Angela Merkel

The NZ Herald has an informative profile on German Chancellor . A good read.

The German election is on 27 September, and I will probably coverit  a few times.

There is probably going to be an International Young Democrat Union Freedom Forum in Berlin in November 2009 – on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the . Not sure I will be able to make it – flying to Europe is a nightmare and not worth doing unless you are going to stay for a decent period. And November is not exactly summer in . Temperatures normally range from 2°C to 7°C.

On the other hand I regard the collapse of the Berlin Wall as the most important world event in my lifetime, and marking the 20th anniversary in Berlin would be cool.

..and I often wonder if that was a mistake, given that it allowed the commies out of their zoo, and they have now infiltrated and control almost every aspect of our public institutions in the west.

It was already game over by the time the wall collapsed. With the communists essentially already having lost power in Poland by that time the Iron grip over East Germany had already been released and the removal of the wall was merely a symbolic event. If you want to celebrate the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe there are other events to look to.

The interesting thing is that the extreme left radicals from the former West Germany’s from the 70′s and 80′s have been honest and have merged with the unreformed hardline Marxist regime from East Germany.
Here they still pretend they are “environmentalists”

I was there in Berlin when the wall came down in 1989. It was an amazing event. Many of my West German friends were very wary of intergrating all those East Germans into their happy propserous country. However, my most vivid memory of those events was this Berliner girl I met called Marta who showed me the sites and knicked my wallet and camera when she left in the morning :)

You mean the Observer had the article and the Herald bought it… the Herald only has ‘reporters’ who publish information fed to them by whomever wants to get some information into the paper. Actual research and writing of serious articles is a thing of the past there.

She didn’t just married to a quantum chemist, but Merkel herself is a quantum physicist (quantum chemistry), because some of her published papers were in the domain of Quantum statistical mechanics theory, which was a domain pioneered by Einstein and others.

It is unusual for a leader to be a Physicist, because most world leaders today are former lawyers.
