Kiwis in London

November 7th, 2008 at 3:09 pm by David Farrar

If you’re in and looking for a place to watch the election, there’s an Election Day Champagne Brunch being held on Saturday at 10am downstairs at The Southerner pub, near Temple tube. A plasma screen has been specially wired up to watch coverage via the Internet.

Supporters from all parties are welcomed and expected. The event has been organised by the Kiwi Greens in London.

Afterwards there’s the opportunity to watch the end of the Lord Mayor’s procession which passes by outside The Southerner; the Lord Mayor’s show finishes with a firework display at 5pm from a barge moored in the Thames.

Saturday 8th November, 10am – 2pm

The Southerner, Essex Street, Temple, WC2R 1AP http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Essex+Street%2C+Temple%2C+WC2R+1AP%2C+London%2C+United+Kingdom

Typical Australians. The US votes and we get 12 hours solid on one free-to-air channel and constant detailed updates on most of the others. NZ votes and we get zip. I mean, hello? Next door neighbour, major trading partner, lots of expats? remember us, we’re that little island to the east you arrogant jingositic twerps!!

Except on Sky News, but I don’t have Foxtel because I’m buggered if I’ll pay $37 a month for sports channels I’ll never watch and movies I couldn’t be bothered going to the cinema to see in the first place. Which means I won’t see any election coverage :-(

Here’s hoping the online stuff will be good, and TVNZ won’t pull that “only available to viewers in NZ” bullshit they do with TVNZ OnDemand.

ACT appears to have wooed a great deal of UK-based Kiwis – good old Matt Ball has done the hard yards yet again!

Naa mate, we are 13 hours behind so Saturday at 10am will be 11pm in NZ, by then you’d know who the new Govt is.

I have not seen Matt Ball over here Buggerlugs…. but the ACT campaign over here has been ok, no big events or anything that we have seen. I managed to throw a few leaflets out, but it would have been nice to have an MP or somebody over here! Although I did a little bit of campaigning when Nicki Kaye came over :)

Voted last Saturday, another small nail in Helens coffin!

Hosted by the Greens you say. The place had better be well deodorised then. ;-)

So they are the people responsible for spamming my house with vote green postcards.

It was ironic as I had just voted at NZ House when I came home and found them lying amongst curry takeaway and mini cab fliers. Straight to the bin.

The life of the London Kiwi, living in East Acton:

Go to a shite job every day.

    Live with pathetic Kiwis.

Get drunk and make use of the cheap drugs as much as possible.

    Party party party!

    E’sssss and Coke!

    The Fridge! The Church!

Oh sheet we missed the vote!

    Oh I am sooo depressed!

    Fuck, more rain!

Eww, who’d want to live in East Acton?

Rob – you a little bitter that your leaky East Acton flat didn’t give you solace from your shit job and your Nat voting Kiwi flatmates who probably (and rightfully) gave you grief for voting Green. The depression you got from that was made worse by the dodgy £2 E you got from the dealer up the road who laced it with speed, meaning your weekends were ruined and you never made it to see the strippers at the Church and so had to please yourself alone in your room….if you could find your penis after doing all that E. :)

    Ha ha ha.

If you’re a kiwi in London, piss off and mind your own bloody business. If you’re not going to have to live with the consequences of your decisions then keep your damn opinions to yourself.

I include three cousins and one brother in this direction.

Its worth it Rex just so you can view balanced and fair reporting on FOX news. Given your desperate and self destructive addiction to liberalism, you’ll find it especially therapeutic.

Awwww Murray – I voted last weekend and I did it for you, Sonic and Robert. To make it a better place for my return. And I read your latest post and it looks like we voted the same. :)

Nice one Robert, I like your ability to take a joke :) I’m just about to head to the pub, it’s early though, but a 9am celebratory beer would go down very well right now!
