Winston still alive

A spy reports:

MT ALBERT BI-ELECTION

MESSAGE TO OUR MEMBERSHIP

So can only bi-sexuals stand in a bi-election?

15 May 2009

Dear Members,

After careful consideration and consultation with many members, electorates and former MP’s including Winston Peters and Peter Brown, the Board has decided that it is not in the best interests of New Zealand First to stand a candidate in the Mt Albert by-election.

There are many reasons against standing and we can already see in the media build up to the event that there has been absolutely no discussion of policy. This by-election is basically a two –horse war and is simply not our fight.

Our main focus at this time is to rebuild our infrastructure and lines of communication so we are prepared for the next election.

We are currently working on establishing a new web-site with options for committees and members to log in and share information. Obviously some of our members are not computer literate; therefore we need Electorates to create telephone trees and news letters to reliably relay messages.

Now is the time for our Electorates to be pro-active in raising funds and broadening our membership.

Let’s keep our chins up and get pro-active. Our policies are working for New Zealand and this will become more obvious as time wears on.

Soon New Zealand will be calling for New Zealand First and Winston. When that time comes we must have our infrastructure in place so we are ready to answer that call.

Brendan Horan,
Media Liaison

Yes just like Christians believe Christ will return one day when called, so does the NZ First cult wait, ready for the call from the masses for the return of Winston?

Can you have a two-horse war? Or was Brendan just wary not to raise the whole racing-money-for-Winston thing again by calling it a two-horse race?

Our policies are working for New Zealand and this will become more obvious as time wears on. Through greater stakes for Group One races and the Super Gold card, we will rebuild NZ!

Um, Waterview, Auckland Governance … who the hell are you trying to kid Brendan? The reason NZFirst is not standing is that the result if they did would be extremely embarrassing for them.

Yes. And keeping them compus mentus long enough to become computer literate is their real challenge.

And DPF – not sure I appreciate the slur-by-association vis a vis Christians and Winston supporters. Still, I guess it’s nice of you to toss borker and MNIJ a little anti-Christian morsel to get them all lathered up :)

    How about this….

Anderton retires, Labour decide not to stand a candidate on the premise that they want the seat to stay with a smaller party.

Winston stands, and receives the support of Goff and Labour.

This scenario is not as outrageous as it sounds, given the people of Wigram are dumb enough to vote for Anderton then voting for Winston would not be beyond them.

Nor is it to be thought…that man is either the oldest or the last of earth’s masters, or that the common bulk of life and substances walks alone. Winston was, Winston is, and Winston shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, He walks serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen.

Tommy Gear knows the gate. Tommy Gear is the gate. Tommy Gear is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Tommy Gear. He knows where Winston broke through of old, and where He shall break through again. He knows where Winston trod earth’s fields, and where He still treads them, and why no one can behold Him as He treads. By His smell can men somtimes know him near, but of his semblance can no man know.

He walks unseen and foul in lonely places where the Words have been spoken and the Rites howled through at their Seasons. The wind gibbers with His voice, and the earth mutters with His consciousness. Winston bends the forest and crushes the city, yet may not forest or city behold the hand that smites. Tauranga hath known Him, and what man knows Tauranga? The ice desert of the South and the sunken isles of Ocean hold stones where His seal is engraven, but who hath seen the deep frozen city or the sealed tower long garlanded with seaweed and barnacles? Peter Dunne is his cousin, yet can he spy Him only dimly. Iä! Shub-Niggurath! As a foulness shall ye know Him. His hand is at your throats, yet ye see Him not.

Man rules now where He ruled once; He shall soon rule where man rules now. After summer is winter, and after winter summer. He waits patient and potent, for here shall He reign again.

Here’s a question, and I wonder if someone out there could assist?

NZ First got 4.5% of the list vote but no party seat, so was not represented in the current parliament. Now I know this scenario is unlikely, but what would happen if NZ first stood a candidate in Mt Albert and actually pulled it off and won? Would they get a number of MP’s back in off the back of gaining an electorate seat?

