Oswald

May 28th, 2009 at 11:00 am by David Farrar

Two good posts worth highlighting from Oswald Bastable:

He blogs on the Martinborough vigilantees and how the media reported a shot was fired between night patrol members and local youths:

Now they don’t bother to mention that this was 30 young thugs against 2 ‘vigilantes’.

This is in a town that has ONE policeman, with the nearest backup at least 15 minutes away. Backup that could deal with a mob of thirty is 45 minutes away- asuming they are not already tied up.

We owe these ‘vigilantes’ a debt of gratitude- they are actually dealing with a problem the police can’t/won’t touch.

Now I don’t necessairly agree with him on the night patrol, but the national media failed to report the very pertinent fact that it was 30 against two. Without blogs, we would not know this.

I also like his take on North Korea, based on Team America.

Did they rob anything or attack anyone before shots were fired?

Or where they just “acting suspiciously”

Whatever bastable thinks, the main point is that the thugs were the ones with the guns and prepared to use them.

We do not allow our police to patrol armed, why do idiots think they have some god given right to replace the police? The whole bunch should be jailed as a menance to society.

…the national media failed to report the very pertinent fact that it was 30 against two. Where is the proof of this “very pertinent fact.”? Why, in Bastable’s post, so it must be true.Like using the nbible to prove the bible is true, farrar uses Bastable to prove bastable is correct. Maybe the national media are a little more careful with their reporting and why more people read the Herald each day than kiwiblog and bastable’s rants each day.

    “30 young thugs”

Anyone male under 25 years of age seems to have the ‘thug’ (or potential thug) label slapped on him these days.

Soon there may be a law against young people congregating in groups of more than 3. And don’t laugh – someone tried to bring this about in Howick, Auckland.

Thanks DPF. I’ll make sure I get all my news from anonymous buffoons from now on.

[DPF: If the report is incorrect, then no doubt someone will correct it. But the size of the gathering is very pertinent]

This from further into Ozzy’s post.

“Now the local member of the dick-licking NZ Council for Civil Liberties is passing the blame to all but the young criminals that started the problem. Of course it is all race related!”

    Too right, Oz.

Dare to be a Danyl eh? I think you better keep paying for your news from the celebrity buffoons of the MSM. Chewing gum for the mind from them, and you won’t need to think.

Whoops! Just realised Mclauchlan (11.18 post) is the Danyl who blogs on the DomPost site.

He would defend the MSM wouldn’t he? And sorry Danyl, your stuff comes across as contrived and boring compared with another DomPost blogger, tear-off-a-limb shareholder advocate Sheppard. I don’t understand why Sheppard as a free-enterpriser doesn’t strike out with his own blog instead of swimming with the dull MSM and propping up FairlyFucked Media NZ for free.

I’ve just had lunch with a friend who lives in Martinborough. His takes on this:-

    1. Gunshot – locals say this is unlikely as there would have been few in that small community who didn’t hear it. Suggestion is media talking this up.

    2. 30 vs 2 – The vigilante chap is apparently not the sharpest tool in the drawer. He was ambushed by a small mob, probably more like 10 than 30. He is severely bruised around the face and by all accounts lucky to not be more badly injured

    3. Bulglaries – had been on increase. The crims are getting more confident including breaking into a vineyard property, stepping over sleeping seasonal workers and helping themselves to TVs etc. I say had been on the increase as there are now fewer breakins

    4. Organisation – The mostly young burglars are into meth and are being organised by a recently-released crim who has settled in the area. He is apparently quite a clever and has managed to stay below the radar.

Can’t qualify all this, but my mate is a pretty straight up bloke and tells things like they are.

Good on the sherriff & his men for deciding not to just lie down and take it from local crims.

But if you’re big enough to discharge a firearm in a public place (illegal and very dangerous) then you should be big enough to justify your actions to the law. If you were doing the right thing, then you should have no trouble doing this.

Of course someone with an employment history who lives within the community in question knows nothing about while some left wing dickhead who is paid to attack everything conservative should be our only source on information eh billy.

And chronic why don’t you tell us about the lawful intent of 30 people confronting a security patrol in the early hourse of the morning. And do your report from the street at three am.

Til then you’re just another shit talking crapweasle. Unlike Oswald who has actually worked in a job dealing with the crims.

Must be great to be such an expert from your nice warm safe armchair.

Hello Murray and lovely to see you too.

I claim no knowledge of what happened, I asked a question. You may find in your new academic home that it is important to know the difference between a statement and a question, one clue is this “?” little symbol, why not ask one of your teachers to explain it to you.

Do they have a Certificate of Approval as an employee of a licenced security guard (aka a security guards’ licence) as required under the law, or is this just one more law thay broke that night?

Funny how you right whingers are so keen to defend law breakers.

Just for general info…there is no legal requirement at this time for anyone to hold a COA to be a security guard, although there is a bill before parliament to have this changed.
So borker you get your facts right before trying to promote a flamewar.

  18. Oswald Bastable (32) Says:

I was reporting what I had heard from a couple of the locals- I know a few of the chaps on the ‘police sanctioned’ patrol. That makes me at least as credible as the MSM, who did the same- talked to a couple of locals.

The real issue here is this is a community driven to despairation by a few thugs and theives in their midst. Right or wrong they fought back- they did something while the police were toothless.

It’s easy to sneer at a group of country chaps ‘playing vigilantee’. But what do YOU do about crime in your community? cower behind doors and hope they will rob somebody else?

We are talking about 45 reported burglaries in a town of about 800 households. Many of those are empty most of the year as they are holiday homes. There are probably quite a few unpleasant suprises awaiting their owners. In addition, these scumbags were TARGETING the elderly.

There has been much said about the community taking ownership of community problems. For better or worse these people DID.

Perhaps not an ideal result, but a result never the less. The burglaries have stopped- for now…
