“… the changes announced yesterday [are] fiscally irresponsible and could be expensive to the taxpayer …”
flap flap squawk squawk …
Part A: Multi-choice (circle the correct answer)
The person to whom that comment was attributed is –
A. An honest and principled leader of global standing who strides the public stage as a colossus of political virtue; or
B. Just a lowlife hypocritical and untrustworthy arsehole who supported the legalisation of the theft of taxpayer money plus lots of other really bad stuff.
Part B: Written
Explain, in one word or less for each subpart below, when the person to whom that comment was attributed:
(a) Ever demonstrated any comprehension of the notion of fiscal responsibility.
(b) Ever gave a flying fuck about what might be expensive to taxpayers.
Part C: Yes/No
Answer “Yes” or “Oh good heavens no; not in a million years” to the following statement (extra marks for brevity):
The person to whom that statement was attributed would have the shameless bare-faced audacity to state that the Electoral Finance Act and denial of free speech was a “side issue”.
This looks like a good way of trying to address real issues – the appointment of league great Ruben Wiki as an “ambassador” against domestic violence.
Domestic violence has been the Families Commission’s biggest single focus since it was set up in 2004 to provide “a voice for New Zealand families”. It helped co-ordinate the “It’s not okay” campaign and sponsors White Ribbon Day each November, when men are encouraged to wear white ribbons as a statement against violence towards women.
Mr Pilbrow said naming Mr Wiki as the first of six White Ribbon ambassadors was aimed at actually getting men into anti-violence programmes…
Ruben obviously can’t do it on his own but he could be an inspired choice for a prime target audience.
“Auckland Regional Holdings, a public owner of Ports of Auckland, is stumping up $40 million to $60 million to help the company repay a bank loan of $105.5 million by December.” – ARH is own by the ARC.
“Ports chief financial officer Wayne Thompson said that after the capital restructuring, debt would be reduced from around $550 million to between $300 and $330 million.
“It was prudent given the economic downturn …to strengthen the balance sheet.” ”
Its prudent to reduce debt during an economic downturn – how about when you were rolling in cash you retards.
But no, lets steal cash from ratepayers that could be used to develop infrastructure, an employ NZ’rs during the recession.
Of course Siimon, its all the fault of big government, whatever that may be. It couldn’t possibly be the fault of the bankers, the wankers, the financiers, the ponzi schemers and the wastrels, could it?
It couldn’t possibly be the fault of the CEOs paid multi millions, after all they were paid that because they were so good at their jobs and had to be rewarded, even as their companies collapsed around them.
It couldn’t be the fault of the economists and busiiness leaders who destroyed local communities, and along with them, local markets, by outsourcing, could it?
And it couldn’t be the fault of the market, that failed to correct itself, could it?
“That sort of attitude shows why it’s very hard to change the attitude of violence.”
Personally I find having representatives in parliament, or list candidates who have attitudes like;
“Greenpeace is probably one of the most mainstream environmental groups around. I am a proud activist, one that thinks within resonable limits a bit of trespass, a bit of property damage, a bit of general disruption is fine. Quite fun, too.”
From the blogging equivalent of toilet paper: Best comment in the House
Posted by Clare Curran on September 15th, 2009
I think we’ll start a best comment in the House series. Stand out tonight was Shane Jones (moments ago) who got up to respond to Auckland Central’s Nikki Kaye in the “urgent” debate on the Super City Bill .
He said:
That was National’s contribution to artificial intelligence….
I guess you had to be there
I guess you did Clare. Make the most of it because you won’t be there for long. Nice to see Labour still likes playing the (wo)man, not the substantive issues with pathetic childish comments, and I note that Red Toilet Paper has been banning anyone who disagrees with the dross they produce.
@ Simon In fact bank lending is recovering rapidly. All leading indicators on inflation show very little inflation pressure (in fact still slight risk of deflation). US could be looking at annualised 6% GDP growth in the December quarter. The prospects for the next 18 months are incredibly bullish. After that all bets are off tho as those bills eventually have to be paid.
KiwiGreg – I have a serious question but first let me explain, I don’t understand economics yet my logical brain is screaming at me over the shit going down in the world financial markets. Little alarm bells I didn’t know existed are ringing off the wall.
What is the 6% GDP growth in the US based on? Is it real productivity or just the financial markets buying and selling the same packaged financial intangibles that got them in the shit in the first place? Considering the amount of money that has been thrown in there doesn’t seem surprising the books look good but what are they actually doing?
Other warning signals – Cheng Siwei, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party has explained how Beijing is dismayed by the “credit easing” coming out of the Federal Reserve.
“If they [the Fed] keep printing money to buy bonds,” said Mr. Cheng, “it will lead to inflation, and after a year or two, the dollar will fall hard. Most of our [Chinese] foreign reserves are in US bonds and this is very difficult to change, so we will diversify incremental reserves into euros, yen and other currencies.” Mr. Cheng was referring to over $2 trillion of Chinese foreign reserves, the world’s largest holding.
If/when they start shifting their reserves away from the dollar surely the shit will hit the fan?
The Chinese have been rattling their sabres over US dollar devaluation for some time, and rightly so. I have been saying for a while now that when we look back at this decade we will say “this was when the US started its relative decline” compared with China. Clearly the Chinese are concerned – they hold 2 trillion dollars, most of which is in USD. THe simplest way for the US to “repay” their debt is to devalue the currency in which it needs to be repaid. You can see the Chinese doing 3 things – first they are moving away from investing in US treasuries into other assets (equities, land, commodities, companies) and diversifying away from USD assets; second they are increasing the amount of their growth coming from domestic demand; third they are (slowly) building the RMB up as a tradeable currency in it own right. Watch this space – they have the vision, patience, drive and resources to do some pretty amazing things.
The dems are of course saying : don’t you dare do to our president what we did to yours for 8 years. Don’t dare bring up Clintons sexual indescretions…………oh hell, just do as we say, not as we do.
Rather than get all worked up over the hypocrisy of it all……….I’ll just file it under humour.
If you read anything on the web today, try and make sure you include this article . Big things are happening in the US, and you won’t hear about it from the NZ mainstream media- all complicit in the coverup.
Next target- the media. At long last that despicable group of liars cheats traitors and thugs who have disowned truth and the craft of journalism and instead shaped the political perceptions of the public for the benefit of their socialist masters are facing justice.
Read this you smug collectivist swine- we the people are coming after you next.
Red – and they were very clean. Pics taken after the rally showed no litter on the ground, compared to the mountains of garbage left by the Obamites when they had their inauguration rally.
Redbaiter, I see MacDaddy is going to make appearances on 5 of the big networks but Fox is getting the cold shoulder. How sad never mind, I don’t think Fox will be losing any sleep. Glen Beck must really be getting up their noses, God they are a corrupt pack of bastards. They make our Liarbore party look like a church choir.

