  1. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

Is it time to nationalise banks? Listening to Key and English, one would have to think that is what they want.

  2. Murray (8,734) Says:

Well it didn’t take long for some dumass commie to fuck that thread.

  3. jcuknz (648) Says:

They are going on about thee interest rates banks charge but what about the cuts in interests rates the banks have inflicted on people trying to live on their savings. Last year it was 8%, this year it ranges 3.20 to 4.25% unless you are willing to tie up your money for five or six years.

  4. Whafe (636) Says:

Am at home with the flu today, so had the tv on in the background, was great seeign Paul Henry rip into G Espiner re Winny Pete…..

Be interesting to see if this old fart comes back from the grave so to speak, every funeral notice is one less voter for Winny Pete…. No disrespect at all to those whom have passed away…..

  5. jcuknz (648) Says:

If you don’t like the Aussie banks you can always go to Kiwibank or Southland, Taranaki[?] … any others? Timaru something?

  6. Whafe (636) Says:

The whole subject of the banks conjures up all sorts of pissed off thoughts. Reading the article in the SST made many points, but it is hugely odd that in a time of a global recession that the banks profits haev lifted hugely leaves one thinking…

  7. mickysavage (770) Says:

Winston Peters will be going for the redneck vote. Remember he received 4.1% of the vote last time and the Foreshore and Seabed review is the ideal issue for him.

Be afraid National, be very afraid …

  8. Whafe (636) Says:

jcukna – good point, but most of thsoe banks have the same disease the aussie banks haev dare I say it……

  9. Cerium (12,308) Says:

Is Auckland going to be blessed with a Peters v Banks campaign?

  10. philu (10,919) Says:

this one is both ‘interesting’..and non-ideological..

    http://whoar.co.nz/2009/how-blogs-changed-everything/

..but will reddy/bruv still find reason to moan/rail..?

    ..watch this space..!

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  11. philu (10,919) Says:

    but this is ‘ideological’..

..a withering dismissal of the objectivist fantasies of the rand-ites..

    atlas shrugged..?..

    ..meh..!

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  12. Whafe (636) Says:

philu – I always ignore you, as am sure you ignore me.

BUT, Do you not think it is pretty weak as a man to use another blog to advertise your own blog?

I mean you will say that is not your primay objective on Kiwiblog, when in reality it very much seems it is, the vast majority of your links are to your blog site.

  13. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

This has been mentioned on here by another Poster.

Still think it is very weird. Any else got any observations?

Human Rights Commission backs section 59

And one for Murray (but not MNIJ): Would Jesus smack a child?

  15. RightNow (3,915) Says:

Tell me toad, if the greens had to choose either social engineering OR saving the environment, which would it be?
One reason I ask is that before the last election my wife said she was thinking of voting green because she feels strongly about the environment. We had a quick chat and after she regained consciousness she agreed that the greens are a bunch of commie arseholes who don’t give a shit about the environment and are only trying to get their snouts in the trough.

  16. starboard (2,447) Says:

    Human Rights Commission

…bunch of homo’s, pc addicts , greenies , lefties and general undesirables…complete waste of money…

  17. Cerium (12,308) Says:

    Huckabee (huck•-a-be) n.
    1. One who claims to be “Christian” but is politically and/or religiously closed minded, hateful and intolerant.
    2. One who cherry-picks Bible scripture to exploit voter wedge issues like abortion and homosexuality.
    3. American seditionist whose intent is to change the Constitution to a theocracy.
    4. See also Fox News O’Reilly Catholic.

This is obviously a US definition, what would be our equivalent?
Note – this isn’t intended as anti-Christian, it is a poke at the minority Christians-of-convenience.

  18. philu (10,919) Says:

just bringing ‘good reads’..to the largely uneducated..there whafe..

    ..you’ll just ‘ignore’ them..?..then..?

..and carry on in your ‘bliss-full’-state..?

    ..goodonya..!

