There is something very, very wrong when the Mother of J Broughton.

The cold blooded killer of Karen Aim, is on TV, and in her interview she states that he is really a good boy.

How the whole thing was tragic, but had brought the family closer to-gether.

Not a huge amount of embarrassment, or contrition.No sincere regard or reflection on the victims family, friends, or township.

She conveniently skipped over the fact that the little shit had had a trial run, less than 2 weeks before.

Using a rock to bash the head of an innocent young girl. And in a shocking way that made his mate vomit.

Like the odious Victoria Stevens, and her antics.

It occurs to me that stopping the benefits of immediate family might make them a little less laissez faire about the evil acts the little shits perpetrate.

Just like the hoarding scumbag on the TV last night. Would love a panel of Military doctors to thoroughly assess that retard.

Last, but not least the young couple on ‘Fair Go’ squeeling about being charged for drinking the Penfolds Grange was another story of beligerent entitlement culture.

How about not drinking at all? They were a couple of chancers, blaming everyone but themselves.

Whale OIl has picked up on a letter from Margaret Wilson decrying the re-adoption of courtesy titles in our honours system. She states that it is “so yesterday”. What she misses is that not everything about our colonial heritage is bad and there is nothing wrong in having ancient titles brought back that recognises talent. I assume she will not be adopting the title of “Dame” while she swans around an ancient English University of Cambridge. I trust she is enjoying that “so yesterday” institution.

DPF, can you talk to Rodney and John Key and see if you can get this entrenched nanny state Labour created out of our lives? Here is the scenario.

A fellow on Kiwibiker was wanting to sell his motorcycle. He tried on Trademe and was unsuccessful, because it is primarily a track-day bike. (No registered for road use, it’s for track time) So, he conceived of an idea. He would sell posters at $50 a pop, and those would all go into a lucky draw. The winner of the lucky draw would get the option to win the bike for $1. The names were all to be on tickets and drawn, in front of everybody who could attend, in Pukekohe next weekend. He was selling 250 tickets, which would cover the cost of the bike. He was also adding a second prize of a LCD TV and a third prize of a hard-drive recorder.

It is an innovative way to dispose of his private property and it had a lot of us fairly excited about the prospects. But what happens? He gets a call from a government department who tells him he cannot proceed and that they will make an example of him if he tries it.

WTF?!?

This is private property. People have chosen to accept his conditions and to buy tickets. Why the fuck is the government involved in this at all? This, in my mind, is utterly disgusting. Yet, just a few posts below you see the story of a drink driving mother to be and I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts the government won’t interfere because of (x), (y) or (z). You see that type of bullshit time and time again. Do something criminal and the government looks the other way. Try to do something with your own property and you have three thousand page documents to read, four years of red-tape and then you’ve managed to reach somebody who could talk to you about it.

Watching Channel 94 Parliament yesterday I have started getting nervous tremors about how things are transpiring in the House of Representatives.
Gerry Brownlee is certainly not a success as leader of the House. He is caught out so much of the time by Dr Cullen(An artful oppopnent)that he seems to be like a bubble at sea. He needs to do a lot more homework, the best I can see is that he should resign all his portfolios to concentrate on leading the house.
The Speaker Lockwood Smith has developed unfortunate habits where he seems to be making responses on the hoof, finding they are not working, apologising and looking very weak. Cullen and Brownlee both indirectly criticised him yesterday. He looks weak and instead of being fair seems to in a constant dither with that “schoolbnoy caught with his hands in the cookie jar look”. The opposition,especially Cullen,Mallard and Darren Hughes are having a field day.
I also wonder whether Nick Smith has gone too far with the ACC thing. His response at the select committee meeting yesterday was bizarre while in the house he reacts strangely.
A special plug for Chris Finlayson. I respect him greatly for his efficient but tongue in cheek answers. Well done !

2. What the guy did was try and run a lottery and these have been regulated in many countries partly for moral reasons and partly because they were a common vehicle for rip-off merchants. For example it is very tempting to sell the tickets including one to a friend and rig the draw.

Kirks, Wellington’s premier department store got ‘pinged’ by the authorities years ago. They baked a birthday cake containing sixpences (as was common with Christmas puds until Reserve Bank changed the alloy which reacted with the ingredients) and offered each customer a piece – this was regarded as an unlawful lottery.

isnt the bike that wont sell on Trade Me ( their success rate is very low about 15%) a ‘price’ problem. $12500 is on the high end for somthing heading into winter and a recession

Offer at a dirt (pun intended) cheap opening price to generate lots a bids, make sure the finish time is about 8-9PM ( not Friday) to catch lots of punters at home and get a few friends to make dummy bids to generate interest towards the end.