Anyone else finding Kirstin Dunne-Powell attaching herself to the Weatherston family going down like a cup of cold vomit? It would appear that in her warped mind she might get some kudos from this, doesn’t she see that it is tacky and extremely poor taste?
Also her case, apart from the fact no one knows exactly what happened, is not on the same planet as this one. I’m appalled.
always guaranteed to focus on the ’small’/inconsequential….
(rightwingers are more ‘tidy’..)
…brilliant..!..
phil(whoar.co.nz)
Well Philu – given that we are inundated with “be tidy, save the planet messages” I find it funny that it is right wingers who seem to actually be tidy and try to save the planet, rather than preachy greenies who wouldn’t know how to grow a vegetable to save themselves.
Some more lovely poll results from my Y9 and Y10 students:
Last week, Rangitoto College cancelled future balls because a Year 12 after-ball with alcohol went ahead, despite students and parents promising it wouldn’t. Was this the right decision?
Yes 3% No 97%
Soldiers posed next to a bomb with message written on it to the Taliban, and the army is now investigating. Did the soldiers do anything wrong?
Yes 9% No 91%
A psychologist recently claimed that using Facebook regularly can improve both your brain power and your memory. Do you think this is true?

In Britain, taxi drivers are protesting the decision to allow a man convicted of manslaughter who has served his sentence to get a taxi license. Should he be able to drive a cab?

