To hedge his bets and not put himself at the mercy of the electorate would be, IMVHO, quite hypocritical and contrary to the brand positioning that the greens have adopted and assiduously promoted – certainly in their internal party politics. It should be the perice he is prepared to pay for the privilege of standing as a candidate. In addition, as a sitting MP, I presume he will be better resourced in his campaign than if he was “Joe Green’ of Mt Albert. Is that legit?

One good thing is you’ll get a bit of brainwashing from Whale which hopefully will bring you back across to the right wing;-)
