Kiwiblog Stats
September 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pm by David FarrarAs it is end of the month, have taken a look at the various stat packages. First we have Alexa. This only measures traffic and ranks amongst those who have downloaded the toolbar. However in terms of trend, it gives some useful perspective:
This shows Kiwiblog’s rank amongst websites bowsed by NZers (who have the Alexa toolbar). The approaching election really seems to be having an impact, with Kiwiblog now in 90th place. The top 10 are:
- google.co.nz
- trademe.co.nz
- yahoo.com
- google.com
- live.com
- youtube.com
- facebook.com
- bebo.com
- wikipedia.org
- nzherald.co.nz
Then we have the stats from WordPress

Congratulations DPF.
By any chance have they done a ranking of just NZ blog sites? (Hard to know when NZH and Stuff are news)
I do see the overall rank of 1,314,983 for Whoar.co.nz – showing a 3 months 12% improvement from 1.4 average views per day to 1.7 average views per day but can’t find a link to all NZ blogs

Whaleoil (274)
Vote:Interesting to note that Nzs supposedly No 1 newspaper ranks so far below TradeMe and the BBC ranks at 22 above any other NZ newpaper, speaks loudly for the relevance the internet savvy see in the NZ media.

More to the point how the frick did my blog get into the 1700′s for NZ and on the cusp of the top half a million globally…
Vote:Too many people with not enough to do methinks…
And it is nice to see David and Cam maintaining their 1 and 2 placings for individual blogs in NZ, an outstanding performance when you consider the other three in the over all top five are massive team efforts, two of them are party funded and the other is Russell Brown and a thousand friends who have been blogging since pc’s were made of stone and messages were chiselled.

I deeply mistrust Alexa and anything that is based in any way on Alexa results. It’s a little like the W3C findings a few years ago that some huge percentage of people were not using IE to visit them. Well, given who goes to W3C, that’s not too big a surprise – but people tried, briefly, to spin it out to say that MS was fabricating IE user data. With Alexa, the aggrevating factor is that so many of us treat it as spyware. So who uses it? Grumble, grumble.

Alexa is crap. It is used predominantly by foreigners — hence the over representation of Chinese websites.
