Yeah jarbury, that is fine BUT, it is the risk that Rusell should be prepared to take. We have been quite vocal on this blog about those who get tossed out of electorate seats (in some cases overwhelmingly) but then re-incarnate as list MPs and carry on as if nothing has happened.

This is just the corollary of that scenario. In addition, IF Rusell should be fortunate enough to win the seat, I presume that another Green list MP will be annointed.

To hedge his bets and not put himself at the mercy of the electorate would be, IMVHO, quite hypocritical and contrary to the brand positioning that the greens have adopted and assiduously promoted - certainly in their internal party politics. It should be the perice he is prepared to pay for the privilege of standing as a candidate. In addition, as a sitting MP, I presume he will be better resourced in his campaign than if he was "Joe Green' of Mt Albert. Is that legit?

David, I think that situation would only really be justified for a Labour candidate. The Greens only got 11% of the party vote in Mt Albert last year - above their national average but hardly what you would think of as giving them a huge chance at winning the seat.

No pies or junk food allowed. Whaleoil has lost too much weight DFP. You don't want to destroy all his good efforts by allowing crap food into the blogmobile.

One good thing is you'll get a bit of brainwashing from Whale which hopefully will bring you back across to the right wing;-)

This was posted over at No Minister in Comments but on reflection, it is probably better asked here now that the Greens candidate has been announced.

"The question someone needs to put to Rusell is that given the oft-espoused integrity of the greens and their respect for the wishes of the electorate, will Rusell resign his list seat either before standing as an electoral candidate and take his chances? OR, if not and he is rejected by the Mt Albert electors, will he then resign his list place on the grounds that he has been specifically sent the message that he is not wanted?

Integrity is a great catchcry until it is put to the test in most cases so this is now the ideal oppportunity for the Greens to put their mana where their mouth is."

That would get a candidate interview off to a fine start I reckon.

Perhaps the day and night time locations of the Blogmobile will be a big issue in drumming up interest in a constituency which is likely to be election fatigued.

Also perhaps some happy and cheerful sponsors might make sense.

Shall I try and think of some associated companies that might also want to play?

I thought you were a stoner ?

Any stoner would know it's not a matter of "shout". It's always "share", each brings their best bud and there is a bud buffet. Naturally some people are caught short from time to time, but it is never custom to request that somebody else supplies you with buds.

In all these cases the principle of valuation is 'before and after.' What was the property worth before the project was built, what is it worth assuming the project has been completed. AM is right. Among other things, as part of 'presenting your case' you would engage a reputable local registered valuer (reputable means one who did not do work for BlueChip) to prepare before and after valuations.

State or even council aquisitions under the Public Works act mean a home owner gets Market value, paid legal costs for sale and purchase, moving expences and about 2K in cash. Been there, done that.
Jarbury. It is entirely possible that properties directly affected by the link development.i.e immediatley adjacent may get purchased as well, especially if a very good case is presented to transit or Auckland City.
