Two new Labour Party sites

Labour has started to deploy two party websites, on top of the taxpayer funded labour.org.nz.
There is labourparty.org.nz. It looks like it will be a permament site for the party organisation. Quite a nice design – the red isn’t that awful bright red, and lots of white space.
Easy for people to join or donate to the party.
The site is not quite finished – a few pages come up with errors. They have a blog there but no RSS feed for it yet.
The campaign site is www.labour08.co.nz. I’m not such a fan of this one – too many colours and a bit crowded.
The site lists candidates and policies. The policies section is more a rehash of what they have done with a lot of “We will continue” rather than anything new, but it is a start.

You forgot the taxpayer funded http://www.thestandard.org.nz that adds another to the list.

Is the authoriser of the website the same Mike Smith that likes to chop down landmark pine trees?
September 16th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
David,
At some point can you put a list together of the party sites that are taxpayer funded? Would be interesting to see who is sucking the taxpayer teat for web services.
I’ve checked just National’s and ACT’s and they appear to be totally party funded.

Different Mike Smith.
September 16th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Come on DPF you could start the rumour
September 16th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
This is also a Labour one http://www.kiwivote.co.uk/ and authorised by Mike Smith. It pretends a little to be impartial and then WHAMMO it reeks of Labour.

What gave it away? The Labour logo in the top left corner???
September 16th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
yeah yeah…:) I know. Ha ha ha.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
You get another thumbs up from me for that gazzaj

Why does Labour need donations? Don’t they just put their hand in the till and help themselves to taxpayer money, again.
September 16th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Look at this inspiring quote from Paul Chalmers, standing (electorate only) in Whangarei:
“I believe that the National Party will simply serve the interests of the already wealthy and ignore the aspirations of those less well off. Labour, to a more or less degree, seeks to ensure the more damaging effects of the ‘free market’ are mitigated by progressive social interventions.”
More or less? What it it’s less? Wrong party Paul?
Why does ‘free market’ have quote marks around it? Does Paul think it is a mythical concept?
September 16th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
http://www.kiwivote.co.uk/ is also a little behind the times.
Personally, I don’t think you should have a vote at all if you aren’t in the country on election night.
September 16th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
What is the carbon footprint of all these Labour sites? Should the MfE be notified?
September 16th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Colonel Masters says at 10:17 pm:
That’s half the fun of quitting New Zealand and never having to pay an additional single cent in taxes to a CORRUPT LABOUR GOVERNMENT.
You get to swing both middle fingers at Hels and Sullen from the comfort and safety of a high pay, low tax environment. Nothing quite like payback.
September 17th, 2008 at 1:07 am
OECD – yeah you know it!! I have not paid this Labour Government since 2003
Fuck ‘em.
September 17th, 2008 at 2:17 am
That’s the spirit clintheine!!
Sadly I didn’t crystallise the critical nature of the time/cost decision I needed to make until after the 2005 election when I realised the urgent need to put a stop loss order in regarding taxes paid to Hels and Sullen. Better late than never.

That’s nice for you guys but for some of us hard working, tax paying, business owning, family people, who actually like living in NZ, (apart from the taxes and the socialists), we don’t have quite the same freedom to wander off. That leads us with the dilemma that we have paid to fund your nice lifestyle whilst you got yourself educated. So how about sending us a cheque for about three times your education costs and of course you could chip in a bit for your health care as well, oh yes and don’t forget about the other overheads we have paid for you.
Most importantly don’t forget to vote these ugly socialists out but be careful who you vote for because the other socialists to the right might not have enough fortitude to really make a difference.
Your Party Vote ACT will.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:31 am
oh come now viking, youve had a quality inflow of taxi drivers, refugees, sickness beneficaries and extended families running tax loss LAQC property investment businesses whilst taking out student loans that are never repaid when the whole family upsticks and doesnt repay the education loans or the tax bill (while granny got a hip op and daughter had three kids on the system)
September 17th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Of course you have the freedom to walk away from Clarkistan. I found it awfully easy and I am not a wealthy man by any stretch of the imagination. I am still paying off my student loan and as I am paying my taxes to the British and Czech Governments they are taking care of my health and pension for me – so I am no drain on the NZ taxpayers
I enrolled to vote yesterday and my party vote will be for ACT, as it has been since 1996. That is my present to you all

expat, do you think PD is smiling in that picture because the fella behind him is giving him a reach around?
or is it the sheer joy of being married to hatchet face?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:15 am
DR.R – please, I almost sprayed my Rioja all over the screen.
A/ Reach around.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Dr Robotnik: classic
By the way – what does John Key’s wife look like? I haven’t seen any pictures of her.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:19 am
I *think* she doesn’t have a gay mans beard.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:27 am
The red isn’t a really bright red? so its the same colour that they painted Dc Sullens new train set, with our money.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:36 am
Im a little confused. Carson stated in interviews that he was a consultant to the Labour campaign, there on his own steam and the campaign will not be involving his agency.
Yet when looking at the source code of the labour08.org.nz site, the author is FRESCO – Carson’s agency from what i understand.
Why would you bother lieing about that?
September 17th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Also worth noting that by looking through the source code, you can see a number of pages and navigation items that have been commented out and will be unhidden as the campaign continues.
Great way to giveaway your web strategy:
Campaign Trail
MyLabour
Speeches
LabourTV Archive
Funstuff
Links
‘Mylabour’ – looking at that I would imagine they will be launching some sort of user generated content.
Very sloppy.

You can have a first glimpse at these pages and keep track of them before they are released if you like:

Nothing on them yet, but no doubt over the next week or so there will be.

“Of course you have the freedom to walk away from Clarkistan. I found it awfully easy and I am not a wealthy man by any stretch of the imagination. I am still paying off my student loan and as I am paying my taxes to the British and Czech Governments…..”
HEY! Clint, Vaclav Klaus is my favorite world leader, I’d seriously consider the Czech Republic if I flee Clarkistan myself one day……….
September 17th, 2008 at 11:35 am
At least they’ll get the message that they can’t take a dump this time without it being made public within minutes.
Yeah thats right Helen, we’re all watching YOU.
It aint fun but it needs to be done.
September 17th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Even “The Standard” are criticising the design.
