  2. OECD rank 22 kiwi (2,528) Says:

I see the All Whites are following the trend set by the All blacks on Saturday night. Looks like John Key will want to set an earlier election then in 2011, before the Rugby World Cup.

  3. Simon (331) Says:

America’s liberation of Iraq is currently being played out in Iran. Bush got it right.

    Talking to yourself again Phil?

  8. wreck1080 (2,009) Says:

Is it better to get Swine flu sooner than later? From what I read, the main danger is that the swine flu virus will mutate into a more deadly form.

Current swine flu sufferers are only showing mild symptoms. I assume the infected people develop some resistance.

So, would it not be better to get swine flu now, while it is not too bad. This may provide some immunity to a future more deadly strain of the flu.

Maybe if any immunoligist could comment please.

  9. philu (10,919) Says:

    yeah inventory..

are you quite blase about the fact we are fast headed for economic and environmental cliffs…?

..and at a time when urgent action/reform is the massive (ignored) elephant in the room..

    ..our ‘leaders’ are doing s.f.a…

..not seeing more than a half an inch past the end of their noses..

    ..and operating purely on self/class-interest..

    ..and the protection of patches..

the neville chamberlains of our time..eh..?

..and this is how history will remember them..

..them that knew..had the power to act..and did nothing..

    ..but hey..!

    …eh..?

  10. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

    wreck,

Another reason to get it now rather than later is that because of the relatively few cases, you’d actually get treatment at this stage. (I could be wrong – I’m not a medical professional.)

  11. dime (3,925) Says:

what exactly are the symptoms of swine flu? do they differ from regular flu? im pretty sure my buddy had it last week.. he said a bottle of vodka seemed to kill it off heh

  12. philu (10,919) Says:

    good point/question wreck..

i was thunking that just earlier this morning..

..does getting the mild version now..

..give you immunity against the nastier ones predicted further down the track..?

  13. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

what exactly are the symptoms of swine flu? do they differ from regular flu?

As I understand it, no – just worse. The interview I saw with a Kiwi who had it, he said that it was the most pain he’d ever felt in his sinuses.

When will people understand you can’t believe a god-damn thing the media says?

There is not a single thing they say that isn’t cleared and approved in Labour’s offices.

It must be nice to have such a simplistic mindset. I wonder which village is missing this particular idiot?

  15. philu (10,919) Says:

  17. philu (10,919) Says:

    that’d be those ‘willfully ignorant’..again..

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  18. philu (10,919) Says:

did you see how the interview went..?

  29. Whafe (636) Says:

Again Gyon sounded like a complete twot on the news this evening…… So why does John Key actually have to tell people exactly why Key kicked him for touch? I trust his judgement……

What happened to media whom are not biased? They seem as rare as rocking horse shit!!!!!

  30. philu (10,919) Says:

how to piss $9 million up against a wall..?

..hold a non-binding referendum on the ‘anti-smacking’ bill..

  33. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    Philu:

..you really are quite infantile..simple even..eh..?

I was actually hoping you’d respond along these lines. It’s simply reflecting back your approach on this thread – an approach I’ve often seen you use.

As for the “non-binding referendum on the ‘anti-smacking’ bill”… where to start?

First, I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that National made an election promise out of a non-binding referendum on this issue. Second, it’s not a bill, it’s an Act of Parliament. Third, you say “..which police/key confirm is ‘working’..” but one can quibble over what “working” means in this context. Sue Bradford talked up the likely outcomes of the legislation, and yet I still see regular reports of child abuse and infanticide. If by “working” you simply mean the Police haven’t been inundated with complaints, as some predicted, well that’s a separate issue altogether.

  34. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

I find it interesting that sonic appears after phool goes, and then chronic mysteriously vanishes and back comes phool, with his full stop fetishism.

Huff duf – sonic and philu are not the same person. sonic is a tiny scotsman with a huge chip on his shoulder while philu is a 58 years old ex-con, druggie serial-bludger. They do share a love of disrupting KB threads with their moaning piffle. We’re well used to it.. well I am after several years of conditioning!

  35. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

    sorry.. Hurf Durf !

  36. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    Philu:

Actually, if you’re as principled as you claim, you’ll lay the blame for the $9 million non-binding referendum on the ‘anti-smacking’ legislation with… Helen Clark!

As DPF blogged at the time:

$10 million to be wasted by Helen.

It is outrageous that Helen Clark is going to waste $10 million of taxpayer money by scheduling the referendum on the anti-smacking law after the election.

Asked why it could not be held at the same time as the election, which must be held by November 15, she replied: “Just in terms of sheer organisation, I do not think that is possible”.

That is simply nonsense. The election date is around five months away, and the Chief Electoral Office is a very capable operator who can handle the addition of a referendum question. They read the newspapers and would have contingency plans for if the petition succeeds and is held with the election.

Everyone knows that Helen is lying when she says it is not logistically possible. The truth is that politically Helen does not want it at the same time as the election, so she is prepared to waste $10 million in order to advantage herself.

