What’s happening in Mt Albert tonight ?. I thought the rugby test was in Dunedin.

  2. alex Masterley (917) Says:

I voted, so I can do what I want and read what i want.
Oh, and WTF was Damien O’Conner doing sitting in Okra Kingsland Auckland this morning. There can’t be any parliamentary business for him here!

  3. Tuija (220) Says:

I don’t know, maybe because he is not an MP

  4. Say Goodbye to Hollywood (490) Says:

Be like that. I’m off to vote. :P

  5. MarkMcLT (41) Says:

What if I vote in Mt Albert but live in Chicago?

    (faxed my vote yesterday)

  7. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

Tuija – get with it! O’Connor returned to the House when Cullen cut and ran. He is a Labour list MP, so that makes Alex’s question a valid one.

“I don’t know, maybe because he is not an MP”

Another leftie bites the dust……..comment credibility of tuija = 0

  9. burt (5,436) Says:

Last year during the general election (having two phone lines into this house) I got two calls from the [insert_self_serving_law_breaking_corrupt_party_name_here] asking me if I had been out to vote for [insert_self_serving_law_breaking_corrupt_party_name_here]

I wonder if the [insert_self_serving_law_breaking_corrupt_party_name_here] will use such illegal tactics in this by-election?

  10. Tuija (220) Says:

    Has Cullen left ?

  11. Tuija (220) Says:

    Shit when did that happen

  12. rochellerees (22) Says:

burt it is not illegal to call people (or knock on their door) and ask whether they have voted and if they need a lift to the polling booth. It is however illegal to tell them who to vote for on election day.

  14. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

rochelle – is it legal to put the fear of God into immigrants by telling them that they MUST vote or face prosecution, accompanying them not only to the polling station but into the booth itself, and telling them who to vote for?

  15. lofty (1,199) Says:

tuija, is embarrassed and rightly so……….tosser…it just proves you are nothing more than a shit stirring knowledgeless troll, wanker doesn’t even know the makeup of the left wing oppositon…hahahaha..your comments no longer have any credibility on this blog pal.

  16. burt (5,436) Says:

Yes I understand the law on this.

She said (both times – same caller) Have you been out to vote for the [insert_political_party_with_zero_regard_for_rule_of_law_name_here] party. Both times I asked for the callers name (caller ID was blocked) and both times she refused to supply her name. I guess I could have called the police and laid a complaint but the chance of having it investigated when it is a [insert_political_party_with_zero_regard_for_rule_of_law_name_here] party breach of electoral law is, as we know, remote.

  17. Don the Kiwi (682) Says:

One of the essential things to advise Liabor party voters that, contrary to the actions of a large number of Liabor MP’s,

Mount Albert is not an instruction.

  18. rochellerees (22) Says:

burt if that is true that is a problem. The Labour Party is very strict about training volunteers to not do that sort of thing.

  19. burt (5,436) Says:

    rochellerees

Of course it is a problem. I think your view of how well the Labour party adhere to the law and the reality are different animals. I made it very clear to the caller the first time that they were doing an illegal thing and that didn’t stop them the second time. Guess that “training” is a waste of space when there is an election to win.

EDIT: As an aside – I live in a safe Labour seat so it is all a bit moot really. Pissed me off all the same that Labour show no respect for the law when it is expedient not to.

  20. rochellerees (22) Says:

burt, my view of how well they adhere to the law is based on what I have seen. I have seen the door-canvassers and phoners being briefed and trained before they do it. I’m not disputing that what you said happened happened. My advice would be to anyone who ever has that happen would be to call our headquarters. I think you’d find we’d be fairly concerned and get the person responsible taken off canvassing duties.

  21. burt (5,436) Says:

    rochellerees

Taken off canvassing duties… What about charging them with an illegal practice? If what you say is correct and they are told what not to do and what they should be doing then the woman was deliberately breaking the law.

How would you react if you got a call ‘have you been out to vote National yet?’

  22. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

burt – did the caller have an Indian accent?

  23. burt (5,436) Says:

    I2

lol, no and reporting it would have been Worthless.

  24. Tuija (220) Says:

Lofty firstly although I have never met you i think that I can say with some degree of certainty that I would never be you “pal’ and secondly I made a mistake I am pleased that you are happy
and thirdly regarding the veracity of my intelligence . May I direct you to this comment

    Worth gold to the Nats.
That riding on JK’s performance, and the fresh face of Mellissa, stacks up to a close but certainly winnable by electiion

    Guess who said that?

  25. rochellerees (22) Says:

burt yes I wouldn’t be adverse to someone doing that being charged. Our door and phoning scripts have big capital letters on them instructing canvassers NOT to tell people how to vote, or anything along those lines.

  26. burt (5,436) Says:

    rochellerees

    Good to hear.

  27. lofty (1,199) Says:

tuija….don’t try and justify yourself to me PAL, hurts when it comes back at you doesn’t it?
You are a most prolific poster of hateful comments on this blog, so yes it gives me warm glow when you trip yourself up, made my day in fact, thanks.

  28. Rachael Rich (171) Says:

Looks like the kiddies from Young Labour can’t read their scripts:

  29. rochellerees (22) Says:

with a little plug for Labour too

What does that mean? They were wearing rosettes?

  30. sonic (2,818) Says:

Asking “have you have voted” is not campaigning nor is saying who you are and which party you represent.

Do you think this might make the difference between Mellisa winning by a landlslide or just winning well?

  31. village idiot (748) Says:

Update – Key washes his hands of Lee.

  32. Adolf Fiinkensein (2,151) Says:

Jesus George on a bicycle! When will the pretentious fuckwits who comment here learn the difference between adverse and averse?

  33. billyborker (1,102) Says:

What is it about the Nationals and Indians? Worth hits on them, Lee takes over their restaurant for her headquarters. Are the Nationals considering outsourcing the government to Bangalore?

  34. Lee C (4,120) Says:

Adolf – I’m still coming to terms with kiwis’ inability to differentiate between ‘loose’ and ‘lose’.

‘Averse’ may be a bridge too far. . .

  35. racer1 (354) Says:

Oh yeah burt, well last election a national supporter tackled me in the street one night and carved a backwards K into my face!
