Bakshi cleared

The Herald reports:
Police have apparently cleared National MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi of wrongdoing in an alleged immigration scam without interviewing a key accuser who has now returned to India.
The accuser, Darshan Singh Saran, provided a sworn statement that threats and pressure from influential figures in India silenced a key complainant in the case against Mr Bakshi.
But friends yesterday said Darshan Singh Saran had left New Zealand unexpectedly without being interviewed by police.
Counties-Manukau police yesterday indicated a statement would be released saying Mr Bakshi was to be cleared – but nothing was sent out. A spokeswoman said investigations were finished and had been checked out by the legal team.
How very disappointing that Darsham is not prepared to talk to the Police, to back up his allegations.

and so very frustrating for Kanwaljit as he hasn’t had the opportunity to have it fully gone through so that there can be no suspicion of deceit against him in the public eye.
I would think he finds this very unsatisfactory as a person who deals in trust and relationships based on trust.
I do wonder if this have been a deliberate scheme to make him look iffy to hurt his chances later or has the perp gone away only to pop up later with more claims or even to ask for favours or some such?
disappointing all round.

Yes, almost as frustrating as your failure to use capitals.
Labour seems to be having quite bit of trouble picking it’s wog informants. First the not so bashful Mata Hari and now the disappearing Singh.

“Wog” is only ever acceptable when you’re hiding behind a psuedonym and you never have to say it to someone’s face, right?
A racist and a coward. Nice.

Oh, and Police can’t operate inter-jurisdictionally? They seemed to have no problem dragging me out of my bed and across three time zones and into prison to face a pile of trumped-up charges. What utter bullshit.
Unless someone else (usually the media) uncover and make public the facts against an MP from any party accused of wrongdoing to such an extent that no one could see a decision not to prosecute as anything but corrupt (e.g. Field), they will not act.
The reason being that the Police want continual increases in their power, and to build up a sense of reciprocal obligation amongst Parliamentarians for the times when they are found to have acted inappropriately. Can’t go having inquiries into prosecutorial misconduct etc.
It’s akin to a protection racket, and it needs to end. But it won’t.
The answer is a Commissioner for Parliamentary Standards, independent from Parliament, with the ability to protect whistleblowers and witnesses and the obligation to make the results of its investigations entirely public.

An announcement that there is no evidence against a prominent person while at the same time acknowledging that a complainant wasn’t interviewed is a poisoned gift IMHO, rather akin to the King of Siam gifting a white elephant.
You can’t not accept it and can’t get rid of it so it will hang around and will grind you down by its very presence over time.
The nasty little vet from Dunedin will harp on and on and on with snide innuendo about uncleared accusations and will smear the crap around to his hearts content and there is nothing Bakshi can do about it.
So I disagree with Rex’s assertion that this is buying Brownie points or leverage ‘cos it isn’t. At least it isn’t with the Blue Team.

I would hope the NZPolice put a block on this guys name or passport no, so that when he next enters the country he is grabbed by the border people, to front up to the allegations.
if they are true we need to know and if they aren’t that needs to come out after all this Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi is an MP in our government.

This is a bone not buried deeply enough. It will be dug up, sooner or later, when the pooches get hungry enough to have a thorough hunt.

the reporting is appalling .. reading the reports suggest he is as guilty as the day is long and the accusers were threatened and scared off .. if this is true then jail him, if false, the go for the accusers and mallards dancing partner should be 1st on the list.

which I what I was getting at in my first post, it’s not satisfactory by any means as it leaves it all open.
The NZPolice should have told this guy that he shouldn’t go anywhere before answering to his allegations.
but that’s all hindsight and they may well have done so.
It’s a poor show.