Remember, these are merely settling activities at the start of the class as students enter, and thus have no input from me in any way. It really gets them involved in the news (for example, after the Paul Henry poll I did previous, students were coming in on the following classes and telling me about the Australian DJ who got stood down again) and leads to some interesting class discussions as well.
Telstra shareholders have lost $1.5 billion after Rudd announced his ultimatum on broadband.
This isn’t as much as shareholders in the much smaller Telecom NZ lost through Cunliffe and Clark’s diktat forcing Telecom to unbundle its local loop without compensation.
When it comes to shareholders, especially those in telecom companies, property rights don’t count. No wonder people plough their savings into houses and land. It’s not to say such monopolies cannot be reformed. But the Government should either buy them back first, or fully compensate the owners (the shareholders).
Cunliffe, Clark, and now Rudd ought to be in the running for official awards from Hugo Chavez.
I find it totally interesting that someone whom doesnt add to society at all, whom gains no respect as a human being, spends so much time on this blog site….. And is constantly told to F – Off but it doesnt effect his brain at all…… Perhaps the green stuff has completely fucked his brain cells……
As most of us have sampled the green stuff, but most of us grow up, sad to see that some cant move on….
Its like that song “Get a haircut and get a real job”
Being a full time blogger being paid by the vast majority of blog posters would feel lousy to most, not this one poor example of a human being….
Same here, they banned me indefinitely.
I suggested Carter take his warm fuzzy self promoting story to a Chat Room.
Good on ya Carter, just ban everyone who is not gay
This arrogant wanker has decided that his welcome here has truly been outstayed and that I will no longer take part in discussions here.
Friends I have made here I will keep in touch with
Chintonidd I am over in NZ in October November, lets have a beer.
Thanks Kaya, yes it’s a bit like that over there. They’re all very happy campers in their little socialist echo chamber.
Steve, were those the exact words you used? I’m asking because I also got banned not for using foul language or defaming or something, but simply for expressing an opinion that doesn’t accord with the censors over there.
Even humor is banned at the socialist party, unless it contains the nasty gripes that they like to dole out.
phlu “and what gives you the fucken right to think you can tell me i can’t smoke pot..?”
It’s illegal phlu, the law gave us the right. You also can’t commit armed robbery, that too is illegal.
If we get our way you also won’t be able to bludge off us any more.
You’re a perfect Labour supporter, your emotional development ceased at the time you let drugs control your life. Labour supporters’ emotional development ceases at the time they become drones to the socialist party. The ones that take responsibility for their own lives invariably grow out of it.
The photo on the site I linked to is not the photo that leftists are claiming was a fake. The fake photo (probably planted by leftists) was quickly denounced as such by Free Republic and other Conservative sites and did not feature in any major reports on the protest.
As usual, the left try to make a side issue a distraction from the main issue. This is always their strategy.
The real issue is that America has had it up to here with having left wing crap shoved down their throat by elitist academics, communists in the Democrats, and their propaganda agents controlling the mainstream media.
There is a sea change underway, and the key point, as I tried to explain above, is that the focus of the protests is about to shift to those who have done the most damage to the Republic, those who have been at the forefront of the greatest scam the left have ever come up with, and that is the so called “news media”. These treasonist scum, fake journalists in actuality, are at last going to get theirs.
Its been a long time coming, but finally, the truth has dawned on the average American that the left’s major political tool is their domination of the mainstream media, and by putting Democrat or left wing operatives in control of most major American “news” outlets, they have succeeded in shifting the political mood. But you can only fool some of the people some of the time.
Now the pendulum is swinging back, but with an impetus so great these slimy lying leftist propagandists posing as journalists are not going to know what has hit them.
Who can deny that Joe “watch me leap into the air and drop another ball” Rokocoko is Graeme Henry’s love child? He must be to have gotten yet another start in the ABs.
We need a poll like this done for NZ: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090914/ap_on_bi_ge/us_news_image
In this US poll about media credibility, “63 percent of the respondents thought the information they get from the media was often off base”, “…only 26 percent of the respondents said the press is careful to avoid bias”.
phlu, I was wrong to use ‘perfect’ in any sentence relating to you or Labour. More accurate would be for me to say “you would fit the mold of the average Labour supporter”. I fully believe you didn’t vote for them, but only because you slept in.
Conservatives are the true custodians of the environment Brian. For all those self absorbed dropkick pot smoking littering leftist drongos, environmental awareness is just mental masturbation.
“Thanks for the info about the Tea Party protest Red.”
My pleasure. You want to keep up with what’s really happening in the centre of the Western world, Free Republic is a thousand times more informative than any mainstream media outlet.
Just when you think that Paula Bennett is the right lady for the job she back peddles on her statement yesterday when she said “she did not want to see the benefit increased”, she is now saying that she did not want to see the number of people on the benefit increase.
It is clear the Neville fucking Key is indeed going to increase benefits for bludgers, I have had a gutlsful of this pathetic government.
Bring back Klark, at least you knew who the enemy was.
Yep, you may well be right getstaffed, Mowree will not have to pay anything under the ETS and on top of that we will have to pay the bludgers more money to sit on their backsides doing nothing.
It really makes Neville Key’s pre election promises look more and more like blatant lies doesn’t it.

