Trevor can be quite a sensible person to deal with. But he belongs to the "dirty" element in the Labour Party and does not present any real political difficulties for the National Party. He will basically push the Teachers' Union agenda. Labour have the view that Anne Tolley is a weak link in the Government and sending Trevor with his bully boy tactics will pay a political dividend for them. As John Key said who cares. Trevor in well into his middle age, I doubt he will make it back into Government.

Interfaith Dialogue = this is a clever way of Labour creating a role to use against National if they choose to abolish any such portfolio. They culd accuse of National not caring about "Interfaith Dialogue". it is like how Labour have rainbow, transgender, womynist caucuses... because they need to marginalise minorities so fool them into thinking only Labour cares about them.

Don't forget that Labour loves championing the idea that every "group" needs Labour representation. It's all bollocks of course.

Trev - I suggest next time you keep Labour away from our sporting events, Clark was the black widow for many of our previous losses. Oh and threatening ARU and the IRB with anal bottle rape mightn't be appreciated this time either. As for the Americas Cup, that makes no sense. If that was the case we need a minister for the football world cup and the ice hockey too!!

Chadwick will be good in Arts in Culture - as long as she keeps her brother away from arts policy ;-) .., Labour will benefit from the return of their Farmer O'Connor who speaks sense to the blokes like no other, and Hawkens on Local Govt.. hmm an interesting selection - Cunliffe would have been a better bet during the auckland super council stuff i rekon. And I'm unsure C Carter on foreign affairs is for the long term; with Twyford, Robertson and soon Shearer waiting in the wings. In any case tis' Good to see Goff making his mark and the news - Guyon was loving him on TV1 tonight.

The types of schools Mallard closed generally were ones in communities that now have much better road access combined with decreased populations due to advanced farm technology and forestry conversions. Theres no point paying a teaching principal $70K + to teach 8 kids, plus at least twice that again on building maintenance, resourcing etc, when there's another school ~20 minutes (or often much less) away. I don't know why National would want to bring and criticise such (mostly) sensible decisions, being as they are all about fair allocation of public resources...

Has-been Hawkins as their spokeman of local government ... looks like Labour has capitulated on the Auckland Super City debate. Remind me the last time Hawkins debated anything or even spoke in the House. The idiot (on March 1st 2008) told me that I was an idiot when I pointed out that his little red Labour van needed an authorisation. He was then pinged for not having said authorisation a few weeks later.

I'm in two minds about the punch issue. I found it (together with other parliamentary behaviour by Trev) pretty appalling. But on the other hands, he's taken his lumps for it (heh) and been voted into opposition as well.

Trevor, now that you have the RWC, will that mean you are going to sart drinking heineken again? There is also a subtle flaw in your America's cup portfolio, being that it is now the ownership of Switzerland not New Zealand. Otherwise it is a pointless portfolio involved with organising invertational yachting regattas which should be down to the domain of local councils and the involved sporting body. Pandering to it reflects your wish to get into the corporate boxes and guzzle all the free booze. Then leading on from there, does Labour really need a drunken education spokesman who wants to start a boxing match with anyone he disapproves of? Is the Labour way of settling exam marks going to be resolved in a paddling pool full of porridge?

I'm just not sure whether it's a useful use of time. Commenting on blogs is like ringing up talkback - as opposed to doing interviews with the radio presenter. It's fairly responsive and rarely do you change the terms of the debate. I just do it to kill time...

Interfaith dialogue ......... hmmmmmmmmmmm does that mean Winnie's getting all their feminists, rainbowists, Maori, PIs, left wingers, right wingers, oldies, rural and townies, unionists and the unemployable (lotsa MPs in that category) all in one room talking to each other ... and lets not even mention the Islamists and the Jews.

p.s. Does this mean too that Labour is now committed to having a Minister for Interfaith Affairs (with of course a bureaucracy to match)?

Did you have the question when it was Brash? David was breathless with excitement (and don't we now know Gentleman Brash didn't even pen the comment himself?). George, blogs are just another comms channel, an opposition that didn't have a presence on blogs would be a poor one.