So, Philu, what did you have to say at the time? That’s right, if you read through that thread, you had absolutely nothing to say about the referendum cost. You had lots of childish insults to share with Kiwiblog readers though. Does that make you “quite infantile..simple even..eh..?”

I look forward to your response (using those high standards of debate that you mentioned at 6:40 pm).

  37. philu (10,919) Says:

is helen clark still prime minister..?

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  38. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    Philu:

Ok, so now your complaint about the $9 million cost is shown to be piss and wind, you have nothing constructive to say?

..have you ever even attempted to discuss/argue an idea..?
..you really are quite infantile..simple even..eh..?
..try and drum up an idea/thought in that little brain of yours..eh..?

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

  39. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

Interesting that Sue Bradford thinks an exercise in democracy is “a waste of money” – sheesh – it’s not even HER money!

    http://keepingstock.blogspot.com/2009/06/bradford-on-democracy.html

And Philip Ure agrees – quelle surprise!

  40. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

    was this it phil?

was that your high standard of debate?

your brain is clearly nuked from years of recreational chemicals.

get a job and stop living the life of a welfare parasite.

  41. philu (10,919) Says:

    i repeat..nosty..

is helen clark still prime minister..?

(you don’t ‘get’ that..?..sit down..i’ll explain further for you..)

..key has had no problem with shelving heaps of other stuff clark did/said/promised..

    ..why not this travesty..?

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  42. Father Ted (85) Says:

Do you go to Church poor philu? Helen flew away and now John is running the circus.

  43. philu (10,919) Says:

    yes father..could you tell nosty..?

..he dosn’t appear to have got the news..

..he still thinks clark is running the show..

    (bless him..!..eh..?..)

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  44. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    Philu:

After reading your 8:12pm comment, there’s no polite way of saying this: you’re a fucking idiot!

Let me make it simple for you.

We could have had an election and referendum last year. This would have been a non-binding referendum at no significant additional cost to the taxpayer. Unfortunately, thanks to Helen Clark’s political manipulations, we didn’t have that referendum. John Key actually promised to go ahead with it, given the public agitation for one at the time. Just because you happen to support the legislation, and therefore disagree with the premise of the referendum, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t go ahead.

Supporting evidence – a speech from John Key before the election:

    National: Valuing Families
    by Hon John Key, Leader

    08 September 2008

Speech to the Family First New Zealand Forum on the Family

It’s appropriate before I finish today that I touch on a particular issue that I know many parents and many in this room are concerned about. That is Parliament’s move last year to amend Section 59 of the Crimes Act.

That amendment started as a bill promoted by Sue Bradford. I opposed that bill. I opposed it because I thought it would expose good parents to criminal investigation and prosecution.

Despite my opposition, and the opposition of many National Party MPs, there were enough votes to pass that bill. Labour was determined to force it through. I was convinced our parliamentarians could do better. I did not want to see a society where we criminalised good parents for doing their jobs. Nor did I want to see a society where the law could be used to shield people who abused their children.

So I called for a compromise, I sat around the negotiating table and I argued the case for Kiwi mums and dads.

The result was a revised amendment that I believe went a lot further to protect good parents from being criminalised than would have been the case under Sue Bradford’s original bill.

Since that time, a large number of Kiwis have signed a petition calling for a referendum on the changes to Section 59. I support Kiwis’ right to have their say in this way. National’s view is that the referendum should have been held in conjunction with the upcoming election – but Labour has chosen instead to delay it until next year.

But, irrespective of the timing, National will watch the result of the referendum closely.

Last year, when I supported the revised amendment I was clear about my intentions. I continue to be so. If I can see compelling evidence that this legislation is not working, and I am Prime Minister of New Zealand, then I will work to change it. To this point, I haven’t seen such evidence.

Let me repeat that for you:

Since that time, a large number of Kiwis have signed a petition calling for a referendum on the changes to Section 59. I support Kiwis’ right to have their say in this way. National’s view is that the referendum should have been held in conjunction with the upcoming election – but Labour has chosen instead to delay it until next year.

So take off your partisan blinkers and reflect on Helen Clark’s actions – and then try and actually debate the issue for a change.

  45. Southern Raider (1,317) Says:

I’m never going to give Barnados any money. That Liberal prick representing them has put me right off.

On the news states that the wording of the question is wrong and suggestion and then goes onto state that smacking can never be considered as part of good parenting.

So its suggestive to have a democratic vote yet not suggestive for the head of a childrens group to state that anyone with a differing view is a criminal?

  46. philu (10,919) Says:

i repeat..is helen clark still prime minister..?

    (and..)

let me repeat this for you..

“..To this point, I haven’t seen such evidence. .”

    that was key..

..he is now the prime minister..

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  47. Southern Raider (1,317) Says:

PhilU how much does it cost a year for us to keep up your benefit?

Now thats a waste of time and tax payers money.