I did not think so, so I posted the same comment again and got an indefinite ban.
The moderators and Carter have a problem, but Red Alert and Liarbour can stick it where the Global Warming Sun don’t shine
Here you go BB. First of many I guess. Whats worse is that I’m sure there was comment from the high up’s in both parties that there was no horse trading to get agreement on the ETS. Now some of you are cleaver than I so you will be able to find those comments from Key and either Turia or Sharples. Decided slippery.
Free home insulation for Maori
New 3:36PM Wednesday Sep 16, 2009
At least 2,000 houses owned by Maori are to be insulated by the taxpayer as a result of the deal between the Maori Party and National over the Emissions Trading Scheme.
Maori Party co leader Pita Sharples says that is just one of the concessions made when his party agreed to give National the numbers to pass the new ETS into law.
Dr Sharples says it is a significant breakthrough for Maori who cannot afford the $3,500 they would need over and above the Government grant. He says 500 houses in Northland will be fitted out, 500 on the East Coast and at least a thousand in other parts of the country.
Dr Sharples accepts a rise in benefits to cushion the blow to households of the ETS is now off the negotiating table. It appears he was confused with the automatic increase, which is adjusted for inflation.

Maori Party links ETS support to benefit boost

* Video Labour attacks Govt on emissions trading scheme
The Maori Party wants to force the Government into increasing benefit payments as part of its deal over the emissions trading scheme.
Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples yesterday revealed hiking benefits to ease price increases caused by the scheme was part of its negotiations with National.
Dr Sharples said they were discussing “an increase in the benefit just over this period to allow people to cope with the new expenses”.
“We’re still negotiating that one but we basically got heard that at least there should be a slight increase in the benefit during that period.”
That benefit rises are even up for discussion shows the heavy price National is prepared to pay to get its scheme through and avoid having to deal with Labour.
Dr Sharples categorised the discussions about raising benefits as one of the “gains” the Maori Party won to flip-flop and support National’s scheme, after initially opposing it and wanting a carbon tax.
The Maori Party is so far only supporting National’s scheme to the select committee stage, meaning it can still extract more for its ongoing support.
The deal will give National 63 votes, a majority, to pass its scheme.
Increasing benefits would come at a cost to the Government’s books and Dr Sharples’ comments caught Social Development Minister Paula Bennett by surprise.
“I don’t want to see benefits going up at all,” she said.
Dr Sharples did not elaborate on how much he wanted benefits to rise or for what time period.
Prices for consumers will increase because oil companies, electricity generators, industry and producers will have to pay for the tradeable rights to emit the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
Climate Change Minister Nick Smith, who is leading negotiations, said through a spokesman that he understood the Maori Party was keen to have further discussions on raising benefits.
Dr Sharples said it decided to support National after being approached by tribal leaders, who have major interests in agriculture, fishing, forestry and farming and will benefit from its more emitter-friendly scheme.
He said another gain was the scheme’s halving of the impact of power and petrol prices in its first 2 years.
Prime Minister John Key initially said he was keen for a grand coalition with Labour on the scheme, as an accord with the two major parties would give it ongoing durability and certainty for consumers and business.
But it did not inform Labour of its deal with the Maori Party, leading Phil Goff to accuse them of “bad faith negotiations” and quitting the talks. There was a resulting to-and-fro between Labour and National over who was at fault.
Mr Goff said it could not support the scheme in its current format that will use taxpayer subsidies to limit power and petrol price rises and ease initial costs for polluting industries.
Mr Goff disputed the Government’s estimate that taxpayers will have to pay $400 million over the next four years, saying the bill could be up to $1.6 billion depending on the international price of carbon.
He said National was loading the cost of pollution on to the average New Zealand family through taxes rather than on the heavy polluter, which also meant there was less incentive for heavy emitters to reduce pollution.
Labour would change the scheme if elected to government, Mr Goff said, meaning it did not have any durability.
Prime Minister John Key said they had walked a delicate path and the alternative to consumers bearing some of the costs would be industries closing down.
Question. I’ve got a bunch of houses full of Maori’s so can I qualify cause I ain’t got the dosh to do all the nice insulation job.
Actually don’t care a lot that they are maybe a bit cold occasionally. Put some more clothes on. Its a lot healthier than living in a hot house with all the fornicating bugs that multiply in the warm.
At what stage do “heartland” National supporters say enough is enough?
1. A increase in benefits for bludgers while the tax cuts were cancelled
2. Free home insulation for Mowree while the rest of us have to pay for it.
3. And now we hear that a one of the tribes is going back to the negotiating table (i.e, our fucking pockets) for more money because they did not know about the ETS when they signed their settlement.
At what stage do National party cheerleaders start to question Neville Key?
WTF, Key saying poor pakeha will get free insulation.
Jesus will politicians never bloody learn the lesson that one never gives a thing to the poor regardless of their race or gender.
Nope that free insulation should go to where it is needed, my place in Central, not to some poor bloody pakeha living in the bloody tropics.
“Dr Sharples accepts a rise in benefits to cushion the blow to households of the ETS is now off the negotiating table. It appears he was confused with the automatic increase, which is adjusted for inflation.”
