Sevens photos
February 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pm by David FarrarLot of photos in different places. First we have the NZ Herald. They have a 13 cool photos, including this one below:

That is a great set of costumes, and quite easy to do.
Then the Dom Post has a collection of 29 photos, with several excellent ones below:

Even the shoes match!

They must be Irish!
Also the Dom Post has a story and photo of the Watt Family, who are regulat attendees, headed up by their 71 year old patriarch.

Scoop also has some photos of the parade yesterday. They normally have photos from the event itself, and I’ll link to them when they do.

Have a great weekend, would love to go to the sevens one day but the cows would miss me to much. Off to friends 25th surprise wedding anniversary, poor buggers.

what I really find wrong is that a ref can virtually determine to cup final by a silly decision of a red card in the round robin.
In 15′s you can get away with a red card- man down. In sevens you have sealed their fate. Cama may have retaliated but check out the before and after the punch from the welsh. To add a yellow card 1 minute later, so it’s 2 players down is just ridiculous
If they want to wreck 7’s then red cards should only be for the very worst of offences

Somehow the whole Wellington sevens phenomenon repels me. The sport is fine, but this fatuous dressing up and getting paralytic just goes over my head. I enjoy booze in moderation, but these posturing idiots leering at the camera and their gang flashing gang hand gestures need a whack around the ears.

You’re kidding right?….who the hell goes to the 7′s to watch the rugby?
When I get home this afternoon from work I will watch the coverage from the comfort of my lazyboy, once again the Mrs will say to me “we really should go to that next year” and once again I will agree, I have watched the 7′s for the last four years and I am yet to see a game, as soon as they cut away from the crowd shots and start covering the actual rugby I change channels.
IMHO the organisers should do away with the actual rugby and just host a two day piss up.

This is the tenth year of the Wellington Sevens.
For the tenth straight year, everyday Kiwis will dress up and go to the Sevens.
For the tenth straight year, people will watch on TV.
For the tenth straight year, people will cheer and drink a lot of beer.
For the tenth straight year, their is the rumour that the NZRFU will play modeling companies around the country, to dress up models and send them to the game, and then instruct TVNZ to focus their cameras on the models, thus giving a glamor impression to the Sevens.
And for the tenth straight year, NZ Journos who are aware of this rumour of viral marketing will shut up and say nothing.
Still if your a rugby union fan it must be fun.

“You’re kidding right?….who the hell goes to the 7’s to watch the rugby?”
Who goes? Oddly enough, all the specators at every other venue for the sevens around the world except Wellington. Hong Kong, Dubai, wherever. the crowds turn out to watch the rugby. “Titch” is a world class sports coach and the NZ team has been a consistently high achiever, winning the championship more often than it has lost.
I saw a guy wearing a T-shirt yesterday that said “A weekend wasted is not a wasted weekend.” It might have been mildly amusing if he had not then got into a car with two young kids in the back and driven off. To me this captured the spirit of the Wellington 7s. As a country we lament our binge drinking culture, and its heritage of bashed or neglected kids, then we have this crazy festival that celebrates the very same thing.
I agree with you that it should be separated from the sport though. Perhaps they could hold the party aspect of it somewhere like Mana island where the exhibitionists could do what they like for three days. Preferably without cameras. :-/

Why not play the rugby on Mana Island, nobody really cares who wins anyway.
Tell me, does it really piss you off THAT MUCH to see people enjoying themselves?

“As a country we lament our binge drinking culture,”
Balls!
As a country we do no such thing.
The fun police, pc dickheads and brainless slime have fastened on to the label “binge drinking culture” because they think it will allow them another chance to stop normal people enjoying themselves while they suffer through their own joyless and meaningless existences.
BB, I’m with you. Do away with the froth and concentrate on good honest booze lubricated fun.
Among other things it would give the humourless ones something else to tut tut over.

BB, I guess my difficulty is that I can’t equate the fatuous nonsense I see on TV as “fun”.
MT_T Your definition of “normal” differs from mine, as do the many things that bring a great deal of joy and meaning to my life.
Despite my non comprehension, if it gives you pleasure, enjoy it by all means.

Believe it or not I can appreciate where you are coming from, I feel the same about the game of Rugby league, the people who play it and 99.9% of the people who watch it.
If I had my way I would drop a small nuke just above the half way line at the Warriors first home game, just think of the good it would do the country, in one swoop we could just about wipe out crime, 99.9% of the criminals, a huge percentage of the beneficiaries and rid the nation of the brain dead game that is Rugby League.
Of course it might make parts of Penrose uninhabitable for the next 100 years but I reckon that is a small price to pay for a crime free city.
