The colonial power which is making sure that everything works is China. Expect a visit in the near future to Zimbabwe by Chinese officials to organise what happens where- and remember that they have had an observer at the talks- probably why news.xinhuanet.com is so well informed

The expectation is that the deal will work- the big sticking point has been how to keep the various factions of ZANU-PF on board. Zimbabwean troops fighting in the Congo are also an issue, as Mugabe has better relations with Uganda than does Tsvangirai, and if Zimbabwe pulls out from the Congo as Tsvangirai said they should then the army will lose a lot of money.
Disclosure: I worked with the Ugandan army in providing support to the RPF, and deployed with the Ugandans during the Congo War.