Whats his phD in again cus — bone carving perhaps?
On another topic which I haven’t seen covered – apologies if it was done already. I just read this article where Banks has threatened huge increases in ratepayers bills to pay for leak buildings.
Pardon fucking me but please explain to me once again why ratepayers are paying for this? Someone, somewhere built these shoddy pieces of shit and it should be irrelevant that their company has gone bankrupt. Every asset they have should be stripped off them and put into the kitty.
Next, the building inspectors and council muppets who approved these buildings should be sued, then fired. How the fuck can you have a $6 billion fuck up and nobody is responsible? Pardon?
John Banks points out that the Government is nervous about committing to this as it threatens our credit rating. (The credit rating agencies are just another example of non productive leeches sucking the lifeblood out of the rest of us.)
It is tax by another name. So if we are downgraded our interest payments will go up. Now here is my most important question. I cannot get anyone to answer this one including the Reserve Bank.
Who do we actually owe the money to? Who decides to put our interest rates up? Someone answer that PLEASE! As far as I can see pretty much every country in the world owes money and a lot of it. Who is it owed to?????? Somebody is fucking loaded and I would like to know who it is before Mr Banks decides to put my rates up yet again.
And a bit more from Aus.
They have a batty scheme as well. Think Key copied it.
Concerns over roof insulation ‘batty’
September 16, 2009
Article from: Australian Associated Press
THE Rudd government has accused the opposition of deliberately undermining its roof insulation program by falsely claiming installers are rorting the scheme.
Last month, Nationals backbencher Paul Neville claimed a business in his Queensland electorate had reported 14 examples of “fraudulent and misleading practices” by unscrupulous operators.
But Environment Minister Peter Garrett told parliament the business in question had written to him explaining Mr Neville had “misrepresented” its view.
Mr Garrett said the member for Hinkler had contacted AllSafe Energy Efficient Products “under the guise of requesting advice” on how to avoid less reputable contractors.
AllSafe general manager David Jordan wrote that the company hadn’t lodged 14 complaints regarding other installers of pink batts.
“To be frank we believe that Mr Neville’s comments in parliament were political point scoring.
“If anything we actually fear that his comments only serve to hamper your intended policy of stimulating the economy and employment.”
Mr Garrett said the incident was “very disappointing” and the company had actually put on an extra 12 staff as a result of Labor’s policy.
“They (the opposition) are undermining the most successful rollout of energy efficiency in our history,” he told parliament.
“They’re undermining the thousands of jobs that go with the rollout of ceiling insulation and they’re now undermining the good reputation of insulation businesses.”
Homeowners can claim up to $1,600 to offset the cost of insulation under a $3.9 billion program unveiled in Labor’s stimulus package earlier this year.
In August, the opposition called for the auditor-general to conduct a full review.
Mr Garrett said the program had seen 289,000 homes receive new insulation to date.
Yeah, well, I just got a quote for a ceiling top up (already have batts) and underfloor insulation under the EECA grant scheme – a lot more than I expected. Total $6000 less $1300 grant. There must be some good margins and/or wage rates in that, and coincidentally just over what is required to get the full grant. Underfloor is nearly double a quote I got two or three years ago (may be different material). No breakdown of material and labour.
So my taxes already pay for other peoples healthcare, children, and slothful lifestyles, and now they pay to insulate houses when I don’t live in one thats insulated myself???
Cerium; good socialist stuff so why are you complaining? You should be in and support them shouldn’t you?
Hell whats a few dollars between socialists eh?Oh thats right we have the socialist wages and union policies to contend with. $25.00 per hour to lay a bat.
Kaya; As you have now noticed it will be rate payers footing the bill for some of this. No idea why because some of us own a bunch of property, we should foot the bill on our own. None of mine leak. Do think help is needed but a lot of these will have been built by those that rent so after stuffing the job with poor work they now get off scott free while owners of property pay. Good socialism from Banks et al.
As I have said many times the Residential Tenancy Act needs changing so landlords can charge their tenants with rates so every body shares the cost of living in their area rather than a few.
Nickb – There is more to it than that. I thought I had commented on this earlier but I can’t find it.
EECA are like all bureaucracies, they regulate the shit out of any scheme they are involved with. They are extremely inefficient and because of the setup the system is open to abuse.
Because (like all bureaucracies) they feel the need for total control, EECA have a list of preferred suppliers/installers. Those on the list know this and many factor the subsidy into the price. The problem is biggest away from the main centres where a local town may only have one approved supplier.
I know someone who got a quote who had an idea what it should have cost. They were shocked at the price so rang a non approved company 100kms away. That company was able to beat the quote by almost 15% and that included 200kms travel!
It should be like the Aussies do it with their subsidised ($8000 dollars man!) solar scheme. You get the specs from the website or local council building. Get the job done at the best price you can. You claim the rebate. An inspector checks the work and signs it off. Cheque arrive in the mail a week later. Now that is for a fairly technical piece of work. We are talking about insulation ffs. Most people could DIY it on a weekend.
As for job creation, it is only temporary. Once the bulk of the jobs are done that’s it, job gone. It’s NZ’s own little stimulus package!!!

