Many people call themselves Christians but wouldn’t give a beggar a passing look let alone a meal.

David Garrett’s racist comments against Tongan people show what type of person HE really is.

That’s news to me. My understanding is that Garrett’s wife is Tongan, so he might feel entitled to comment.

Christianity is not supposed to be “intellectually rational”. It is a faith. Beyond hearsay, there is no proof of Jesus’ divinity or resurrection. Christians simply seek salvation and believe – and good on them.

I’m glad you qualified your statement.
There are many, of course, who find Christianity not only “intellectually rational”, but one of the few things in this world that makes much sense at all!
As a Christian of 30 years my faith has only become stronger. The relevance of what we see happening in the world today, especially in light of fulfilled prophecy, would, I think, only strengthen a Christian’s faith. But maybe that’s just me …

But Jacinda’s comments in Arizona are right on. It was not polite in American society to ask WHY the World Trade Centre was attacked. It was perfectly acceptable to express outrage which was understandable. But one must not ask why it happened. Jacinda did ask, and although so much of that delightful young woman’s political thoughts are stupid, I say;
“Good on ya”.

Why is it that those who profess to have a social conscience are happy to come up with this kind of bullshit. And this is not aimed at TN but the statement he has made. And the stupidity that is Adern

1) It does not matter why it happened. By asking why, you legitimize the act. Why did Ferdinand Ambach kill? Because… bullshit he killed end of story. Why did Weatherstone kill… bullshit there is no reason that can be offered. And by even attempting you minimize the act and legitimize the “reason”.
2) If a person who was say a BNP member came to NZ and passed comment on treaty claims etc, you would be the first to piss your pants. 3) These “enlightened” types has no problem with China’s expansionist policies. So here is something for you Notts. I was in a war, in this war there was more than 20 000 Chinese troops on the other side. Nearly 50 000 cuban troops. The war was spread over 6 countries. As any-one who was in the southern African war zone from 1973 to 1982. Go through Africa and have a look at real interference by foreign powers. Yet China, Cuba, NK and Iran is okay to trade with? And the USA brought this on them selves?

You use a Maori name, so I am presuming that you have some heritage, Go and read “I tipo” by Sir Apirana Ngata. If Adern did she might have learned something. So obviously did not and has not.

It is a fundamental part of the Bhuddist faith, in fact a lot of their values go beyond what Christ calls Christians to do (although many Christians will dispute this based on Christ expecting us to lay down our lives without having read a single piece of Bhuddist satsung). You might want to look into it.

I don’t agree with the way Dazzaman phrased his post, but I feel much more venom from your posts than I do from his. I also don’t think his post was actually an argument against something good being done for the community.

While I’m aware that it is in the bible to help others, I was not quoting a verse of the bible to you, as I had no intention of ramming it down your throat.

I don’t think my mother would have a problem with my affiliating her voluntary work with her being a Christian – she considers being a Christian as a vital part of who she is. I agree wholeheartedly that you don’t have to be a Christian to be involved with charitable work. I have good friends from many faiths, and simply have more personal experience with Christianity than any other.

My point is not that you have to be “Christian people” to do charity work – you’ll notice in my post that I said I respected Jacinda for helping others. My point is that it is an important part of the Christian faith to help others without seeking reward – I’m not aware of this as being a fundamental part of any other faith, but if it is, or if it’s part of an individual’s personal belief, I would respect it of them, just as I do for the Christian faith.

I would like to repeat that while I don’t like the way Dazzaman made his post, I do not think it reeks of the animosity that comes across in your posts. I maintain that you show ignorance of the Christian faith. If you understood it, you would understand that Christians are not Christians by simply saying so.

Have you actually been in a church more than five times in your life? I have. A wide variety of them.

Replace that number with five years and times it by about two. And no, it wasn’t because I grew up in a Church and stopped believing in angels when I was ten, my involvement began as my teen years were ending.

I’m sorry, I was unaware that I was so ignorant and that you knew my background and the amount of knowledge I have about Christianity. You will note that it was actually Dazzaman who decided to use Christianity as an argument against Jacinda for doing something good for the community that the topic veered towards that direction. I don’t need you to quote the beginning of Matthew chapter six to me thanks very much, be careful of affiliating your mother’s voluntary work with the fact that she is a Christian for the purposes of debating someone on the internet, think upon how she might feel about that. She happens to be a Christian who does charitable work, but you don’t have to be a Christian to be involved with charities therefore to attribute doing charitable work with “Christian people” is a fundamental mistake, because just like the rest of society there are some Christians who help the poor and some Christians that don’t. When you say I will always respect those Christians that do their best to help others, particularly those that do it without wanting any thanks, you can equally replace the word ‘Christian’ with non-Christian, Muslim, homosexual, etc. If you replace the word ‘Christian’ in your post with ‘Jacinda’ and you will see why I was calling Dazzaman out for his comments. Has she ever done anything to fill him with such animosity towards her? Has he ever met her more than five times in his life? He may disagree with her politics, but she did her best to help others in the community.
