Tax rise hurts business – Johnson

i.e. making silly concessions on the eve of election victory. The 45p tax rate will raise hardly any additional tax revenue. It’s all style over substance. Power at any cost indeed.

Peter Dunne’s comment about a flat tax rate is the most sensible thought to come from his mouth.
I remember the former M.P. for Otara used to speak in a similar manner.
The New Zealand Party was talking flat tax rates in 1984. It has taken a quarter of a century for the fact to sink in.

But don’t worry, the Pope has a plan to combat the spread of all three of these “diseases”, his plan is simple and one that only a complete and utter idiot would think has a chance of succeeding

I am constantly amazed at the stupidity of the Catholic church, they are quite happy to hide the numerous paedophilic priests from the law but see nothing wrong with letting their followers (as brain dead as most of them are) die in their millions from a disease that could drastically reduced by letting their followers use Condoms.

I’d hate to think he might have fallen under a trolley bus (that’s the problem with those quiet buses, they creep up on you without you knowing it).

The Supreme Court will today hear another round of litigation resutling from the RSA murders, when it considers an appeal by the Corrections Department against a decision of the court to allow Ms Couch, the sole survivor, to sue it.

The interesting bit is that Ms Couch’s counsel, according to the Supreme Court list (available here: http://www.courtsofnz.govt.nz/business/calendar/daily-lists/23-March-2009.pdf) is one BP Henry, blood-brother to a former Member of Parliament and, as I recall, trustee of the Susan Couch and Crime Victims Charitable Trust. This Trust was to receive a donation from NZ First of monies paid to it by Parliamentary Services.

One wonder if said trust will be contributing to Ms Couch’s lawyer’s fees?

Tauhei Notts I think a flat tax rate would be the way to go but it will never happen. All governments use taxation as a way to control people. The government will tell you that it is fairer to tax the rich more as they can afford it, this of course is total bullshit. A low flat tax rate would jump start the country and we would see real grow. Given time the amount of tax revenue would surpass what is collected now. A low flat tax would upset a few accountants and lawyers as much of their business has more to do with tax avoidance and tax rules. But the overall loser would be big government as the more wealth held in private hands the greater irrelavence the government has in their lives.

Greenfly don’t know if you realise but a greenfly is one of the sheep farmers worst enemies. The fly is slightly bigger the a house fly and it has a bright green body but these bastards are evil. They will fly over sheep and drop eggs on to back and arse area, these then hatch into maggots and eat the sheep alive. These parasites will eventually kill the sheep, not unlike you and your commie mates, unless the sheep is treated. I have shorn many fly blown sheep and it is without a doubt one of the worst jobs one can do.

side show bob – maybe your etymology book is different from mine. My kinda greenfly is a plant-sap sucker and has no interest in sheep 🙂 Maybe yours is a Green Fly. No relation. I’ve roused in many a woolshed and know what you are talking about. Speaking of wool, do you wear your hair like your namesake?

Look, over the last 8 years or so, the NZ GDP has been artificially inflated to the tune of about 10% per annum, by the effect on consumer spending, of property values also artificially inflating. If it wasn’t for that, the economy would already have been shrinking years ago.

All the luxuries enacted by the Clark government, like WFF and student loan subsidies and nationalising corporations and assets, and employer contributions to kiwisaver and 4 weeks leave and costly impositions on employers and strangulatory environmental protections; were things that we truly could not afford: we should have been tightening our belts, not loosening them. We now need to tighten twice as much, and we just aren’t home when it comes to getting this message.

PhilBest, I agree that a fair portion of our recent economic growth has been illusory, built on a shell game of rising house prices (note, prices, not values) and ready access to cheap debt.

To be fair, large parts of our true economy have also contributed, like the dairy boom. But a lot has been based on people taking out bigger mortgages so they can buy new cars and LCD TVs, rather than investing in productive assets.

That’s why it’s pretty disappointing to see signs that investor interest in real estate is on the rise again. FFS that’s the problem that’s got us in this mess in the first instance. It’s the real estate bubble that’s mainly to blame for the current economic problems we’re in. But Kiwis seem to be crack addicts when it comes to buying property.

Telstra customer.
History is a fire six months ago and now time to get the telephone working.
Simple as, just ring and get connected. One week later and many calls this is still a problem. Seems there is this ticket thing that did not get generated to send to the wholesalers Telecom.

Simple as, we ring again and get apologies and apologies and apologies. You would think they get the hint like do something and stop the sorry rubbish.

Then comes the Broadband thing, it may take 24/48 hrs after the connection is made.
Amazing that we can send a signal to a robot on Mars to instruct, yet we can not get communication to tell some dickbrain to put a jumper pin in at the exchange.

How the fuck do these incompedent people get jobs, let alone stay in that job???

Two brothers, young teenagers, mapped out the sexual abuse they wanted to carry out.

CYF were made aware of the list, which included the names of future victims and described in graphic detail the planned attacks.

But nothing was done to stop those attacks happening. And in the end, at least 12 young girls were molested.

60 Minutes Reporter Sarah Hall investigates.

CPF is the government organisation meant to use their discretion when investigating parents for smacking an unruly child.

It appears that like in the case of the canyoning tragedy no one is going to be held to account.

A replay can be watched online. Heads should roll.

Please point out where I said anything about these sheep NOT being slaughtered here?, also please point out where I said I was in favour of these poor creatures being sent away as live exports?

Personally I think that any killing done in a slaughter house is the worst form of cruelty, home kill is the only way to go in my book as the animal has a quick, painless and most importantly UNEXPECTED death.

There you go D4J, a challenge has been offered, are you game to take it up or are you going to burst forth with another irrational outburst complete with child like name calling?

I can tell you from experience that this lack of police and CYFs attention in cases like that is not uncommon
I was a Mackenzie friend for a victim’s family in a serious case of abuse and had to deal with CYFs and the Police on behalf. I can tell you that that both departments are equally useless. As the victims family on 60 min has stated they have never been interviewed by CYFs is not an uncommon situation.
That dept is run with less efficiency than a corner dairy

hey toad, that argument about disproportionate sentencing is completely bogus.

After the 2nd offense, if you commit a burglary, you aren’t just committing a burglary as if it were your first offense. You are showing yet again your disdain and contempt for society and its laws. Why should someone get off that with just the price of the burglary (or 1/3 of it)?
