Where’s Winston?

October 14th, 2008 at 3:08 pm by David Farrar

We’re in Tauranga and driving in have yet to see a single Winston billboard or hoarding.

Saw nine Simon Bridges ones driving in. A couple of Labour. Even saw Greens, and Kiwi Party. And saw one for Peter Brown.

But not a single hoarding yet for Winston. Why?

And over in Hamilton, saw NZ First hoardings for Doug Woolerton and unlike all the other years, no photo of Winston. Have they worked out he is now a negative brand?

Anyway we are heading into the CBD now, trying to find a photo of Winston or even better, the man himself. Or failing Winston, we’ll try visiting that nice Tommy Gear’s place. After all Winston officially lives with Tommy.

I got as far as the title and thought “who cares?” and moved on to more interesting things.

    As should all voters.

The one and only bright light in NZF has been Ron Mark. I have huge respect for him and I hope that after the election, when it is almost certain that NZF will be dog tucker, he seeks a new home in National.

The answer to this question is a bit like the answer to: “Where shall we put the rubbish dump/prison/toxic waste facility?”, namely:

“Who cares, as long as its not in my neighbourhood.”

    Things to do in Tauranga:

Go to Mills Reef Winery for a taste or two
Camp by the beach under the Mount (Mauao)
Soak up the hot pools at night looking at the stars
Talk a walk up to the top of Mauao and watch the sunset with a bottle of something decent
Eat fish and chips on the beach – or have a bbq at one of the spots provided
    Go sail carting at Papamoa
Drink at every pub along the Strand

Has he had to leave because the house is being sold?

Best way to find him is to tap a bauble against a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label. He should come running if he hears that.

lolpolitishanz, classic. Funny and probably true. I wonder what percentage of Winston voters drive so as to even see billboards?

I drove around town a couple of time today – no Winston.
But then, at 5’6″ Winston hardly stands out in the crowd, even with his platform shoes.
But then, he isn’t in Tauranga much anyway – no young female journo/interviewers to bully, no-one around saying “Good onyer,Winnie”, and probably most people saying “Piss off”.
Mind you, there have been two new retirement homes opened in the last year or so – maybe he’s drumming up support there ‘cos even though he was there last week, they’ve forgotten – or maybe looking for somewhere to stay. Who’d know?

  23. peterwn (2,165) Says:

Perhaps he is saving them for the last few weeks. He has all the name recognition he needs so he probably does not need to saturate his electorate with billboards.

In the last election he used quite small ones (about 1.5m x 0.8m or so) showing him looking as if he was looking to see if he had stepped on dog droppings.
