Prime onto Freeview

July 31st, 2009 at 2:03 pm by David Farrar

John Drinnan writes:

Broadcasting Minister Jonathan Coleman is expected to announce soon that Prime Television will join Freeview in the next six to eight weeks.

This is a good move as it will get all free to air channels on Freeview, and is a good contra for TVNZ 6 and 7 going onto Sky.

    “A good contra”
Surely you are taking the piss.
On one hand we have two channels filled with very old rubbish, a repeat of the news and a show hosted by a bloke who ususally spends his days blogging about his mums recipes.

On the other hand we have Jeremy Clarkson and a goodie bag of other great stuff.

It would be akin to you swapping blogs with me!

I seldom watch TVNZ6 but TVNZ7 has good stuff on it. I’m so over Top Gear, how long can you watch the same joke and stop finding it funny?

I’d love to have Prime on freeview. Great to see what on through EPG. Would also be great to have Trackside on as well

Improved picture quality will be great too.

Drinnan also had a good point on how Paula Bennett was only doing what Clark did as I noted here with some follow up, Drinnan waas also not that flattering about the MSM performance either http://bit.ly/ah9xw

What I mean by a good contra is that all the main free to air channels are now available on both Freeview and Sky, so consumers do not get fucked over by choosing one over another.

I reckon it’s an utter waste of time. Television should be banned forthright and replaced by compulsory reading! :-)

As a sky subscriber I have to say this is a lose for us, getting those rubbish channels 6 and 7 now means i have 2 more to skip right past when trying to find something good on tv. My batteries were running low and i accidentally landed on one of them the other day when hitting next next next , which was lucky as otherwise I would have missed an edition of Country Calendar from 1972 that I had been hoping to catch that was showing for probably the 5th time this week. Quality programing at its best. .

Why is the Minister announcing this, rather than TVNZ or Prime?

Why do we have a Minister of Broadcasting, when the rest of the media gets along just fine without a Minister to run their affairs?

But consumers actively choosing the freeview platform is akin to them fisting themselves.
