Finally Housing NZ is catching on. The question is; will these scum wake up and realize they will have to behave to have a house , will they buy their own and where, will they terrorize a private landlord. Good move by HNZ and long overdue. In this case they have gone to the tenancy tribunal which is good as the ruling will be recorded for all to see. However HNZ are also finally catching on an issuing 90 day vacation notices which don’t require a tenancy ruling so leaving others exposed to the wiles of these crap tenants. I would guess though it goes without saying that those same tenants evicted by 90 day vacates will still damage the property and leave rent unpaid some we can hope that HNZ will put that in front of the tribunal, sooner rather than later.

A Morrinsville family facing eviction from a state house claim they are being victimised because of their links to the Mongrel Mob.

But Housing New Zealand says the family make unsuitable tenants because of the alleged illegal activity they have permitted on the property not because of their gang connection.

The Pairama family have lived in Chapman St, Morrinsville, for 22 years but Housing NZ and the police say neighbours are intimidated by them.

The family are related to Anthony Pairama the Lower Hutt Mongrel Mob member at the centre of a police botch-up in which sensitive police documents were left at a Mob house.

Miriam Pairama said she and her four children were facing eviction from the house her mother lived in for 22 years because her brother Lesta a member of the Mongrel Mob had been living there.

Her mother was the lease holder from 1988 until she died of cancer last year.

“It’s not his (Lesta’s) fault he’s here. The police bailed him here,” Ms Pairama, who is not a gang member, said.

Lesta, a Mongrel Mob member of 26 years who got out of prison last year, told the Waikato Times his family was being victimised “by association”.

He is now in the process of moving out of a garage at the back of the house in the hope Housing NZ will change its mind and let Miriam stay.

A tenancy tribunal hearing has been scheduled for March 31.

“I have sacrificed my life and self and moved on so they can have a life here,” Lesta Pairama said. “Why should my whole family have to suffer because of my association with the Mob?

“This whare is the only memory we have of our parents, it means so much to us.”

The siblings counter claims that they have been intimidating neighbours. “Quite a few of the neighbours have come to me and said that it’s all a bunch of lies, so who are we intimidating?” Ms Pairama said.

Neighbours at home when the Times visited said they had no problem with the family.

Housing NZ has offered the family two other homes to live in, but both were turned down.

“The first house I looked at had all the windows boarded up and the second was too small,” Ms Pairama said.

“But why do they want to move me from this three-bedroom house to another one anyway?”

A Housing NZ spokeswoman said it had tried to find private housing for Ms Pairama after she declined the houses.

They had also worked with the local runanga and other government services to support the family. But numerous instances of anti-social behaviour and “illegal activity” at the property meant “Miriam is not suitable for a state tenancy”.

“We do not, and cannot, discriminate against an applicant based on gang affiliations.”

Morrinsville Sergeant Kris Clarke said police had attended numerous disturbances at the house and issued numerous warnings to them about their behaviour. “Their neighbours are intimidated by them. We have told them that we will not tolerate any gang colours or behaviour in Morrinsville.”

Well maybe that policy needs to change. Presumably Housing NZ discriminates against say pedophiles when considering their placement. Why not do the same to anyone with gang affiliations?

The rank hypocrisy is incredible. The guy has no class. Imagine if Bush had said that what the World wide response would have been.

Something that Obama supporters seem happy to ignore is the fact his cabinet and close advisors are stacked with more people from the Wall Street elite than any other POTUS has ever had. Government of Wall Street by Wall Street for Wall Street. There’s no-one from heavy industry, the auto industry, Silicon Valley, Big Oil, Defence, Labour, no women, no retirees, no small business. It’s the most extreme Wall Street executive branch we’ve ever had.

It’s been a gradual trend since JFK’s assassination and has never proven beneficial to the American people. Bush did such a poor job at disguising the agenda that the people were beginning to see through the facade.

Along comes Obama, a glossy new puppet. And all the sheeple cheer.

This prophetic quote from Abe Lincoln shows the way.

The money power preys on the nation in times of peace, and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. The answer to your first question is yes.

The answer to your second question is…no bloody way!, I was fortunate enough to witness some of Tendulkars innings yesterday, he is without doubt the second best batsmen of all time, indeed there are a few people who rate him as highly as Bradman.

