Another secret donation?
August 6th, 2008 at 9:05 am by David FarrarThe Dom Post cites a “well-placed NZ First source” that NZ First has banked at least one cheque bearing the Simunovich name.
And the problem for Winston, if this is true, is:
Mr Peters was asked in 2004 if his party had received donations from Simunovich Fisheries when it was revealed that his adviser, former National MP Ross Meurant, was also working for Simunovich. “I’m saying no,” Mr Peters said.
The Hive recalls previous issues with Smunovich.
We also have the latest response from Helen Clark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs:
WP: Got your tape rolling, Phil?
WP: I told you I’m not talking to a lying gripper
WP: You know what that is? That is a lying wanker who won’t let go. See you.
Helen Clark promised new standards for her Government when she was elected. This is obviously what she meant. This is not Muldoonism. This is far beyond anything Muldoon did.

” “I’m saying no,” Mr Peters said.” means exactly that: I am saying the word “No” it doesn’t mean the answer to your question is no.

Good call on muldoonism, I agree this is a disgrace for New Zealand politics, but the real issue is as Mike Moore says in the NZ Herald ( http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=10525465&pnum=2 )”Now neither main party dare criticise Winston because they may need him to form a Government.” & that is the archilles heel of MMP, for all the good it has done it has meant the likes of Peters can exploit their pivot position to indulge in Racist attacks on immigrants & cover up for funding irregularities that strike at the heart of our political system.

The secret taping thing looks suspiciously like Watergate. Half of Nixon’s administration resigned or were sent to prison for their attempts at secret taping and the resulting coverup. None of the members of the Labour/NZ First Government have been jailed yet. Why are their standards of personal responsibility so much lower than Nixons?

Hmmm.
Substantial NZF donations from Vela.
NZF donations from Simunovich?
Marine Reserves Bill still languishing in Parliament 6 years down the track because NZF won’t provide the numbers to pass it and Government now has to make concessions to National to make progress with it.

Really? I recall Muldoon announcing a snap election whilst under the influence. His President, Sue Wood, was from all accounts mightily surprised at this announcement.

“Well placed source” – not sure if this one can stick. Indeed, I suspect if Winston had been (or could have been) more upfront to date it may not even have made the level of reportable. One can’t help but wonder how much more there is to go on this story. Is it to soon, touching wood, to dare think that the Winston-chooks are coming home to roost?

Baseless allegations…. they are out to get me….. the satelities are watching me….. the voices said “NO”….
Come on Winston – resign!
Vote:August 6th, 2008 at 10:17 am
Until we hear otherwise, these accusations are possibly unfair. Winston said he’s got a perfectly good explanation for all of these, well, some of these, well probably at least one of these donations. I think I’ve figured that out, and if its true, everyone wins: Legal Performance Enhancement.

Old Rob M will be spinning in his grave that his boy Luigi has proved to be as unethical and immoral as he has.
One thing for the old style pollies from my early days following the black art they did have a moral and ethical compass and the citizens did trust them at their word.
Sadly over the past decade the rot has set in so now the only pollie you can trust is a dead one.
At least when their in the grave they cant tell any more lies and destroy the citizens lives.
Although they would still want to be able to do so.

“This is far beyond anything Muldoon did.”
Colin Moyle for one would disagree.
[DPF: I was mainly meaning in terms of bashing the media. While Muldoon was quite wrong is using info against Moyle like that, Moyle was stupid to taunt him.
Incidentally considering how often certain Labour Ministers taunt some National MPs about their alleged closet gayness, are they much better?

If you speak the truth, you get voted up, if you spread lies and propaganda, you get voted down.

I think it was more ‘he bagged Winston, Helen and Key while being funny’ than ‘truth’. Lefties here usually get hammered for talking about the weather.
Vote:August 6th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Winston’s strategy was very evident in the General Debate today. Having tried the “Yellow Peril” gambit and failed, he’s now trying to whip up support from the mad conspiracy theorists who’ll vote for anyone that “sticks it to the man”. His entire speech was “they’re all out to get us”, sprinkled with unsubtle reminders that “we don’t want assets sold overseas” and “we want pensioners to have more”. Even a cursory examination of the effectiveness of these goons on either of those topics over the past 13 years would demonstrate that their effectiveness is nil.
However that won’t stop those who don’t take the time to understand the issues from feeling that he is somehow the underdog – rather than simply a mongrel.

And I bet you a penny to a pound that it is enough to get the bastard back into the house for another term.
All that proves is that it is not only Labour voters who are mind numbingly fucking stupid.
Vote:August 6th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
You’re right, BB… what’s needed is a campaign that follows him round the hustings to every public meeting asking him pointed questions. Not about the funding issues, where he can beat the “they’re all picking on me” drum, but about, say, Auckland airport. About the difference in what he says to Asians when he’s in Asia and what he says about them when he’s in NZ. Keep exposing him as a hypocrite.
I have some time off coming, and a megaphone…

I don’t even think that would work, the media (as I have mentioned in another thread) want him back in the house, if they genuinely wanted to get rid of him then they only need to starve the bugger of press and media coverage.

Oh for the days when only white male property owners could caste a vote.
