With the fact that they only managed to achieve just over 6% of the vote, and no electorate seats, they came close to total oblivion. They really need to drop their social-engineering programs, ditch Locke, Bradford etc, and regroup as a purely environmental group that can work on either the left or the right.

Er David, you’re getting a bit overly concerned with this. Chances are they treat it like a donkey all of the time, but chances are they’ve also given it a name… & 40 years is pretty impressive & the party would mostly have been for them, realising that the donkey wouldn’t really care.

They probably made up the birthdate, if it wasn’t printed on her papers & vet record, I’d have no idea what my dog’s birthday was.

I find that I get along better with dogs if I work on the basis that they think I’m just a big two-legged relatively-hairfree dog and deal with them as if we were both part of a pack. The donkey doesn’t understand the concept of birthdays any more than the dogs Stephen mentioned understand why they’re being dressed up. So if you want to invite a few mates around to drink beer and sit on your donkey, then go for it… you don’t need a special day to do that. But to celebrate a donkey’s birthday is just odd.

I dunno, there’s quite a lot of them will be seated opposite Key, English et al in the new parliament.

I’d add people who buy outfits for their tiny tiny dogs. I can see celebrating your donkey’s birthday as some sort of half-arsed excuse to get on the turps/organic wine though.

Especially a donkey that made it to 40! I don’t know, but I’d be surprised if they had a party every year (that said, I do know some people who have a big outdoor birthday party for their dog Bingo every year.), but I think many would for the big occasions, presuming you know how old your donkey is. 40 IS impressive.

At a guess, maybe it is because they held a birthday party for the donkey. I hope I’m not the only person who thinks that is at least a little strange. Sort of like people who give their cars human names.