There has NEVER been a better batting team visit NZ, it is a bloody crime that there are not more people attending this test match.

You’re right about that bruv – I’ve been watching cricket since the early 1960’s, and Tendulkar is without doubt the best batsman that I have ever seen. Hopefully the Black Caps can make enough runs today so that Tendulkar gets a second innings at Hamilton. I will be going to at least the first day of the test in Welly, and hope to see him bat there – he is a legend.

Bruv – I too appreciate the fine display of batting and bowling by the Indians – I’m just sick of the constant capitulation by our batsmen. Having said that, I have an newfound greater appreciation for Daniel Vettori (I just wish he’d ask Flem about setting a field)…

Big Bruv, I question your comment that there has never been a better batting team to visit NZ than the current Indian side.

Unfortunately too many of this team’s batsmen do not have good records away from the sub-Continent.

I suggest that Ocker teams containing M Taylor, the Waugh brothers etc. and teams containing the Chappell brothers, D Walters were better as were the odd team from England.

I agree that Tendulkar is probably the second best batsman of all time and will be interested in finding out which of Gavaskar, Lara, Border, Ponting, Kallis, Sangakara, G Chappell you rate above him.

Incidentally while Ponting is not that great, not even good I suggest even he is better than Vettori.

Uh sorry I thought state houses belonged to the state. Since when has it been the right of the ‘children to inherit’ a state house? If the state house was the mothers then on her death surely it should have been vacated and gone back to the state for redistribution to the next needy person on the waiting list?

Lets try and liven the thread up.

Every time I post a comment to the following effect, I get hit with negative karma.

The worldwide financial crash was not due to a lack of regulation. It was due to the failure of regulators as well as the Wall Street turkeys, to believe that house prices could ever come down.

They kept lending money on that basis.
They kept securitizing mortgages on that basis.
They kept selling derivatives on that basis.
The regulators (of which there were thousands) okayed all of the above on that basis.
The Wall Street turkeys didn’t bother their heads about risk because that is what the regulators are paid to do.
The people who issued warnings were dismissed as cranks.
The people buying up derivatives in a big way were dismissed as suckers, when in fact they were the smartest people around.

Now comes the killer question.

Ask yourself:

Is the price of my house too high? Is New Zealand a lucky country that is going to be bypassed by housing crashes?

USA GDP: $14 trillion
“Total Housing stock” at peak of bubble: $20 Trillion

NZ GDP: $180 billion
“Total Housing stock” at peak of bubble: $630 Billion

The question I would ask you, is what is the difference between you and all those Turkeys on Wall Street and the Turkeys who were supposed to be regulating them? What entitles New Zealanders to take the moral high ground about “failure of free markets” and “rampant de-regulation”?

Phil in your calculation you’re ignoring the derivatives in the UK/US GFC ledger, aren’t you.

$7-800 trillion. Of which not all are bad but no-one knows which is and which isn’t.

Our critical GFC issue in the short term is the 40% of long-term debt we need to roll over on the international market this year. When we try to do that, if the market says “no,” where will we be then? Even if the banks get it it will cost quite a bit, say 8% and then where are they when it comes to passing on those costs regardless of the OCR? Last I looked, they won’t absorb costs ever.

Our interest rates are currently about as low as they’ll ever get, another 75 basis points and they would be absolute rock-bottom, based on our market.

Unfortunately the banks are lending to farmers right now but not to business – look at all the Capital Notes issues coming to market right now.

In relation to your question re: the regulation, we didn’t need derivative or predatory lending regulation because we weren’t in those markets, by and large. However, what we cried out for, for years, was regulation preventing financial advisors receiving kickbacks for recommending products from specific finance companies. It never came, all during Liarbore’s term. Would be nice if the media had picked up on that when it had the chance.

Apart from that, we’re pretty sound except for our spend-more-than-we-earn propensity which you can’t solve by regulation but can address through education. Personally amongst other initiatives I’d like to see the old banking schemes resurrected where every child had a Post Office Savings Book. Sounds corny, there are probably ways to update it to the 21st century, but fact is, until someone teaches children not to spend more than you earn, nothing will improve. From all the evidence, the most selfish generation ever – the baby boomers, have done a pretty lousy parental job in that regard…

You are correct, or at least it won’t be bettered until they reintroduce the back foot no-ball rule and the ball must pitch in line LBW rule, return to teams where about half make no genuine attempt to become competent fieldsmen, ban bodyline bowling, reduce test cricket to two main teams and a couple of tryers, kill off a fair percentage of talented opposition (oh wait, the Pakis are already trying that) and get rid of video analysis.

