Helen Clark forgot to advise that the first H Fee was transacted in january 1988 between Elders and BNZ ( Sydney Branch ).
BNZ was owned by the Labour Government of the time which she was a senior minister in. She was technically involved in the transaction and John Key was nowhere near the transaction.

Why wasn't that reported in the NZ Herald article and others since.

When the TWO really really big stories about Crazy break then the Socialists 'neutron bomb" will be but a storm in a very small teacup.

MFAT are really really pissed off about the way Simon M has been treated by Liugi and Crazy and are out for revenge big time.

When a Minister or a PM trash a Department Head that is popular with the troops they risk a backlash.

Come on Brin are you surprised to hear that Helen has used a tax payer research unit for dirt digging missions? Personally I wouldn't be surprised to hear Helen unleashed the SIS to fuel her last gasp at retaining power.

I see this in the Herald this morning:

"Labour president Mike Williams spent several days last week reading court documents in Melbourne, backed up by Wellington-based members of the party research unit."

That would be the tax-payer funded Labour research unit? And would the costs of flying them to Melbourne and their accommodation count as an election expense?

I'd also be genuinely interested if someone more knowledgeable than me could comment on whether it is appropriate for someone on the Boards that Mike Williams is on to be travelling overseas on dirt-digging missions targeting leading NZ politicians.

What does John Armstrong do for the Herald. Did he get that job by default? His editorial still tries to trash John Key because he can't remember what happened 20 years ago. He truly is the "Shallow Man" during this election.

fascinating...

I have just heard from someone that apparantly it was someone usually seen associated with Mr English who leaked this to Labour a couple of years ago.

Politics......you always have to watch your own side more closely than those on the other bench.

John here says regarding the 2nd H-fee transaction " But the the interesting thing, Key said at the time, was that if he had still been working at Elders, it would likely have been him, not Richards, with whom Jarrett would have met that day." [source: NZ Herald]

While John here has totally forgotten that he was still working for Elders when the first H-fee transaction took place.

Hmmmm....... shades of Geoffrey Palmer, Michael Moore leadership challenge here.

Has Bill English's time finally come?

John here wants New Zealanders to be protected from the greed and excesses of wall street bankers.
While John here can't quite remember the fact that he left Elders 6 months AFTER H-fee was paid not 6 months BEFORE.

Or that he was having lunch with his successor when said successor was called away to discuss the 2nd payment.

The Natural Party of Government....still able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

"Helen Clark claims she can’t remember when she was first briefed on Owen Glenn’s wishes to be made Consul - a relatively recent event, and a pretty significant issue."

My guess is Helen Clark is being economical with the truth in regards to a providing an unpaid meaningless vanity diplomatic post as a quid pro quo for a donation. Not necessarily in the finest westminister tradition but firmly in the tradition of cash for peerages that we know so well from Britain.

Mr Key is being economical with the truth in regards to New Zealand's largest financial fraud case and it appears that he has committed perjury - and possibly perjury to protect a former colleague.

That is a completely different order of magnitude.
