O’Sullivan has done a good piece in the NZ herald today “Public want focus on cost of living, not ETS”.

Only a third of New Zealanders believe in AGW. Well, that’s more than believe in Labour itself. Only 13% of New Zealanders strongly support the ETS. This is the same Leglisation that Hels wants to campaign on. National is going to win this election easily.

Question, Who is National’s effective opposition? Labour appears to be giving National all the help it can and then some to become the new government of New Zealand.

  25. Murray (8,734) Says:

Hey grumpy sign language is an offical languge too, I’m making one now.

    Can you read it?

  26. philu (10,919) Says:

is your hand curled..?..as if holding a chipolata..?

..and moving in an up and down motion..?
