Wellington sticks with STV – just

The voter turnout was a low 33.2%, and the the votes for STV was 50.54% and FPP 49.46%.
Put another way, 16.73% of Wellington City residents voted for STV and 16.37% for FPP.

If only we could hope for such a low turnout in the main election; IE of only those who have actually paid any attention to what they are voting for…

This is a good result. STV is a great system for local govt because it makes sure all major groups in the community get representation, in the fairest possible way. It works well for local govt in NZ because we don’t have parties involved (or not much) and it gets the best individuals elected.

Many of those who actively campaigned to keep STV were the same people who campaigned to introduce the EFA.
I’m not saying this to attack STV, I actually support STV, but I would like to point out these people’s hypocracy.
I saw plenty of advertising supporting keeping STV, none of it authorised.
Vote:Of course there’s no legal requirement for it to be authorised.
But apparently transparency and openness only applies to general elections, not to local issues.
