I am not sure this has been well thought out, those who have done the prudent thing and put some savings away or those who have been saving for a home are going to get nothing while those who have splashed out their cash will get a hand out from the tax payer.

Once again the message we get from the government is don’t save for your retirement or don’t worry about personal responsibility as the government will bail you out.

The whole package strikes me as odd.

Why not asses individual needs, rather than making it open slather (up to a point).

So farrar gets made redundant, gets 25k payout and has 7900 in bank and qulaifies for the “relief”.

Poor old billy gets 25,100 payout, has nothing in the bank and misses out.

Is the eligibility for these payouts to be back-dated and do they apply to those made redundant by the ballot box?

This is the type of package that Labour would put out. I don’t understand why labour are criticizing this.

Is there a rule in politics, to always deride opposition ideas even those you agree with?
