Testing new comments features Add this story to Scoopit!.

One should be able to nest comments now, and also have it split long threads up into pages of 50.

Should there be a “reply to this comment” button?

  4. David Farrar (1,560) Says:

I would have thought so. Best I read the manual :-)

  5. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

Have you activated it in your admin options after you installed it?

    [DPF: Yes]

  6. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    DPF:

    Is the long-thread-split optional?

I raise this, as I (and several others, apparently – PhilBest seems to be one guy having the same trouble) seem to be having periodic problems viewing Kiwiblog pages. In my case at least, it sometimes locks up in the Adsfac and Google-Analytics, and I’ve no idea why. I’ve no problem with you incorporating advertising into your blog, but just wondering if there are some technical issues in the code. So, in my case at least, it’s nice to minimise the number of page loads. Any thoughts?

  7. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

Is there the possibility for individual users to ‘cloak’ comments from nutters like Jastowns, Philu, Mickey Savage, Spoff, and cha?

    iii.co.uk has this facility.

The retards can still waste time posting but the individual user never sees the Trolling nonsense.

  8. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

    Or an ignore function.

    Hahhhahahahahahah.

Sorry. I just imagined this site with everyone ignoring everyone they disagreed with. A wolf howled in the distance.

  9. goodgod (1,363) Says:

this new ignore feature is great! Can someone tell Ryan Sproull and Philu that i can’t hear them anymore.

  10. dad4justice (7,339) Says:

I have installed a billy borker blocker so I can’t view his sewage rhetoric.

    Ryan

Consider it done, can you do the same for me please with D4J.

This place will be all the better for it.

  13. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

DPF, Looks like you are on a winner there!!

How lovely to be able to ‘Cloak’ all the Trite, Contemptable, Egocentric claptrap from the usual ‘Band of Bros’.

Even better if there is a Highlght facility to the best, most sensible comment per thread based on Karma Scores!

    What an Xmas present.

  14. stephen (4,058) Says:

I could see how many ‘most sensible comment awards’ i hoover up with comments like ‘Helen Clark sure did suck’!

  15. Harpoon (77) Says:

“Even better if there is a Highlght facility to the best, most sensible comment per thread based on Karma Scores”

The trouble is, the “best, most sensible” comments are not necessarily the ones that get the top Karma Scores, since the nutters often auto-thumbs-down any comments by people they identify as opposing their world view.

Incedentally, using Firefox, I see no facility to nest and thread comments. Is it my browser or am I doing something wrong?

  16. side show bob (3,645) Says:

I think this will seriously weaken Kiwiblog. Sounds like the ignore feature will have many listening to none. I know that most of the time we don’t see eye to eye or get pissed off with what some are saying but surly if we don’t listen to all, even what we consider to be stupid comments then we really don’t believe in free speech. Look at all the misery in the world at the moment a lot of these problems arise because we have failed to listen to each other. I will not be hitting the ignore button.

  17. dad4justice (7,339) Says:

I hope your ignore button works big blouse? Firefox doesn’t use such crap.

  18. Brian Smaller (3,409) Says:

How do you quote somebody so it is nicely indented with the highlighted background (as per Harpon’s comment at 8:18pm above)?

  19. stephen (4,058) Says:

So does ‘nest’ actually mean an ignore button? Can’t see anything in Firefox or IE…

If I did sadly succumb to an ignore button I probably wouldn’t come here any more – what would be the point?! Would have to do something halfway productive, or go troll at NotPC.

The trouble is, the “best, most sensible” comments are not necessarily the ones that get the top Karma Scores, since the nutters often auto-thumbs-down any comments by people they identify as opposing their world view.

Yeah, it’s pretty much useless, which is why I tend to laugh at the naive or delicate little flowers who take offence/satisfaction from karma scores.

    Good stuff from SSB there!

  20. joeAverage (311) Says:

Damn i look good looking at myself in a mirrow , opps off post

  21. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

Helen may suck, but pretty sure she never blows!

    ;-0

  22. stephen (4,058) Says:

I think your only redeeming feature is the tendency to accuse Redbaiter of being a homosexual Labour party plant…

  23. Christopher (421) Says:

DPF: Your theme probably needs the code inserted in the comments template, unless the plugin says it will do it automatically.

Even if it does, it would still need to be styled.

  24. Patrick Starr (3,662) Says:

“The trouble is, the “best, most sensible” comments are not necessarily the ones that get the top Karma Scores, since the nutters often auto-thumbs-down any comments by people they identify as opposing their world view”

I think perhaps he feels he has been unfairly judged? maybe he should run his best comment again and we can reassess it with a high degree of objectivity………
    (LOL)

  25. Harpoon (77) Says:

I note my earlier comment (that the “best, most sensible” comments are not necessarily the ones that get the top Karma Scores) has aquired 3 negative scores. This is evidence of the problem with your suggestion, DPF, since in my post there was nothing that could be said to be wrong, offensive, unfair, unethical or reprehensible. Yet three people have seen fit to give the post a thumbs-down.

    Glutaemus Maximus:

Helen may suck, but pretty sure she never blows!

That reminds me of something Richard Prebble said some time back in the late 90s when he was asked to comment as Wellington Central MP on Wellington’s weather. He shot back with: “the trouble with this town is, it’s wetaher sucks and blows at the same time”.

  26. expat (3,684) Says:

Look inside yourself son, the answer lies with your true intentions.

  27. Steve (2,158) Says:

    David,
    “Best I read the manual”
We all know that the manual is only the manufacturers opinion.

Btw can we get rid of that bork bork bork troller?
Is the bork the last of the incumbent Liarbour? I think not.

  28. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

Redbaiter is much more entertaining than you Stephen!

You sit there sniping in the shadows, yet you really have no declared view.

    Probably another XXy person.

FFS the leftie liberal ranks are full of them.

Or xYY woman, lke the Beast with a Skirt.

    The outrageous Bully Bitch H2.

Good Riddance to a Freak Show Headliner!

  29. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

FFS, Just seen that I am nearly the same age as Gay Gordon Brown.

    Ahhhhhhhh!

No wonder all those kids have different views from me.

  30. stephen (4,058) Says:

Redbaiter is much more entertaining than you Stephen!

That your way of telling me I don’t get to host the Oscars?

I’m happy sniping, very little worth commenting extensively on these days…takes time too.

  31. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

    Brian Smaller,

I told you this the other day. Go here: http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_blockquote.asp

For nice quoting with indent and stuff.