And if that is the case, why the hell are they not standing the highest profile candidate they could?

Of course the one obvious difference between NZ First and Christianity is that Chrstianity is the sigularly most successful movement (in sheer force of numbers, wealth, governmental influence) that the planet has ever witnessed. It is multiplying exponentially in every culture on earth to this day because of it is primarily a spiritual movement and not bound to cultural form. This, of course, is one of the reasons why small minded people take pot shots at this phenomena – the ultimate tall poppy syndrome.

There are a number of religious men who regularly comment on this blog. Most of the time, they talk a lot of sense, and seem to be intelligent guys, but quite frankly I do get a bit sick of you lot flogging your superstition here. Christianity is flourishing in places which share a lot in common with the Middle East 2000 years ago: poverty, ignorance, total lack of education, superstition and idolatry. Your god does not impress thinking men. If you want to believe in faerie tales, go right ahead, that’s your right. But don’t make out like it’s a reasonable belief, based on anything other than what you were told as a child, an old book and your own imaginings. Religion is hocus pocus, fakery and lies, nothing more. While reasonable men (such as PhilBest, for example) are capable of practicing their religion without hurting others (compared to fatal exorcisms, for example) I will defend their right to practice it. But don’t bring it here, to a place of intellectual debate. Religion is out of its depth when it comes to reason.

Christopher – You’re normally sharper than this “Religion is out of its depth when it comes to reason.”. Quite an unreasonable statement I would have thought given that, quite literally billions of humans believe in a God. Is their lack of reason any more pronounced than your own?

And who approved you the arbiter of what should and shouldn’t be debated here? I would have thought that privilege belonged to our kindly host.

Back to Winston – seriously what has happened to him? Has he gone to ground? Surely someone has seen him about inebriated and/or verbally abusing taxi drivers like the good old days?

  36. Christopher (425) Says:

Quite an unreasonable statement I would have thought given that, quite literally billions of humans believe in a God. Is their lack of reason any more pronounced than your own?

In my opinion, yes it is. Religion cannot be argued from a standpoint of reason. At the end of the day, one man has faith and the other does not, and nothing either of them says will convince the other, but one man argues from objective evidence, and the other does not. I have more respect for my friend Sam, who states that his faith cannot be backed up by reason but that he knows in his heart that it’s right, than I do for someone who attempts to twist the meaning of logic to support their arguments. You only have to look at the creationism debate to see the kind of contortions the religious must go through just to have a platform to argue from.

However, if you believe that there is some obvious point that I am missing here, then by all means point it out to me or send me a link. I would dearly love for there to be some higher power which will collect my soul when I die and give me a life of everlasting happiness. That would be grand. Believe me, I’m ready and willing to be convinced. But I am not convinced, not even close.

So, you may think it unreasonable to declare illogical the arguments of those who have no objectively verifiable reason to believe in God other than what they have been told by others, but I do not.

As I said above, however, I respect your right to do so. I just ask that you not justify it on the grounds of logic.

And who approved you the arbiter of what should and shouldn’t be debated here? I would have thought that privilege belonged to our kindly host.

Quite right. I withdraw that demand.

AG – I actually argued about this with Fish in person when he was here, and TBH I found him to be so far up his own arse that neither I nor my friends could take him seriously. I’ll read that piece, but in the past I’ve found that most of the time he simply defines concepts to suit his own view and then purports to challenge conventional wisdom, rather than taking ideas as they are properly expressed and arguing from them. His argument for limits of freedom of speech is a classic example.

But anyway, as I said, I’ll give it a read.

“His argument for limits of freedom of speech is a classic example.”

But he’s actually right about that claim … every concept of “free speech” has within it a set of limits that actually defines the concept … so everyone is pro-free speech, until they run into speech they don’t like (or, that they believe falls outside the permitted boundaries of what speech should be allowed to be used for).

So Fish doesn’t argue “freedom of speech SHOULD be limited”, he simply points out “anyone who claims to be pro-free speech actually supports limits on it – because any concept of “free speech” has no content absent such limits”.