There is no doubt Bradman was a talented batsman (and one of the lowest forms of life ever produced by Australia) but all of those I named plus a few more (Barry and Viv Richards, Pollock, Mohammed Youseff, Miandad, Inzimam el Haq etc) have played under considerably more exacting conditions and, unlike Bradman, not cried about them.

Bradman would struggle to make the current NZ team – even if he played for ND.

Insulting the Don in Australia is a capital offence. I suggest you tear up your passport, as I have reported you, and there is and arrest warrant on your arrival when you decide to migrate here.

REally – One of the lowest forms of life produced in Australia? He was probably the best AND fairest sportsman EVER!

He basically re-invented the game and defined the art of batting. All of this BEFORE covered pitches.

BTW – I support the NZ cricket team – and NOT Australia’s. But I have played on both sides of the Tasman, and New Zealand is about 40 years behind.

You will have to excuse MT, he does get rather carried away at times.

However he does raise a good point re Bradman, while I would not describe Bradman as the lowest form of life there is NO DOUBT that he (Bradman) was a sectarian bigot of the worst kind and an extremely selfish and greedy man.
The whole bodyline thing is a classic example, the tactics used by Jardine where brilliant, they were within the laws of the game and a fantastic example of a captain thinking outside the square yet the ACB and Bradman did nothing but moan about it until the rules where changed to suit Bradman.

Interestingly enough the really hard men of the Aussie team at that time took a far more honourable stance on the matter and did not scream like school girls when confronted with leg theory.

If you have played as much cricket as you say then you will also know that Bradman was far from universally popular with his team mates and ACB officials, indeed it is a well known fact that when Bradman was bowled for 0 in his final innings at least one third of his team mates were rolling about the dressing room floor in fits of laughter.

Certainly players like the great Keith Miller and Tiger O’Reily had very little time for the man, yes they respected his ability but they had no time at all for hm as a person.

Having said all that I would still rate Bradman as the best batsmen of all time but not by a large margin, IMHO Tendulkar, Pollock and Ponting (by the time his career is over) run a very close second.

Note that I did not say that Bradman is the best cricketer of all time, that title can a ans should be awarded to the one and only S K Warne.

I have serious doubts about what you say about Bradman, and I doubt you are a historian either.

I do know of the many, Many noble things he did whilst playing. On his last tour, whilst England was still on rations, he lead the Aussies to also live on the same rations during the tour. He never charged for his signature (and he signed everything), even though it was becoming a hugely valuable commodity.

If Bodyline was part of the rules, then so was underarm bowling … very dangerous to start down that path. I assume you know Bill Woodfull .. and his famous quote:

“There are two teams out there, one is playing cricket. The other is making no attempt to do so.”

TimG Big Bruv seldom gets things right but this time most of his post is correct.

I’ll add the facts that Bradman could not be bothered, after a one off failure, to play NZ and was instrumental in ensuring NZ for many years never got to play Australia in a test.

As an administrator his dominating, overbearing and rather nasty personality tainted Oz cricket for many years.

I happen to be a fan of Oz cricket and while I think A Border, R Benaud and possibly S Waugh push hard I agree with Big Bruv, the best cricketer the world has seen is S K Warne.

As for underarm bowling, if it’s in the rules it’s fair enough. (it isn’t now)

For those of us around at the time the Trevor Chappell incident was notable not for his captain’s knowledge and use of the rules at the time but for the utter gutlessness of the action when NZ, with a new batsman at the crease, needed a six to tie.

It was that gutlessness that led, of course, to NZ’s highest elected representative at the time commenting on the colour of the backs of the Oz uniform.

Then don’t take my word for it, look it up, get a book out from the library about the great Keith Miller, he had NO time for Bradman as a person (this I can confirm as I was lucky enough to meet Miller later in his life).

Bradmans sectarian bigotry is also well known, look Tim, I am not slagging the man’s ability just pointing out a few home truths, yes I know it is sacrilege to say these things about Bradmanin Australia but that does not mean they are not true.
