This 'straining' of relationship began prior to the general election when the former PM took an extremely dim view of Bob and officers courting Nat candidates and Key. Harsh words were spoken.

Dont forget Bob Harvey was the Labour president that once suggested a Labour/National coalition - he aint as red as many think

"Redbaiter

The Nats have to use their time in power to demolish the foundations of power of the totalitarian left- get them out of our schools, get them out of our universities, get them out of our media, get them out of our public institutions, get them out of our bureaucracy."

Politically independent public service huh?

"Make it so the next series of elections in NZ are a real competition of ideas, a race to promote freedom of choice and a free economy, and not a sad sick surrender to totalitarian socialism and welfarism."

We arrived at the position we are currently in through democracy, nothing more nothing less, you'd be seriously deluded to think it would come out any other way second time around. Unless of course you get your totalitarian way of either only redbaiters approved voters being allowed to vote, or only redbaiter approved candidates to vote for.

I'm asking a serious question here, how do you think that this country as it is will end up coming to any other conclusion?

Labour have not even begun to address why they lost the 2008 election and they nearly lost the 2005 election against Don Brash. But the economy was booming in 2005. The rejection of Labour is a lot deeper than the electorate having a temporary mental breakdown, even though Labour thinks that is the case. Basically Labour is scum and they are the nasty party. Mallard is a poster boy for that - and they promoted him!!!!! This is going to take years and years.

Murray said "Popcorn and comfy chairs for all round then. Leftist emotional meltdowns, fine family holiday viewing for all."

Kind of agree Murray - but with all the bloodletting, bitchslapping and eyegouging that is likely to go on, it should come with at least a PGR rating - it sure as eggs won't be bloodless!

"Make it so the next series of elections in NZ are a real competition of ideas, a race to promote freedom of choice and a free economy"

Does this not strike anyone else as ironic? It's like saying "Make sure we have a fair coin flip, so that we can all be happier once it lands on heads"

I mean, I happen to be as fond of a free economy as the next man, but we have to accept that a lot of people do not think the same way.

Red

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, however, we simply do not have the time to muck around given the dire state of the worlds (and our) economy.

I have said it before, Neville Key needs to trust the people of NZ, he needs to spell out the crap that we are in, lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of Cullen and Clark and then list the measures we are going to have to take to fix the problem.

Cutting WFF, getting rid of interest free student loans and slashing the benefits of long term dole bludgers (Jan Molenaar anybody?) and getting rid of the DPB is just a start.

Lofty

If Bob is talking about Lynne losing her seat then no. He was the campaign manager for David Cunliffe who kept his seat and won the party vote in the New Lynn electorate.

There is no such position as Chair of West Auckland Labour. Strategic decisions tend to be made by Head Office.

"I really hope they do, however on current form it is highly unlikely."

Hope springs eternal Bruv.

However, the strategy may be not to frighten the horses, and to deny the left any ammunition. You've got to admit that re-structuring the political playing field in NZ is something that would have to be done gradually and gently especially when 1) the voting system is so perverted by welfarism and 2) the mainstream media are so corrupt.

(both of those factors being a purposeful outcome of the unprincipled anti-democratic power obsessed left)

Bob is like that favourite Uncle that some families have, eccentric, prone to outbursts and with advancing age is starting to get things wrong.

He has indicated he will not stand at the next Local Body election. May his retirement be long and peaceful.

It seems that a few labour politicians get more rightwing with age. It must be something to do with the diminution of their intellectual capabilities.

As a Waitakere ratepayer, I would expect the mayor to have good relations with the local MP's, its his job. Remember, John Key's electorate is largely in Waitakere and Paula Bennett, Tau Henare has been list MPs who live locally. Although he is strongly pro environment, he's is also a successful ex businessman, so its hardly unexpected that he gets along with Key.