For anyone interested here’s a useful vid on population growth and Muslim immigration. Overly dramatised perhaps, but some quite disturbing realities we’re going to need to face up to.
Nickb – re the money stuff we were discussing last night, someone earlier said to google G Edward Griffin. I did and it was interesting stuff. No conclusions yet but worth a look.
You and I both stated we had some issues with “Addendum”. Griffin does a great critique here:
But make sure you read the response at the end of his critique from someone who supports Griffin but is a strong Addendum devotee. Interesting stuff.
After that I would bet you will be looking for more of Griffin’s stuff!
Cheers kaya thanks for that. Yea might have a check for that book at the uni library, wouldnt think itd just be in a city library. Have you seen the first zeitgeist kaya?
The 9/11 stuff was interesting, but wouldnt class myself as a 9/11 denier. And of course the parts about the Fed are good.
Doing some study at the moment so wont read the whole thing just yet. But I was made aware that the makers of Zeitgeist are linked to something called the Venus Project.
You might know more about this than me, but basically sounds like some nutbar group wanting to turn the world into one big hippy commune- i.e some kind of anarchical socialist utopia.
Another topic.. I see that the most popular name for newborns in London is now Mohammed. ”
RUN FOR THE HILLS!! THE SAND NIGGERS ARE COMING!!!
You moron, ever put a thought to why that might be, or are you content to post such junk, knowing every one will nod along with it.
Hint: Many many, almost all, Muslim families call their eldest son Mohammed, Mohammed has been the most popular name for new borns in a very long time, if non Muslims used the name Sam with the frequency that Muslims used Mohammad, then Sam would be the most popular name for new borns.
racer1 – The society that my children and grandchildren will grow up in will be culturally different to the one I’ve grown up in. I think that’s worth more than a passing thought. You clearly think it’s an invitation to offer abuse, which is a pity.
You moron, ever put a thought to why that might be … ohh mearly passing a thought are you? great… You really need to get a grip….
Ok, so here’s a thought or two. IMO European countries have declining historically ‘native’ populations because of millions and millions of individual lifestyle choices. Basically kids are a costly and time-consuming impediment to independence and career progression, ergo they’ve been ‘devalued’. So the value we place on family life has dropped, while and the value placed on independence and financial gain has risen at about the same rate as widespread contraception and abortion have enabled that choice.
The result has been demographers telling sucessive governments that immigration is required in an attempt to sure up the tax base for the superannuation needs of aging western populations. I get the feeling that this strategy may have been based on a simplistic numbers-for-numbers calculation, rather than a broad assessment of the financial and social costs of assimilation of lage numbers of Muslim folks.