Finally got around to watching police ten-7 recorded a couple of weeks ago on to mysky. (what a great machine by the way).

A cop suspected a someone inside a house had been drink driving (no chase, just a tip off).

He knocked on the door, and asked the woman why there was a dent in her car – she said that it was an old dent, perfectly plausible.

The cop then demanded a breath test and the woman refused . Then the cop told her she must take the breath test and she assumed by law she was required to do so. No guesses what would happen if she refused, the cop would have bailed her up and dragged her down to the cop shop, or , charged her with failing to provide a sample (which is as bad as being guilty of drunk driving I believe).

This case, is very similar to the senior cop who recently required a breath test but refused.

I can’t believe the cops get away with this thing, but joe or jody average can’t .

Just occurs to me that there should be a 50% tariff load on any individual in known GANG membership or association, found guilty of violent crimes, or crimes that violence is used.

Conversely, and more controversially there could be a 50% discount when those violent crimes are against another GANG member or associate. Particulary murder/manslaughter.

In any event the cessation of all benefits to immediate family or co-dwellers should be immediate on any conviction.

That would make Gang activity a lot less trendy.

Can anyone in the know explain what Steven Joyce is on about here?

Transport Minister Stephen Joyce told the Herald yesterday that the Government was concerned about the combined cost of the regional fuel tax and national fuel tax for drivers.

“We have been considering whether the regional fuel taxes are the right way to go,” he said. The Government was committed to the Auckland rail electrification, “but we’re not convinced regional fuel tax is the best way to fund it”.

WTF? What is a fairer way than Aucklanders paying for electrification of rail than with a regional fuel tax? The price of petrol varies so much that I doubt anyone will notice a 2c a litre increase in July, or a 9.5c increase by 2011. Even people who continue to drive and don’t use the train will benefit from less road congestion when thousands of people move to the trains. The trains are about to be ordered for crying out loud.

Anyone know what he is on about here? Is this some sort of push for private sector funding? A PPP perhaps? Or will the Government just fund the entire amount, like they did for Wellington’s new electric trains?

I am really confused about the huge TV campaign regarding Tax refunds from 2000 onwards.

The advert must have cost a lot of money to produce, and the airtime must have cost a small fortune.

The IRD must know who has been overcharged. They always know who hasn’t paid enough!

Why didn’t they just write to those likely to be eligible, or drop in a flyer in the next round of demands?

Frankly, I am amazed they want to pass back $700m, which is the price of a crappy little train set. Those people have obviously not even missed the money.

There should be a permanent area on the IRD website explaining the latest TAX Refund notification. In any event this latest fess up is only able to be claimed on-line.

Plus, I think the Labour Party should fully fund it, or Cullens pension plan. After all it happened on his watch!

Been watching the Madoff circus outside the court. Many investors outside giving Madoff his pedigree. One is interviewed, “I lost 1 million, my wife lost 3 million, my mother lost 10 million, this greedy crook has taken the lot”. For shits sake, yes Madoff took the money, a lot of these investors should look in the mirror. Madoff wasn’t the only one that was greedy.

But, you are right. My point is, that the cops abuse of power (or lack of knowledge of the law) is common.

A friend (who has never been in trouble) had a really amazing run in with police, where he was continually harassed simply because a particular cop took a dislike to him. Things were sorted out eventually, with the threat of going public.

I thought that was inspirational. The discussion around trees on private property made me think about the balance between rights and responsibilities . Y’ cant have one without the other. Your right to do as you will on private property, balanced by the responsibility to your community. I only seem to hear about the former here.

I can’t understand why nobody has ever been held accountable for the continued abject failure of the Libertarianz party. [trounced 10:1 by Bill & Ben in ’08 for example] There are some good libertarian types out there, Blair Mulholland, Trevor Loudon for example but I don’t think they’d have the approved level of ideological purity required by the Cresswellian lot.

yes, seems ironic (not a shadow of flippancy in that statement).

What I don’t quite get, is that there’s been double bunking in prisons for years – I’ve seen 4 in cells at Rimutaka, and that was years ago. Maybe they’re the ultra low security inmates.

FWIW, I have no problem with it, so long as there’s some monitoring in the interests of inmate safety.

Dead right. They actually have (or had) some good concepts yet continue to fail to get any political traction. In any real party, leaders would be fired for such dereliction of duty. Their lack of success has always been my main issue with them, and I believe this is why the current leadership seeks to muzzle me.