    ..to each their own..

    ..eh..?

(i..will now return to the second half of your admonition..’as am sure you ignore me.’

    ..you got that..!..in one..!)

..heaven forbid you should increase the sum of your human knowledge by any iota…?

    ..eh..?)

  19. dime (3,925) Says:

Cerium – thats pretty funny. Course, if you make fun of Huckabee, youll have to answer to chuck norris!

point 4 is stupid though. O’Reilly isnt like Huckabee.

  20. Cerium (12,308) Says:

I agree on point 4, I would have thought referencing Hannity or Limbaugh would have been better.

  21. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

“BUT, Do you not think it is pretty weak as a man to use another blog to advertise your own blog?”

It is, but its an appeal that will get you no where with Philip Ure. He’s totally unprincipled and totally shameless about being that way. Any appeal to decency and morality where he is concerned is a waste of time. He’s just unprincipled cowardly lowlife. Always has been, always will be.

Nobody is interested in his blog and what he has to say. He calls it a “news aggregator”. The reality is its just a farce, part of the delusion that he clings to to give his worthless existence some meaning.

He might pick up a few hits from mugs on Kiwiblog who cannot see through his deceit. That’s why he shamelessly link whores here everyday.

Without the few hits he gets from Kiwibloggers who are sucked in, he’d have no hits at all, and then he’d have to face up to his delusion, and recognise the lie that his “news aggregator” is just another item of self deceit by which a useless worthless cowardly slimeball manages to deny to himself what he really is.

  22. NOt1tocommentoften (435) Says:

Starboard – Well supported views of the Human Rights Commission mate! A considered person no doubt.

BTW – ‘homos’ doesn’t require an apostrophe in this case.

  23. Cerium (12,308) Says:

social engineering – what righties accuse lefties of
exploitation – what lefties accuse righties of
both – what they all do by their own definitions

  24. philu (10,919) Says:

    no reddy..it is a news aggregator..by definition..

    ..and thanks reddy..!

..for the chance to refute your falsehoods/ideologically-based prejudices….

The whole subject of the banks conjures up all sorts of pissed off thoughts. Reading the article in the SST made many points, but it is hugely odd that in a time of a global recession that the banks profits haev lifted hugely leaves one thinking…

So, when you thought, what did you think?

Of course bank profits don’t go down in a recession, and in fact, they can even increase. Well, in well run banks, anyway, like ANZ, ComBank, Westpac, NAB which didn’t go down the road of folly the US and UK banks went down.

  30. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

And THE LORD GOD said “thou must rest on the Sabbath, and must enforce rest on all others, and if there are those who will not rest then you must take up your burnished axes and kill them, for IAM THE LORD YOUR GOD

“And if they be unbelievers and thet shalt work on the sabbath, then thou shalt drown them in your spittle because no one must be allowed to think religion is stupid and I don’t exist.”

I found myself herded against a brick wall as they kept on spitting – on my face, my hair, my clothes, my arms.

It was like rain, coming at me from all directions – hitting my recorder, my bag, my shoes, even my glasses.

Big gobs of spit landed on me like heavy raindrops. I could even smell it as it fell on my face.

Somewhere behind me – I didn’t see him – a man on a stairway either kicked me in the head or knocked something heavy against me.

I wasn’t even sure why the mob was angry with me. Was it because I was a journalist? Or a woman? Because I wasn’t Jewish in an Orthodox area? Was I not dressed conservatively enough?

In fact, I was later told, it was because using a tape-recorder is itself a desecration of the Shabbat even though I’m not Jewish and don’t observe the Sabbath.

    Fucking pig ignorant idiots!

  31. Brian Smaller (3,409) Says:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2569900/Son-to-be-taken-on-final-lap

Have these parents got a clue? Their son died and he killed two of his friends because he used the streets of his town as a race-track. They are honouring him with a “final lap”? Fucking morons.