I get the feeling that this strategy may have been based on a simplistic numbers-for-numbers calculation, rather than a broad assessment of the financial and social costs of assimilation of lage numbers of Muslim folks.”
That is an awfully long winded way of saying “I hate people who are different to me”
I couldn’t agree more about the comments on the Venus Project. When I got to that part of the movie my jaw dropped, I thought someone had switched the DVD!
It does come across as a hippie nutbar job without a doubt. It is a utopian dream, well meaning but difficult to ever see it happening. I don’t say impossible because that would have been said about many things we take for granted these days. Maybe it could happen in a couple of thousand years, who knows. The problem most of us have is we rarely consider anything outside our own lifetime and that fits within our own points of reference.
One concept from the Venus Project that was thought provoking rather than futuristic science fiction was the idea that Capitalism in the form we use doesn’t make the best use of resources. (planned obsolescence etc.) It is wasteful because we have to keep the consumption cycle going.
I like to keep an open mind on most things, the jury is still out on this one but I must admit, the criticism of the Federal Reserve and fractional reserve banking system seems valid and growing at a rate of knots. As with other controversial shit, I’m looking for the contrary view but it rarely amounts to more than hysterical dismissals, nothing rational.
That is an awfully long winded way of saying “I hate people who are different to me”
No it’s not. If I meant that I would have said it. For the record I don’t hate anybody. I did come pretty close to hating our former PM but managed to step back from that brink.
I have no problem with him, only his wish to have his bigotry enshrined in law
Agreed kaya, know what you mean.
I subscribe more to the Austrian school of economics, so I think that central banks can contribute to inflation themselves, rather than do anything so stop it.
The lack of regulation of the US Fed is quite startling.
you really are a class act racer.
Does it make you sad that you are blowing whatever you say out your arse, knowing that your party is going to be in opposition for 4 terms?
If there was ever a book and movie to be written (boring as it maybe) it is about Scientology, just because some wanker famous actors will try to block it.
Yeah John, how is your marriage now and Tommy how is your third marraige now?
racer1: I have no problem with him, only his wish to have his bigotry enshrined in law
getstaffed: Where did I express that?”
racer1: Clearly, just not explicitly, in the posts above, and many other posts you have made.
getstaffed: If you are going to make pointed claims of wrongdoing then you need to be ready with the evidence
racer1: Its right there
And I say again .. Where?
You comprehension & reasoning skills need some honing racer1. You claim I say things I do not, then you ‘guess’ the exact opposite of things that I have stated. Eg “Though let me guess, you hate each individual Muslim, when I had claimed quite unambiguously that For the record I don’t hate anybody, which I reiterate.
racer1, I feel like a cat playing with a very small mouse… it’s kinda fun, but knowing in the end it’ll make a rather disagreeable meal.
You are in denial, and your posturing won’t change it one bit, your opinions are quite clear, you just have a deluded belief that couching your opinions in the language that you do means you can deny the obvious. None of us here are stupid.

Question 1.
Consider the following behaviour and noises:
… flap flap squawk squawk

Personally I find having representatives in parliament, or list candidates who have attitudes like;
“Greenpeace is probably one of the most mainstream environmental groups around. I am a proud activist, one that thinks within resonable limits a bit of trespass, a bit of property damage, a bit of general disruption is fine. Quite fun, too.”

