Take the test to be a cop

The Police have an very good online test of your suitability to be a cop (no it is not driving over burglars).
The test has
- 10 verbal reasoning questions
- 7 numerical reasoning questions
- 7 abstract reasoning questions
- 5 general suitability questions
I got 28/29!

Ugh, I only got 23. I’m no good at those fraction things.

I can just see you all dressed up in a uniform David.
Perhaps you could get posted to South Auckland and stop the full moon coming out.

27 – I dont have a full license so I guess i got a general question wrong
thought i would get less
a few of those early ones were weird
so was history the odd one out or was it economics?

Ha ha… I got 28 out of 29… the “wrong” answer being I’m not permanently residing in NZ
I also love it how English fluency “will have a positive impact on your application to join the NZ Police”!

Clearly everyone who has replied so far is overqualified.
August 17th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
The first time I did it I put in random answers… got 10/29 response “Sorry you do not qualify to be a cop, but have you considered a career in the Labour Party?”
The second time I did it I put in some random and some deliberately wrong answers… got 5/29 response “Sorry you do not qualify to be a cop, but have you considered a career in the Green Party?”
The third time I did it I put in all deliberately wrong answers… got 0/29 response “Hello again Winston”

Hauges
I was a bit confused about this questions;
Q. What does Prima Facie mean?
I was amazed to find out that the answer depended on the political affiliations of the accused, if the accused is not from the Labour party apparently Prima Facie means something like “there being sufficient evidence to proceed to trial” however if the accused is a member of Labour it means “Contact Commissioner Broad and Heather Simpson immediately”

Two problems Maths 5 i could not get the progression and one of the abstracts with circle square square cross i would have gone for crosses like the circles but not a option but still fun
August 17th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
That was really easy – I got 28/29, but the only “wrong” answer was not having a drivers license.
August 17th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Never a fan of “odd one out” questions. I can usually conjure up reasonable rationales why at least half the answers are the odd one out

28/29? well done
now lets see if you can run 2.4km’s in about 10 mins. im sure there are plenty of us here that would like to watch that
personally, i get tired driving that far.

Graeme is dead right. So, perhaps some of our coppers are not so bright after all??

Yeah, I passed the tax the tinnie dealler question, failed the report taxing to your DI, got confused about no donuts in industrial area carparks during early morning patrols and didnt understand the thing about sheilas being as good as blokes.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:21 am
I’m glad I failed miserably. Everytime I see that bloke who let the Kahui’s crime scene be commercially cleaned, while they were off at a Tangi, I wonder what kind of person this test is supposed to filter out.

22, and got timed out in two sections.
Guess the Police won’t be needing me!
Wonder what scores serving police officers would generally get?

I got 28/29, but, I debate the cops answer to ‘What is the opposite of enlarge?’. I answered “contract” but the official answer was ‘decrease’.
In fact, I think ‘contract’ is more correct. Enlarge (in my opinion) commonly indicates an increase in physical size, while contract is a ‘shrinking’ in physical size.
This is the enlarge definition from dictionary.com…
—Synonyms 1. extend, magnify, amplify, dilate. See increase.
—Antonyms 1. diminish. 2. contract.
Exam is faulty!

…the cops dont like smartarses, thats why you failed sunshine. just watch your step sonny, or you’ll be nicked.
August 18th, 2008 at 8:56 am
26 for me.
Shit .. and one of those was in the numerical section (I have a degree in stats)
Who can I blame ?
I think I am showing my uber-competitive side here.

27, but has anyone noticed that the questions do not remain the same if you take the test again.
I was also stumped by the history/economics odd-one-out dilemma.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
How did it know that I got the residency/driver’s license/convictions questions right??? I think we’ve given the police a few to many surveillance powers!
August 18th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
For anyone wondering about the economics/history question, the odd one out was “science” (the rest were specific fields).
August 18th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
25
I must have had the other test as I cannot recall a question regarding Science being the odd one out.
I never went past the exam marks.
Does anyone know what the pass mark was?
August 18th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
I got the same result as Asher.
Usually I get one of the abstractions wrong, for the same reason as Graeme.
August 18th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
There is one question they did not indicate whether you were right or wrong – your age. From the construction of he question it would seem that if you are 40+, forget it.
I did not ‘try’ it but AFAIK a drink drive conviction is lethal for a Newcops application. Wrapping a car round a power pole as a youth seems OK as long as you ‘declare’ it in your application

I did hte actual entrance exam once.I flew through it and was all set to become a copper until I turned up at Porirua and they discovered my parents were actually married….
