It would be even simpler than that. All national needs to do is slip an additional question in about abolishing the Maori seats with the Anti-smacking law question next year. What are the odds that 90% of New Zealander who respond to the referendum say “See ya” to the Maori Seats? Hey presto, the people have spoken, the Maori seats are gone, the Left vomit into their mouths yet some more.

It’s really simple on 9 November; all Rodney needs to say to John Key is that if he wants to be Prime Minister of a stable government then he had better appoint Rodger Douglas as Finance minister. Alternatively he can go cap in hand for every piece of legislation National wants to pass and negotiate with such stable elements of New Zealand’s political spectrum as the Maori party and the Greens.

The last time was 1999, when Jenny Shipley was Prime Minister and Wyatt Creech was Deputy Prime Minister. Those were good, prosperous times. Here’s hope we’ll see their return soon.

If so, National need not wait for the treaty issues to be resolved – it can act on the advice of the electoral commission and abolish the Maori seats before Christmas (presuming they do win a 50% + 1 majority). If that is the case, and were it to happen, would the then current parliament be in crisis for having 7 seats that no longer exist or would the law be changed to abolish them from the next election? Frankly – this sounds pretty darned good to me!

Don’t forget that this is unscientific, and only accounts for 10x a normal poll.

What a dream government that would be! Our two top positions held by men of integrity – when was the last time we saw THAT in a government in New Zealand? Rodney (with Roger behind the scenes) would be a brilliant deputy. In fact, he would be a brilliant PM! Some years ago when Richard Prebble left the ACT party, we (the members) got to vote for the new leader. I voted for Stephen Franks because I knew him and he was a great clear-headed guy. I was annoyed that Rodney won – but I have completely reversed my position now. Rodney has more integrity than the majority of the parliament put together and, having seen him speak publicly, is a man with a great future here.

Party vote ACT! I really believe that ACT will surpass 5% – they are polling brilliantly on the various news sites and the reason they are low in the phone polls is that so many people who support their policies are so busy they don’t have time to answer the phone and answer questions from a complete stranger. But on election day – they will be at the polls!

I completely agree – unfortunately I think Ryall comes across as arrogant – which is fine – but I think the average kiwi watching the news will warm much more to Heather than Tony when the Ministry is re-organised and fixed up. And frankly, Heather deserves some kudos for her efforts. It is absolutely clear to me that she loves this country and has been a great asset in parliament. We had coffee together a couple of weeks ago and she is an amazingly passionate and friendly woman – we need more women like her in government – it would certainly be a breath of fresh air to the vile bitter harpies that Labour has on board.
