Roughan on Bridges
September 25th, 2008 at 11:00 am by David FarrarNZ Herald Assistant Editor John Roughan interviews the next MP for Tauranga – SImon Bridges. Well worth a read.
And the Dom Post reports on Bob Clarkson’s two second valedictory speech.

He should have had;
“Will I be back” in little words at the top. NO in the middle in true Winston style.

I just read it.
It was well worth a read.
I liked the way that he was honest in saying he didnt understand the way education worked. That was a very sensible answer. Nice and Honest rather then bumbling something together.

It’s a pity there aren’t alot more like him. He did NZ a service by defeating Winnocent.

Clarkson may have been a hopeless MP, but it seems he’s got a wicked sense of humour.
The Dom-Post didn’t get just how funny this was, or that the sign was directed more at Clarkson’s predecessor as the Member for Tauranga than the House as a whole.

I think ‘BYE BYE’ was amessage to WInston rather than from Clarkson – obvioulsy a piss-take of Winnies ‘No’ signs.

Surely, it was just his left testicle?

Anyway – pound for pound Clarkson has been a good investment. He defeated Winston, and the pursuant courtcase lead to the Owen-Glenn fiasco and loss in court for Winston. On top of which the Tauranga electorate has now been furnished with a very capable National candidate. All in all a mixture of serendipity and strategy which has had historic results. Buy the guy a drink. Actually Bob – buy me a frikkin drink, I’m parched!

I read Roughan’s interview on Simon Bridges. Simon has said in brief what I have heard him say at a supper meeting some weeks ago, where he covered more topics and in greater depth. Simon is a fine young man and will represent Tauranga well – I’m sure he’ll bolt in. He is articulate and engaging, and talks freely at a grass rooots level and in layman’s language – perhaps his West Auckland upbringing. He is someone to watch over the next few years – after two terms, Minister for Justice ??? We’ll see, but that’s my prediction.

Clarkson’s message was much more honest and sincere than the sign produced by the previous member for Tauranga.

Likeable guy – but ultimately a dick if that Herald piece is anything to go by.
I have very little time for anyone who invites foreigners to “go back to ___”
Bye-bye sign is EXCELLENT though!!

It’s quite OK with people like “Toad” and “RRM” for the NZ-ers that love Bob Clarkson to go completely unrepresented in Parliament, while a “representative” parliament of course includes all current politically correct groupings being over-represented (without mentioning any names), and up to 50% of NZ-ers not being represented at all……

WTF are you talking about? Clarkson is not your property. You don’t have a right to his personal representation.

best is calling for/supporting parliamentary representation for the reactionary/rightwing-thicko/boofhead constituency..
..he must be grieving..
..cos’ clarkson was his man..and now he’s gone..
..but hey..he’s got old ‘climate-change is a hoax’ hide to fall back on..eh..?
..hide’ll have to be his new ‘man’..eh..?
..he’s a big enough man for that task..eh..?

At the risk of offending vast tracts of readers, I’ve reproduced, in part, something I just posted in another thread.
I’ve been following Bridges’ political career since uni days. He’s been focussed and hard-working in politics for years. Even at uni he was ballsy and principled enough to support his views in that hard-core bastion of blinkered dogmatic lefties.
Since then, he’s worked his butt off in the toughest area of the law which, you have to remember is more than just the crims – it’s the raw side of the commmunity involving victims, witnesses and every layer of the justice system. Bridges knows and understands his community more than most including the harsh realities of life at all levels of the community. Plus, and this is a huge plus, he understands the wider context of how that community fits into the nation’s political landscape and how New Zealand fits into the world. Definitely one to watch from now on.
He’s not quite Bob, but Tauranga; you’ll be in the best hands!!
p.s. DJP6-25 – “Winnocent” – gold!!!!!
