Local Authorities routinely undertake uncosted and unassessed projects of all description.

    So why not a cycleway?

  37. thedavincimode (2,769) Says:

Phil, don’t waste your time in general debate.

So John Key and his Notional Government want to send NZ soldiers to Afghanistan because Jemaah Islamiyah were responsible for a bombing in indonesia.

  41. Ross Miller (1,481) Says:

    Memo To: MyNameisJack

The collective amnesia exhibited by our resident lefties and their penchant for rewriting history David Irving style is proof positive of their intellectual cowardice.

The NZ Military have been in Afghanistan for the past six years sent by a Labour/Progressive (Clark/Anderton) Government. Currently there are 150 in theatre with the majority in the PRT located in Bamyan Providence.

Many of us recall the visits by ‘Dear Leader’ complete with combat boots and that ‘nice’ Mr Goff where they lorded the troops for the job they were doing.

Then of course there was that small incident involving Willie Apiata VC … you know, the one where the presentation of his VC was orchestrated by the Government to exclude any representatives from the then Opposition just so’Helun’ could bask in his reflected glory.

None of this ever happened of course. It is only a National Government that would defy the collective will of the people and commit troops to that conflict.

    sigh ……….. puke

    Memo to: Ross Miller

Hey, arsehole, get your facts straight yourself.

    1. I opposed Shrub’s invasion of Afghanistan as both innecessary and counter productive.

    2. I opposed NZ sending any troops to aid Shrub in his War On terror ™

    3. I didn’t get an invite to the VC presenattion, either, but Im over it now.

Fuck off and have another cup of Agent Orange.

[DPF: And that is 30 demerits]

  44. Ross Miller (1,481) Says:

MyNameisJack … your penchant for foul mouth invective is only matched by your stupidity.

Your comment re Agent Orange beggars belief.

    But then you beggar belief.

  45. Jack5 (2,486) Says:

MNIJ at 10.50:”… opposed Shrub’s invasion of Afghanistan…”

But MNIJ, did you oppose the Russian invasion of Afghanistan that was supported by NZ leftists like Keith Locke?

  46. Jeff83 (751) Says:

Pretty common knowledge that most true lefties opposed our support of Afganistan – hence why the Alliance splintered, was the issue that drove them over the edge. Labour are pragmatists, and supported it in the most limited way they pretty much could get away with.

Personally I supported the US actions in this regard. Afganistan was a regime I found totally abhorrent. The failing of the US was choosing to go into Iraq and getting bogged down in a fight they really shouldnt of been fighting and damaged their reputation beyond any benefit they may of gained from installing a regime which may be slightly more favourable to the US, and would say it isnt still exactly pro US (which would be pretty hard to do considering the number of deaths from a) sanctions and b) subsequnt wars.

On an interesting topic I hope DPF blogs on see Aus are putting a paper out considering reducing the voting age to 16 (story linked below). Could be quite an interesting point. Personally overall in favour of it, many 16 and 17 year olds are just as, if not more informed than some others re political issues. Many also arent. Be interested to see people’s perspective on this. They say it might favour “left leaning” parties, dont think this is neccessarily true.

  47. Brian Smaller (3,409) Says:

Is the man unhinged? Does he borrow drugs from other ministers?

    Afghanistan is not our fight.

It is our fight. Our troops who are already there are part of a force that is fighting Islamic totalitarianism. Rather badly as it turns out because people, mainly lefties and those who want to appease them, wont acknowledge the fact that we are in a war that has already been declared against us. Afghanistan is just one theatre of that war. It is currently being fought there, in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Just because bombs have not gone off in Wellington does not mean that we are not involved.

    No, you’re just a dick.

  53. thedavincimode (2,769) Says:

    “Afghanistan is not our war.”

    Interesting Borker.

But then, does war really entail any form of proprietary right? Isn’t it just a kind of a ‘me too’ activity – kind of like bull-rush in the playground at lunchtime?