Best comment in the House

September 16th, 2009 at 9:05 am
September 16th, 2009 at 9:13 am
“Is it real productivity ” Yep

“..This seemed impossibly cruel to me .. but I was accustomed to this kind of behavior by then.
The wealthy lawyer who contributes a pittance to his infirm mother’s living expenses (But never cancels a vacation); ..
.. the billionaire who left his struggling kids nothing but a few sticks of furniture.
It all feels the same; the wealthy customers who assume everyone is trying to take advantage of them, ..
.. the rich girlfriend who stuffed cash in my pockets before we went to dinner so that no one would suspect she was paying the tab.
The guilt, paranoia and mendacity never seem to change.
So I started to wonder – is this nature or nurture?
Do the rich people learn these defensive behaviors, this callous oblivion, from their parents?
Or is it hard-wired into the lizard brain of the human species?
Is it a mental illness, or an atavistic hangover from the cave-man days ..
.. when an extra pelt hidden under a rock could mean the difference between life and death?
I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a little of both..”

Yes 41% No 59%
In Britain, taxi drivers are protesting the decision to allow a man convicted of manslaughter who has served his sentence to get a taxi license. Should he be able to drive a cab?
Yes 51% No 49%
Remember, these are merely settling activities at the start of the class as students enter, and thus have no input from me in any way. It really gets them involved in the news (for example, after the Paul Henry poll I did previous, students were coming in on the following classes and telling me about the Australian DJ who got stood down again) and leads to some interesting class discussions as well.

New topic for a minute if I may…
Telstra shareholders have lost $1.5 billion after Rudd announced his ultimatum on broadband.

HAIL FREEDOM… better late than never.

In this US poll about media credibility, “63 percent of the respondents thought the information they get from the media was often off base”, “…only 26 percent of the respondents said the press is careful to avoid bias”.

It’s a recession right? Government are cutting costs, employers are cutting salaries and so on.
You’d think local authorities/councils would be doing the same.
Apparently not, employee costs have gone up nearly 10% in the last year. Purchases have gone up nearly 9%.
And, who paid for this? Ratepayers it seems. The same ratepayers who are taking pay cuts.
The arrogant councils need sorting out.

September 16th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
At what stage do “heartland” National supporters say enough is enough?
1. A increase in benefits for bludgers while the tax cuts were cancelled
2. Free home insulation for Mowree while the rest of us have to pay for it.
3. And now we hear that a one of the tribes is going back to the negotiating table (i.e, our fucking pockets) for more money because they did not know about the ETS when they signed their settlement.
At what stage do National party cheerleaders start to question Neville Key?

On another topic which I haven’t seen covered – apologies if it was done already. I just read this article where Banks has threatened huge increases in ratepayers bills to pay for leak buildings.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10596823

September 16th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Yeah, well, I just got a quote for a ceiling top up (already have batts) and underfloor insulation under the EECA grant scheme – a lot more than I expected. Total $6000 less $1300 grant. There must be some good margins and/or wage rates in that, and coincidentally just over what is required to get the full grant. Underfloor is nearly double a quote I got two or three years ago (may be different material). No breakdown of material and labour.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
So my taxes already pay for other peoples healthcare, children, and slothful lifestyles, and now they pay to insulate houses when I don’t live in one thats insulated myself???

Disgusting.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Basic supply and demand- if you spike demand prices will rise
September 16th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Tell your MP’s and Heatley.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
September 16th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Sorry? More to it than supply and demand? Or insulating peoples houses based on race?

September 16th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
nickb –
Interesting times!

Where did I express that?
September 16th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Agreed kaya, know what you mean.
I subscribe more to the Austrian school of economics, so I think that central banks can contribute to inflation themselves, rather than do anything so stop it.
The lack of regulation of the US Fed is quite startling.

There is absolutely no way you can be serious in making such a claim.

“getstaffed
If you are going to make pointed claims of wrongdoing then you need to be ready with the evidence. ”
Its right there. Though let me guess, you hate each individual Muslim, but just not Muslims as a group, and you think that makes it ok.

If there was ever a book and movie to be written (boring as it maybe) it is about Scientology, just because some wanker famous actors will try to block it.
Yeah John, how is your marriage now and Tommy how is your third marraige now?
Scientology going this well as expected?

Morning racer1. Let’s recap …
racer1: I have no problem with him, only his wish to have his bigotry enshrined in law
getstaffed: Where did I express that?”
racer1: Clearly, just not explicitly, in the posts above, and many other posts you have made.
getstaffed: If you are going to make pointed claims of wrongdoing then you need to be ready with the evidence
racer1: Its right there
And I say again ..
