In his desire to send the Greens up I think DPF made a mistake steming from their suggested reduction in the dairy herds. A very sensible idea spoilt by the introduction of abortion/miscarraige which of course sets the feminists off quite justifiably, and other sensitive folk.

The world doesn't need the number of humans it currently has let alone the likely increases of the future. Better would be for the Greens to have suggested limited insemination in herds, which I gather has been normal practice for decades anyway, and then this could also be applied to humans. But I expect it will be a long time coming becuase humans are basically only out for themselves when it comes to the crunch, that is nature for you, and it will need a lemming like solution to force it upon them. It could well be that nature has already set humanity on a lemming like race to extinction.

The problem with sensible ideas like this is that humans are born 'empire builders' and want their group to be the dominent one becuase until recent times we have lived in an expanding world, which it no longer is. Capitalism is based on expanding production, increase GNP, using up earth's finite resources ... then what? I imagine this sounds like 'green talk' though since I almost never read anything they produce I wouldn't know ... but it seems to be common sense to me.

Fantastic; Hilarious!

I was thinking "Logan's Run" as an experiement to achieve the same thing but the age threshold would need to be lifted to 65 i reckon.

itiswhatitis 3:21 pm,

Yeah, I've also heard the 500 million figure being quoted by the 'One Worlders'. I did read somewhere also about the Georgia Guidestones - and their occultic links.

One does have to start taking the Biblical end times account increasingly more serious. Especially in light of the moving towards a One World Government, one world laws, one world spirituality, the destruction of the autonomous nation state, increasing lawlessness/rebellion, increasing homosexuality, breakdown of the nuclear family, etc.

I guess when you throw out the old Deity, the new deities come flooding in. eg humanism, earth worship [Gaia], and all the other false religions.

Beam me up 'Scotty'.

Yeah and they say the proposed 80% population reduction is a mere "conspiracy"
While everyday leaders, top scientists and greenies put forth the ideas of accepting culling the populations to save the planet.
theres even been the Giogia Stones erected to to send a message to the world to;
1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2. Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity.
3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
4. Rule passion - faith - tradition - and all things with tempered reason.
5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
9. Prize truth - beauty - love - seeking harmony with the infinite.
10.Be not a cancer on the earth - Leave room for nature - Leave room for nature.

Meet some environmentalists that terminated their children for the sake of the planet.

Food crisis could force wartime rations and vegetarian diet on Britons.
Even though the nation is 73 per cent self-sufficient in food production, higher than during the 1950s, the food chain is at risk from global influences such as a worldwide increase in population, climate change bringing extreme weather patterns, higher oil prices and more crops being grown for bio-fuel instead of food

DF was not admired by village idiot: "Nice glimpse into the mind of a mysoganist."
Course, others found him witty AND hilarious "Some of you people are sad sacks. The post is tagged under satire. God knows how you would moan about Jonathan Swiftt’s treatise on eating Irish babies." said Brian (who would be Bigger).

The sad fact is, though, that David has been a bit tasteless and for no good reason. Swift was scathing in his attack on those who would exploit the defenceless. David seems not to give a (cow)shit about the state of planet that those of us who have children would like to leave as legacy. He would rather jeer from afar. Fastidious as Swift, no, prissy maybe, but a Yahoo for all that.
For sure Swift would resent the cheap plagiarism, and resent seeing his giant cloak trailed through Grub Street by wee David.

Interesting that many people reading this post hesitated at first, since perhaps the greens may just be that crazy that this is something they could come up with. We know they are concerned about overpopulation, we know they have little concern for a foetus, we know many on their team value animals over humans.
Anyone who claims this is sick needs to look at their own position on abortion. I'm sure some are genuinely sickened, but I am sure a whole lot more of you are having a kneejerk and don't really believe there is anything wrong with selective abortions.

"and then decrys anyone having any"

Incorrect getstaffed. Read carefully: RRM decried rued people who consider their money-making capacity validates their rudeness.

"(except fellow socialists travellers I presume)."

Interesting presumption getstaffed. Please explain. I am gainfully employed in private enterprise and have never drawn any MSD benefit - hardly Kiwiblog's classic "Socialist" strawman??

...

"you have no right to tell them to shut up."

Kiwigreg, why do you think Farrar runs these threads if not to garner feedback? I did not tell him to shut up, only that what was said was a pretty sickening. As per getstaffed comments, please read more carefully. You are arguing a taste and decency problem as though it is a freedom of speech issue, exactly as I said.

Eugenics is gradually being uttered all around the globe as something that should be embraced. Contraception is acceptable to teens and parents alike, while families are urged to work harder, spend more time working and getting into monumental debt while having fewer kids in the process. Parents are being made to feel bad about having children through advertising and movies.

@ RRM "It amazes me how the Kiwiblog right shamelessly misrepresents issues of good taste and decency as freedom of speech issues"

It's a private blog. You actually have to come here and read it, it's not been rammed down your throat. If you are at someone's house and they start ranting about stuff you disagree with you can argue with them, or you can leave, you have no right to tell them to shut up.