I don’t know Steven Joyce’s reasons for going cool on the regional fuel tax, but I’ll give you my view. It’s a crude policy choice to have motorists pay not only for the roads they drive on but also for the rail tracks that they choose not to use. An immoral cross-subsidy that has no place in our type of economy.

The most optimistic forcasts suggest that Auckland rail will be very lucky to carry 3% of the city’s commuters by 2020 if the system receives all the “wish list” investment that some would throw at it. So cross-subsidisation from road users won’t even be “effective” in achieving the desired ends.

So I suspect that Steven Joyce is probably reading the political signs accurately. Why go out on a limb with a highly unpopular leftie-type “punishment” tax when it won’t even result in moving commuters in meaningful numbers to what will still be a pitiful suburban rail system?

I was about to say that if freight went by rail instead of those behemoth trucks, it’d be a great boon to motorists, but electrification is about passengers, isn’t it?

Ilew: Getting freight onto rail is a real hurdle at the best of times in a sparsely-populated country like NZ – it only ever worked when it was mandated by government through a ban on longhaul trucking outside a range of 150(?)km, and when it was almost impossible to import modern, efficient trucks.

Around the so-called Auckland suburban rail “network” (comprising one route south to Papakura / Pukekohe, and another west to Henderson / Helensville), freight is a non-starter. And so is a genuine passenger rail service with appropriate connections to bus services, unless new lines are built to the likes of:

– North Shore (with coverage to Devonport and Birkenhead, as well as northwards);
– Howick / Pakuranga / Botany; and
– Hillsborough / Mt Roskill / Blockhouse Bay.

It’s not going to happen. And I don’t want to pay a regional fuel tax on my car to subsidise the Greenies’ dreaming.

My take is that three years is a helluva lot lighter than the thrower would have got under the regime the Americans deposed. Not only would he have been shot, but so would most of his family. Any newspaper or electronic channel he represented would probably have been shut down.

More efficient bodyguards in most countries would probably have shot him down when he raised his shoe to throw it.

I’m not saying I agree with this reaction, but it’s fact.

Free speech doesn’t mean freedom to commit assault, either in Baghdad or even in good old NZ. I know lots of the NZ mainstream media lefties would like to throw objects at politicians to the right of far left, but they have a sense of decorum and a fear of fine/jail and being sacked. So they confine their missiles to words. Rightly so.

I am speaking of the You Tube footage (I’ve linked to it on my site) of Clinton bemoaning the fact that if people just understood that human embryonicestem-cell research was only done on unfertilised fetuses (feti?) there would be no controversy.

The problem, borker, is your arbitrarily discounting & discrediting everything someone says if you don’t agree with their world view. And that still qualifies for the shallowness tag I’m afraid.

If this is the way humanism works then there’d be quite a few readers here looking for alternatives I should think.

Unfortunately getstaffed, borker’s belief system is one that tells him that he is right and there is not a snowball’s chance in hell that anyone else is. But the way he resorts to abuse and name-calling suggests to me that he’s not as con=mfortable with his belief system as he’d like us to think that he is.

i’m sorry to burst your bubble but a lame little get best price on trademe is no different than get cheapest option when a contract is put out for tender (get best deal) i bet you do it your self when you buy a fridge or whatever, its called capitalism, maybe even try to buy a house 4 below GV if you want be prepared to pay the price simple.

Hmmm,

kiwipolemicist has a post about gang patches.

There may already be a law against them but I have yet to see a gangster apprehended for wearing one.

I have seen members covering patches in public when they are alone.

Neither have I seen anyone intimated by the sight of patch wearing members in public. Members are too easy to identify to commit aggresive acts in public. In reality it is teens vying for patches that are the danger. They will murder to get the respect a patch entails.

It used to be most patched members were capable strong men who attained their patches well short of murder. I can’t speak for today, but gangs are not responsible for random acts of violence in a consistent way. They too busy trying to drum up business, even involving former enemies. The size of this country has seen that happening sooner or later.

Black Power and HeadHunters are now business partners. That’s a gangland paradigm.

For the most part if you don’t cross adult gang members they will have no interest in you.

It’s the teens giving them the bad rap.

As for Wanganui, I will say that if the culprits who shot the baby through the house window had of been men, they would’ve kicked the door down and identified their target before shooting. The fact they didn’t showed their cowardice in the act.

Not good. Anyone else smell a slightly squiffy rat in respect of the increase being from more deaths being reported?!?

A strange premise indeed.

I would’ve guessed that a death certificate required by law would make all deaths officially reported. Are there a large number of people dying anonymously?

So is it that journalists are the ones who haven’t reported it?

Or is it that the Review Committee actively turned blind eye to it, leaving it our of T.O.R. of their reports?
