Does this mean that they will be putting the unemployed, stay-at-home-mums, DPB beneficiaries, retired-on-a-benefit, children, loss-making business owners and most people who get WFF second?

Not that it would be a bad thing in many cases but just checking to see if I understand their position.

I doubt it – tactical voting by the right should mean Lee gets those votes. Why would you vote for Boscowen even if you were fervently on the right?

It makes sense until you think about it. We’re all tax payers. We may not all be income tax payers, but I can not imagine anyone who can vote able to avoid paying any tax at all.

Because their will be a number of voters who disgusted by the cost of the tunnel option which epitomises government waste.
By coming out strongly in favour of the above ground option, National neutralises ACT’s position
Labour will paint National as supporters of the above ground option anyway, and Lee comes across evasive if she does not back either.

Around a billion and that’s with alot of the environmental works
I have seen the report you have posted from Transit and those costings seem way out of alignment with other projects.
I guess we will just have to wait to see some costings that aren’t politically motivated, but for now a billion or so seems the best estimate.
Oh a BTW I drove through there the other day and saw are some billlboards saying ‘SH20 Tunnel or Nothing’

Regarding costings, I think I’d trust NZTA and the Ministry of Transport (who have worked on options for the area for the past decade) over the Auckland Business Forum, whose costings are incredibly politically motivated.

Out of those two options, I agree with you and I go for nothing

Well, Melissa doesn’t. She said on 95bFM today that she supports the surface option.

The only candidate who favours the “nothing” option is Russel Norman. So swallow hard guys, but if you’re in Mt Albert, a vote for Norman is the most fiscally (as well as environmentally) responsible option.

I’d say the Nats are obfuscating after Lee was flushed out by Norman into revealing the real agenda the Nats didn’t want in the public domain until after the by-election.

From a reasonably good source:

The latest news from contacts on the inside reveals that the costing for both the full surface and driven tunnel / cut & cover tunnel combo went in last Friday.

Although I do not have the total sums, the difference between the two options is only some $200M. Assuming that the cost of the job is to be about $2 Billion thats only a 10% difference which would make it likely that the tunnel option will be the way forward.

We should know tomorrow….

I have asked you this before, why not have a crack at his policies?, why not debate the issues rather than wage an all out (and frankly quite pathetic) personal attack on the man, after all Toad, he is only doing what the people want.

Bruv, Garrotte is a sick parody of fascism. He’s not doing “what the people want” at all. He’s doing the business of a few either malevolent or misguided dorks from the Silly Sentencing Trust, who are trying to whip the country up into some sort of fascist frenzy. He is the freekiest guy to ever be elected to Parliament – even Norman Jones was somewhat more grounded in reality.

I have to say that he scares me shitless, because, despite the “crack down on crime” projection, the personality behind it is of someone who has the potential in himself to commit some very serious acts of violence. Let’s hope Catherine Delahunty does not wind him up too much, because all the language we get from Garrett hints at an internally very violent man who could snap at any moment.

If any MP ever was a sicko, Garrett has to be high on the list.

AS for “his policies”, well, voting for the Whanganui Fashion Police law was just a joke. The gangs will simply wear colours, rather than patches, no-one will be any less intimidated, but some of the more naive members of the community won’t realise it is a gang member they are dealing with, so will be sucked in. Go figure (and, yes, I know it was Michael Laws and Chester Borrows who came up with this silly law), but it was Garrett’s influence in ACT that got it passed.

What’s more, Garrett destroyed Rodney Hide’s credibility as a libertarian in the process.

I think whos funding them is a kind of side issue, and it would be good to have some hard evidence over speculation. Even without such evidence, it’s clear to any well considered right minded person that they truly are fringe extremists, its sad that the media gives them such a platform, but they are after sensation and nothing else.

Thay have all the right in the world to freedom of expression ‘baiter. As do you and I. We should be entitled to put out 20 media releases a day if we want.

What none of us should have is the legal ability to attempt to influence elections by spending vast amounts of money on paid advertising as a proxy for a political party, adn especially without anyone knowing who they are. And before you start on union pro-Labour and pro-Green (pity most of it is for Labour rather than Green) advertising, I agree that the constraints should apply to that too.

I believe every infringement on election spending is an assault on freedom of expression, and a perversion of the electoral process basically designed to hobble opposition to the left who always find it hard to raise funds due to the general unpopularity of their ideas.