  32. Whafe (636) Says:

MNIJ – I more so think of the amont of gorging that has gone on by banks, as you have gathered am all for a free market etc etc, but I think there is at times a fine line between a free market and gorging…..

And yes it is a given to a certain point that banks will increase profit levels during a recession

  33. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

But whafe, gorging (or did you mean gouging) is waht a free market is all about.

I can make a product for, say $1. I can sell it for $500. What price do you think I should sell it at to avoid gouging? Surely I would be stupid to sell it for a penny less than $500.

The banks are no different, except thay can make a product (loans) at $0 (fiat money) and then sell that product at the highest price they can achieve. Why should they, in a free market, be forced to sell at a lower price than the price the market is prepared to pay?

  34. Whafe (636) Says:

Sorry MNIJ I meant gouging, a wee typo…. did you mean waht or what following my gouging error?

What the market is prepared to pay is different within the banking institution, more like the fuel companies wouldnt you say, bordering on a monopoly….

  35. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

Which is one reason why banks should be nationalised; they are more a public service than a business.

  36. TimG_Oz (672) Says:

Jack it’s time you got over yourself and your Jew bashing. Here’s a better example:

    http://www.jewishjournal.com/hollywoodjew/item/brunos_top_five_jewish_moments_20090622/

Bruno’s top 5 Jewish moments – which includes him wearing a black hat + speedos in the same area as the Journalist from your article.

Also gotta love the Hollywood actors: There is “Wilhelm Schmidt” (Will Smith), Adolf Pittler (Brad Pitt) and lastly, a man Bruno calls “Der Fuhrer.” The camera pans to reveal the photograph of said star: Mel Gibson.

  37. MT_Tinman (1,666) Says:

The other day I met a Green MP I liked.

The same day I met a (very) successful businessman who praised Cullen for backing him and allowing him to succeed.

Now I find I’m starting to agree with some things MNIJ is posting.

HELP ME, I think I’m starting to turn.

  38. Cerium (12,308) Says:

What are you starting to turn to Tinman? There is good (and bad) in all of them, if we recognise and encourage the good no matter what their stripes we will be the better for it, instead of painting ourselves into ideological corners.

  39. philu (10,919) Says:

    cerium..!..settle..!..settle..!

    ..we’ll have no such commonsense..nay..!..wisdom..here..!

  40. s.russell (1,102) Says:

    Brian Smaller,

Further to your post see: teenagers driving slower. Maybe something good has come of this tragedy.

  41. thedavincimode (2,769) Says:

But Phil, I thought you had rebranded yourself as “… the lone blogger at the end of the [galaxy/street/corridor or whatever]!!??

All that effort with the rebranding strategy at the start of the year and you’ve now reduced yourself to a “news aggregator”. I thought that, as the ‘lone blogger’, you were going to bring us all the hard hitting punchy social/economic/political insights from around the globe – collected from your global and intergalactic network of frontline and undercover sources??!! Not the bloody Guardian!! I thought that even a cape and a mask might be on the cards. I really thought you were serious when you almost completed a sentence.

    And now …
“..every morning i scan what i deem to be the quality publications from around the globe..”

Gosh Phil; nothing like a spot of ‘deeming’ to get the old intellect steaming of a winter’s morning, but is this the same thing??!! Aren’t you just copying and recycling someone else’s stuff? Seems like a waste given all the effort at the start of the year.

“..basically..i am the magpie sitting on the fence-post..looking out for/collecting all ‘the shiny bits’..for you..”

On the other hand, hats off to you for being so unfazed by the general impression that you are in fact just a bludger sitting on his arse. I guess that the daily mirror thing is working really well for you:

“mirror mirror on the wall …
… none of this is my fault ..
… but despite that, I can still sit on my bottom all day to make this valuable contribution to society …
… I make a great role model and I hope that Phil Jnr grows up to be just like me …
… I must make him so proud …
… perhaps he tells all his friends about me …
… if only I didn’t have to carry this great burden and could just get a job like everyone else …
… they don’t know how lucky they are …
… this sacrifice is too great … but society needs me …
    … and I love my dog …
    … heh … eh … heh …
    … [repeats]”

    DPF,

Someone seems to have hacked your site. It’s not dangerous to readers at the moment. Details on my blog.

