TV3 look petty Add this story to Scoopit!.

The Herald reports:

TVNZ was the big winner at the annual ceremony held in Auckland on Saturday night, winning 11 categories to TV3′s one.

The two broadcasters take turns filming and screening the awards ceremony.

This year, it was TVNZ’s turn, but the state broadcaster pulled out, so TV3 stepped in.

However, it did not screen the whole show, instead showing a shortened “highlights” version on Sunday night with many of its rival’s winners edited out.

That prompted the state broadcaster to ask for a copy of the unscreened coverage.

But TV3 has rejected the request, saying the film is its to keep.

Someone at TV3 should reconsider. This just makes them look defensive and petty.

That’ because they ARE petty. So is TVNZ. That’s why I don’t watch any of the pretentious crap they serve up.

  2. getstaffed (7,395) Says:

Agree with Adolf. And the duplicitous back scratching that goes on between broadcasters and media awards sponsors-cum-advertisers makes for farcical viewing.

  3. PaulL (4,409) Says:

If it was TVNZ’s turn to broadcast it and they couldn’t be bothered, then it seems a bit odd that they’d suddenly be asking TV3 for the footage. If it weren’t for that, I’d agree TV3 were being petty. But given it was their turn and they didn’t take it up, I’d say that agreement was broken by TVNZ, not by TV3.

  4. Inventory2 (7,223) Says:

It’s not different to TVNZ’s decision to editorialise the Auckland Med Labs spat by playing the highly prejudicial video supplied by the sore loser.

My sister won one of those awards a few years ago. By the time of the awards show, she’d moved to Australia. Nobody bothered to tell her she was a winner. We only noticed because the channel was broadcasting self-congratulatory advertisements and we happened to notice one had her name on it. She didn’t seem fussed. I doubt if she ever bothered to collect her trophy.

Paul is correct. id tell TVNZ to piss off as well.

  7. MyNameIsJack (2,415) Says:

You don’t get it, do you DPF?

TV3 is a private business, responsible to its shareholders. It ahs no duty to provide material it created for others to use.

Private property rights, and all that. Just waht is so hard for you righties to understand about that?

  8. MT_Tinman (1,666) Says:

    I’m with TV3.

I’d be embarrassed if I produced that pap too.

  9. PaulL (4,409) Says:

MNIJ: still a tool I see. DPF isn’t trying to expropriate their property – the point is there was an agreement. DPF is thinking they should have honoured that agreement, my point above is that TVNZ actually broke the agreement first, so no agreement was in existence.

Your silly simplification, and caricature of right wing thought, just shows your shallowness.

  10. MarkMcLT (41) Says:

PaulL, I think MNIJ’s final remark was purely tongue in cheek. The substance of his comment was perfectly reasonable and actually pretty much in line with your own.

  11. Brian (Shadowfoot) (71) Says:

There was an awards show? Did anyone watch it?

  12. PaulL (4,409) Says:

Maybe Mark. But I see you have only 12 comments so far……whereas we’ve put up with MNIJ for 1166 comments. There is a point where your history means you no longer get the benefit of the doubt.

  13. Stephen Stratford (33) Says:

Why should these awards be televised anyway? No one outside the industry cares.
