A North Korean court today sentenced two female US journalists to 12 years in a labour camp, state media reported.

The “trial confirmed the grave crime they committed against the Korean nation and their illegal border crossing”, the Korean Central News Agency said without specifying the offence.

It said the court, after a five-day trial, “sentenced each of them to 12 years of reform through labour”.

T.K. Norris:……….As a matter of natural justice, I think supressed evidence should remain supressed. That is because the evidence has not been tested through cross-examination so could give a misleading impression being put out into the public arena.

Thats why it shouldn’t be suppressed in the first place…Besides what do impressions matter once the case has been determined. The important thing should be that Justice is transparent and that Judges are accountable for their orders.

It was only last week that Dr Hone Kaa, a professional Maori from way back, announced that he was shocked and surprised that a recent report showed that being Maori and child abuse were connected. FFS.
This is the same Hone Kaa who, back when he was just a church minister, stated that the only way Maori would ever get “ahead ” was for them to take to the streets with guns.

Is the file on the Kahui twins still open ?

Well I hope they assert their rights. The bloody French insist on everything being bilingual even though them and the Belgians are the only ones who insist on calling a bread roll a baguette.

I imagine it persists only to cover the theoretical possibility of an appeal by the Crown.

As I understand it the decision was made by the Court of Appeal and must be followed by any lower court. I think the distinction between the suppressed evidence and that allowed was that the suppressed evidence had a prejudicial component that was irrelevant to the Crown case whereas the evidence about Robin and Laniet had a direct bearing on motivation in this case.

Knowing what the suppressed evidence is/was, I find it hard to understand why, considering all the hearsay stuff around Robin and Laniet which the defence were allowed to introduce.

Apparently Sweden’s “Pirate Party” has won a seat in the EU with about 7% of the vote. This is a disaster- yes, a great leap forward for Pirate representation, but now the Ninja Party will demand seats of their own to ensure representation as a major indigenous cultural identity (I have no idea how many Ninjas are covertly present on this blog, but that’s ninjas for you!).

Such suppression orders should not be allowed to persist beyond the point at which no further legal action can be taken.

The law of defamation is entirely sufficient to product an individual’s rights beyond that point in time.
