Lake Taupo

Am in Taupo for four days to enjoy a relaxing long weekend, and catch up with some old friends who live up here.
This is a photo just taken of Lake Taupo from the place I am staying at. Looking to be a great day.

Just wait till the weather goes round to the South (as it will). I hope you packed your woollies. Have a good weekend anyway.

Did you drive up and if so have you noticed the Taupo bypass road being built? Starts at the airport south and the Rotorua turn off north. Wondering what effect this will have on Taupo once it’s built and what the locals think of it? Never noticed much press about it.
Looks like a great day on the mountain too!
[DPF: Actually drove down from Hamilton]

^^^^ The Locals are supportive of the bypass, Taupo is a big enough draw card to attract traffic on its own, and I imagine many people will continue to drive through if they are planning to stop for lunch etc,
The big bonus comes getting the Heavy traffic out off the waterfront, and returning it to being a local road, I think it will lead to much more use of the lakeside areas + many more happy motel owners

Thanks anonymouse, I figured it could have gone two ways. The lakeside always seemed like a squandered resource with so many vehicles just trying to pass through it.

You in Taupo with Trev? He wasn’t at any of the 350 events in Wellington. The only Labour person who turned up was Charles Chauvel. And they say climate change is important!!

I’d easily live in Taupo. Fabulous place. It peaks on the first Saturday in March.