If anyone has David’s mobile number, please text him to alert him to this, and then comment below to say you have, so he doesn’t get a zillion texts.

[DPF: Thanks - have alerted my ISP who do the technical management and hopefully they will fix]

  45. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

Oh, thanks, MNIJ. I’ll text him now.

  46. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

BTW, Ryan, your blog link doesn’t direct people to the correct article

  47. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

    MNIJ,

The article about the hacking is entitled “How many movies has Kevin Bacon made? Viagra.”

  48. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

I’ve altered it a bit to make it more clear on my blog.

Meanwhile, enjoy the hilarity of finding Kiwiblog by Googling “mature women movies nude russian girls”.

  49. Ryan Sproull (4,703) Says:

[DPF: Thanks - have alerted my ISP who do the technical management and hopefully they will fix]

No worries. It seems to be all fixed now.

It was a very very clever system. I wonder how many other sites have the same infection without knowing it. It’s pretty seldom that someone reads websites with a searchbot user agent, and unless you do that, there’s no obvious sign that the site’s been hacked.

Amazing how many American college servers they control.

They don’t like the way the taxpayers of NZ dress? Then they can fuck off and not accept NZ taxpayer’s dollars.

  54. Buggerlugs (1,609) Says:

Nice to see the Left has now gone completely feral and showing it’s true racist colours via non-stop onanist Jack…

On a more worrying note – I see the rimu desks etc have disappeared from select committee rooms. After querying Parl Services myself and getting no response, I asked my local MP – who has received “nothing to see here, move along” responses and is getting quite fired up about the whole thing.

Does anyone know where all this heart rimu has gone? Is Phil Goff building a Trojan Horse? (Oh, no, he already has lol).

  55. Nomestradamus (2,223) Says:

    Buggerlugs:

Have you checked whether these guys can help you with your enquiries:

    Wellington, Dec 18 NZPA

Up to four Labour Party staffers face the sack after they were allegedly caught stealing alcohol from a parliamentary Christmas function.

Police were called to Parliament in the early hours of today after the four people were seen loading surplus alcohol from the Press Gallery Christmas party into a car on the precinct.

One of the men was detained and arrested at the scene, allegedly with over $400 worth of wine in his car. He has been charged with theft.

The man’s accomplices escaped, but NZPA understands security footage shows four people were involved in the alleged theft — all of them junior Labour Party staffers.

Also, Phil Goff shared his views on that incident (“strikingly beautiful” “totally unacceptable”), so perhaps he may care to comment on this one too.

  57. Nookin (1,565) Says:

Reid appealed against both conviction and sentence. His appeal against conviction was dismissed. His appeal against sentence was allowed primarily because it was out of kilter with other sentences. It does not automatically follow that he will be released any earlier. In fact, both the High Court and Court Of Appeal suggest that he is going to be in for a long long time.
The following passage appears in the Court Of Appeal decision:
“We emphasise in this context that the primary sentences are life
imprisonment and preventive detention. They are indeterminate sentences. Further,
life sentences carry the possibility of recall even if a person is released. The
minimum periods reflect comparatively the seriousness of the offending but of
course do not say anything about when the appellant might be released. In this case,
Chisholm J considered it would take a “miraculous transformation” in the appellant
before women would be safe if he was released back onto the streets: at [35].”

  58. starboard (2,447) Says:

..since he, Reid..asswipe..appealed his conviction and lost he should have say , 5 more years added for wasting our time/money. His appeal against sentence reduced because outa kilter??? Spare me fuckin days!!…give the prick to me I’ll fix the son of a…
