Obama mania
January 29th, 2009 at 5:30 pm by David FarrarGod I am getting sick of almost 24/7 coverage of everything Obama does. Don’t get me wrong – I have no criticism of the job he is doing to date. But the media fixation is just so over the top.
Ian Wishart reminds us that Reagan’s inauguration in 1981 got a 37% TV share compared to 29% for Obama. But Reagan didn’t have the media report on his first ten days with near hourly updates.
As one example, the NZ Herald has done 103 stories mentioning Barack Obama from Inauguration Day last Wednesday to today. 103 stories in nine days.

If I may quote David Rees’ Get Your War On again:
Girl: Have you seen those videos of people lined up outside McCain/Palin rallies? Jesus.
Guy: What, you don’t think the folks screaming “Barack Osama” and “Go back to Kenya” are the types of forward-thinking optimists that made America a great place?
Girl: I think you mean, “that made America a great place TO OWN SLAVES.”

I was asked the other day if I’d got up to watch the inauguration. I asked why I would when I’d never watched any other presidents inauguration. I just don’t get the fascination. Great rhetoric but I’ll judge him on as achievements.

Sounds like someone needs a lesson in who were the slave owners, who lost the Civil War, and who introduced and held to the Jim Crow and other segregation laws.

The one good thing about wall to wall coverage about Barack Hussein Obama is that the expectation levels of his ability to solve everything are skyrocketing through the roof. Once reality starts to bite the electoral backlash will be phenomenal.
Never before has someone so average been hype so much by so many.

Yooo wot?
If the economy of the most powerful country in the world fell over, that would be a price well worth paying just to prove some point about the relative merits of moderate left vs moderate right political ideologies???!? Or are you talking about some other potential failure?
OMFG!

I am interested in the blatant racism (a word i don’t usually use) on this site. Quite frankly even though I would have preferred Ron Paul I don’t want Obama to fail.
Exactly what did bush do? and before you say no terrorist have attacked the US since 9/11 well I would say police states have that effect.
I don’t believe in the socialist economics that is taking place but then how many billions were given by Bush and his cronies to his cronies

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between the current Battlestar Galactica and US presidential politics?
President Laura Roslin seems to be very much a character based on George Bush. She managed the fall out from an act of terror in a pragmatic fashion. At various times she has obtained information from Cylons by dunking their heads in water. She has detained Cylons without trial, has ignored the colonial quorum, has plotted the use of weapons of mass destruction, has ordered executions without trial, has banned some religious groups, and has made a number of other decisions that skirt democratic process. However, she would justify this by the need to keep the fleet safe.
Baltar, on the other hand, is a charismatic speaker who is currently the object of worship to a large group of vacuous followers who think he is some sort of god. He may be cleverer than Roslin, but often there is little of substance behind his words, except as is required to advance Baltar’s own situation. I can’t believe that the writers haven’t modeled him on Obama… it can’t just be coincidence.

I hope Obama fails to implement his policies. Obama is a snake oil salesman with plans to increase taxes and redistribute wealth. In other words, he is a socialist. In any case, no politician of any stripe is worthy of the fawning obsequiousness that is defined by the media and all the other deadbeat losers towards Obama.
Bill.

Where’s the birth certificate, Mr Hussein-Obama?
What we want or don’t want is relevant. He is a socialist. He is predestined to fail. If only the American people had fought back harder in November and not glumly accepted the election result.

People put ten times as much effort into moving away from pain as they do into moving toward pleasure.
You can see that in the stock market and you can see that in every individual.
All of this is merely a reaction against the negative experience of the Bush years and for those who still support him, get real.
What’s really interesting is that this collective sigh of relief is not just confined to the US but appears to be global.
Personally I don’t think Obama is going to be that great, if he’s allowed to survive, although he’s making some encouraging reversals of some of the worst aspects of the Bush policies, but that’s a debate for another thread.
It’s interesting though that people are still using the antique left-right dynamics to analyse the politics. When will they ever learn, when will they eeeeeeever learrrrrrn????

Did anyone see the film of Obama trying vainly to open the door to his office only to discover it was a window? Probably not because practically zero play was given to the clip. unlike when Bush had trouble with a door in China and it got wall to wall coverage with the implied wisdom that Bush was too dumb to open a door. Couldn’t say that about the Messiah though. Might tarnish his image.

How ironic that YOU have taken a comment about news coverage and assumed that either Obama only gets that coverage (and his job?) because of his colour, or that DPF is only pissed off about the amount of coverage because of Obama’s colour.
How many people commenting on this site have mentioned his race? count them…..0 nome.
Who’s the racist nome? Perhaps the person who ONLY sees colour where others are commenting on his politics, hypocricay and the amount of favourable coverage he recieves.

CraigM – Right wing racism has been forced into the the dark covert sphere by the ascendancy of left-wing progressive humanitarianism. Of course DPF isn’t going to mention Obama’s colour – that would be socially unacceptable in NZ’s public sphere. Shrewd people with racial prejudices will criticise everything about someone of colour, accept their colour – are you really so ignorant that you aren’t aware of this? I mean, come on, don’t be so naive.

Note to Kiwibloggers: by not mentioning someones race, you are being racist.
Nome, does that apply to any comment about anyone? I mean, if someone comments negatively about me and doesn’t mention that I’m white, are they really just being racist?
If I make a positive comment about someone and don’t mention their race/colour am I being racist then too?
e.g Obama is a fantastic Orator. Not racist?
e.g Obama will be a disaster because of his socialist ideals. Racist?

I know I’ve already posted this, but as DPF raises the subject; THIS was Ann Coulter’s take:
“…….Here’s a small sampling of the churlishness in just The New York Times:
– The American public is bemused by the tasteless show-biz extravaganza surrounding Barack Obama’s inauguration today.
– There is something to be said for some showiness in an inauguration. But one felt discomfited all the same.
– This is an inauguration, not a coronation.
– Is there a parallel between Mrs. Obama’s jewel-toned outfit and somebody else’s glass slippers? Why limousines and not shank’s mare?
It is still unclear whether we are supposed to shout “Whoopee!” or “Shame!” about the new elegance the Obamas are bringing to Washington.
Boy, talk about raining on somebody’s parade! These were not, of course, comments about the inauguration of the angel Obama; they are (slightly edited) comments about the inauguration of another historic president, Ronald Reagan, in January 1981…..”
Hmmmmm……….

The current Obama outpourings remind me of the early Mandela administration. The blacks had totally unrealistic expectations of Mandela and wound up very disaapointed.
The same will happen with the yanks In 6 to 9 months time with the economy still heading south in a big way black and white liberal America will begin to turn on him and see him as a failure.
Vote:January 30th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
I know it’s historic and all that, but the irony is that by making such a big deal about Obama being the first black president of the USA – they actually draw attention to race. Which is exactly what Dr King didn’t want.
The whole ‘black president’ thing is just an excuse for the left to have a love-fest.
After all – anyone who watches Deep Space Nine will be accustomed to have a black guy in charge

A spokesperson for the group known as “CraigM” commented that “for far to long the PC left have been using allegations of violence against our gang … i mean organisation, as a tool to bludgeon good upstanding neo-nazis. Well we’re her to say, this nonsense has got to stop”.