Perhaps, your comment reflects your unimpeachable principles, and moral and ethical objection to war generally. As manifested in your decision that you would rather be jailed than go Vietnam (shortly before you did the runner in order to underscore the credibility the position you had adopted).

In fact as I recall from your emotional contributions on ANZAC day, you indicated an unwillingness to even go to war on our shores if it arrived here, although you did state that you MIGHT consider enlisting in a non-combatant role. Was that due to your point blank objection to war, or because you felt that it would allow you to focus on the greater and more relevant task of theorising on the ethics of defending this country without the risk of the odd bullet hole in your pencil case.

But back to your point specifically, if Afghanistan isn’t OUR war, and most particularly isn’t YOUR war, then whose war is it? Has it been lost or left behind? Should we advertise to find the owner? Could we sell it and raise some cash, and if we did, would anyone notice it had gone?

  54. Ross Miller (1,481) Says:

Folks … I’m out of here. Having attended the funerals of two Vietnam veterans this last week and know of a further three deaths the comments by that proud representative of the Left re Agent Orange is just too much.

MyNameisJack hides behind a pseudonym. Got the coward bit right.

  62. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

    Business migrant rules relaxed

Rich investors and entrepreneurs will find it easier to get residency in New Zealand following the Government’s decision to relax the rules.

Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee and Immigration Minister Jonathan Coleman said since 2007 only 23 people had entered the country under the old business migration policy.

As a result the criteria was being overhauled and the barriers reduced.

Now investors with $10 million could get residency in three years without any English skills or business experience and no age limit.

The similar criteria previously required $20 million for four years with four years business experience.

Other investor and entrepreneur policy has also been changed.

The ministers said there was anecdotal evidence that New Zealand was missing out on desperately needed capital.

Emphasis mine. Anecdotal??!? What planet is Gerry on. There is cast-iron evidence that NZ businesses have been systematically hollowed out by Australian and US based private equity firms for years now. That aside, kudos for changing the eligibility criteria. I’d would have taken it further.

And what’s the answer from the Notional government?

More immigrants with no understanding of the language, the history, the culture – just a bucket of money, quite probably earned from running slave labour businesses in China.

A further loosening of “foreign investment” rules so the last bits of the farm can be sold off.

When will the fuckwits in government learn that investment and asset stripping are not the same thing?

I agree Redbaiter; I think your comment on Kiwipolitico summed up many of my feelings also regarding the left’s attitude and reactions to criticism.

Somethings borked. Just refresh your page manually.

  80. Bok (740) Says:

Phil I love the fact that you think I am obese….

I realize that the drugs having made you psychotic you will find this hard to understand…

You see when I made that statement, I was referring to the fact that it is now proven beyond doubt, that THC destroys your brain cells and that is why you are so incredibly stupid, and cannot be argued with…

Then you go and prove it by copying me (pretty original) but using a nonsense argument. You see the argument hinges on the fact that
you need brain cells to be able to argue, and dope destroys it…vs your argument that body weight has something to do with brain power. mmmmm.

Do you really need me to embarrass you further by providing links to some of the most … ah never mind. Go smoke a joint.

could you walk me/thru that jump from obese..to thc..?

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  82. Bok (740) Says:

Jesus you really should hold your breath for a day or so. Safari suit… was that with the voices that keeps on talking to you and the green little space men that abducted you?

And yep I can see why you cannot make the jump.. one only have to read the crap you post here to understand that..

But alas walking you through would be a total waste of time. There is a spot of grass growing outside and I want to catch a few minutes of that …

  83. philu (10,919) Says:

it was one of those ones with shorts..and socks..and sandals..and stuff..

  85. Komata (595) Says:

And John Campbell, of course, came across as a totally objective and neutral interviewer didn’t he? Yeah right!

His left-wing political bias was, sadly, very evident, as was his total lack of manners and respect towards an elected member of the New Zealand Parliament – specifically a Minister of the Crown.

We appear to have a Holmes-clone en embryo.

And to think that at one time he was a very good, impartial interviewer.

    Times change don’t they?
