Hypocrisy Watch

NZUSA is quoted in The Press:
The rise in compulsory add-on fees at tertiary institutions is under fire from the New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations.
Hmmn, compulsory add-on fees – such as oh all those compulsory student association fees that NZUSA fights so hard to defend.
I’m sure what NZUSA meant is they’re against rises in compulsory add-on fees, except those done by student associations.

Given how much various bodies take off me combared to what I get the student union represents the worst value for money. I include the previous labour government. This is like a mugger holding his hand out for a tip.
A slice of “shut the hell up” pie for NZUSA please.

I note the OECD says we offer vastly more student support than the OECD average.. and underfund our universities something chronic.
We must be getting close to a position where it would be realistic and much cheaper to close the universities, force genuine students to go overseas for such education and offer them a five year $10,000 annual bonus if they come back and get a suitable job.

As a rule of thumb, any organisation that uses “Union” in its title should be ignored.
December 27th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
You mean like
Womens Christian Temperance Union?
NZ Rugby Union?
Any Credit Union?
What about the Baptist Union? The Congregational Union?
How abouit Ocean Union Enterprises?
Have you heard of The Scripture Union?
You know, I find as a rule of thumb, people who make sweeping generalisations should be ignored. They’re generally idiots.

Was it just a fishing expedition to push my buttons? You twat. In order to compile it, you’d have to make sweeping generalisations based on my login name.
Pot, meet kettle.

Sounds like a case for ending compulsory student association fees right now. Another dividend from a National/ACT win.

“You know, I find as a rule of thumb, people who make sweeping generalisations should be ignored. They’re generally idiots.”

December 28th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Is it compulsory for the Universities to raise course fees above inflation every year also? Or are we just here to pick on the Student Unions?
Spose its just market forces, so I shouldnt complain.
