Cork Count Result
April 3rd, 2009 at 10:00 am by David FarrarSomewhat overdue, but we have the results of the annual cork count.

The middle jar was the one to be guessed. the left hand one had 512 closures (272 corks/240 stelvins) and the right hand one 496 closures (388 corks and 108 stelvins).

And despite appearances, the numbers were up. 517 closures made up of 122 corks and 395 stelvins.
The closest guesser online was Andrew W at 524.
Can we make 550 this year or will the recession bite?

Who’d have thought it … a correlation between stelvins and cirrhosis?
Vote:But I am sure that you would have shared all those bottles with others.

They are not personal consumption, but shared between ten or so people.

517 divided by “ten or so people” is still not to be sniffed at.

Yep. Empty and echoing and very lonely.
Vote:DPF, if all of those were shared between 10 people that’s only effectively one a week. Not good enough, the NZ wine industry demands more; there’s another big harvest being picked as we speak, so could you step up the pace a bit?

So close! (525) but a better mix of corks v stelvins than Andrew W – I’ll take a small victory from that. (79corks, 446 stelvins).

Our kids make models out of our corks for school projects and they look quite good, you should give it a go they are easy to work with.

David,
Do you take corks home from the restaurants you go to or is all this consumption limited to your house?
I ask as I don’t drink at home. Terrible habit.
